#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

Did I hear him correctly?  (paraphrase) this opens the door for every arbitration ruling in America to go to court?

He REALLY doesnt get that whole "inherently, an arbitrator needs to be impartial, whether it's specified or not" part........

Well, he's technically right.  They can go to court.  They'll just get tossed out at the first opportunity.

I see some parallels in Wells's "generally aware" nonsense and Goodell's "just like steroids" nonsense -- in both cases, it was all they had.

Wells was tasked with finding *something* and that's the best he could do. Goodell was backed into a corner to defend 4 games, and that just happened to match first-time steroids, so he went with it.

In neither case, did they stop and say, "If that's all I got do I really have anything?"

A lot of folks on this thread think that Paul, Weiss absolutely had all the McNally texts in hand and were setting a perjury trap of some kind by not showing them to him.

Doesn't this all feel like Reisner was the strategist for PW all along?   That's kind of where I've landed...there's a feel of an out-of-control investigator here, and that is far more Reisner's track record than Wells'

I hope all understand how strong the temptation to rename this thread "Brady on Vacation" earlier was.

ESPN has like 20 NFL Front Office "insiders." They are all backtracking and hemming and hawing like crazy today. They have no idea what to say and are afraid to take a stand.

Loving this play-by-play of the ESPN crybabies.  Is anything similar going on at the NFL Network, or are they just sticking with their regular programming?

Skip Bayless, of all people, with a very cool speech about why his respect for Brady has increased from an already very high level.

I'd like to hear Tom Brady's dad interviewed today (haven't heard anything that he will).

I do feel for the simpleton portion of other fanbases. It must be so frustrating to see Brady get away with blatantly being accused of cheating.

Sucks when your entire network has been eating the spoon fed drivel for literally months and now a court has literally declared they are in the tank idiots.

Yup. Of the "insiders" only Shefter came out of this relatively unscathed. And all the ex-player/coach analysts look or sound like they are on the edge of tears.

Something told me to go to BBTL right away today before my usual progression of Red Sox Game Threads ---> Red Sox Forum ---> BBTL even though I was expecting the decision to drag out to Friday.

Yup, clarified, albeit just exactly as they could have done if DG had never even happened.

To flesh out what he said:  Cossack was implying that this would give hope to ALL arb rulings being overturned, as if this was an ordinary, run of the mill arb decision, and that the entire arb process is absolutely meaningless at this point.

Every single person on camera at ESPN is either frowning or looking super gravitas. It's delicious, and a stark contrast to the giddiness with which they reported the initial cheater-cheater Mort tweet stuff.... BTW, where is Mort today?

Mort is doublechecking with his sources to make sure that the story is correct.

I love the subtle references to "Commissioner" without saying "Goodell". Just subtly opening the door that it might be someone else.

I can't get the Hulk Hogan "Real American" song out of my head. Been singing it the last hour. My kids think I'm insane.

You know that you have been hanging around these DFG threads too long when you get hard reading that decision.  Thanks to all of the legal minds here for the education.

Just spoke to Tom Brady Sr. Said he couldn't be happier. Was really too choked up to speak.

Florio's PFT radio show is on right now:

Thursday’s PFT Live. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports and Peter King of MMQB.com will join Mike Florio to discuss the ruling, whether the NFL will appeal and more fallout from a major victory for Brady and the NFLPA on Thursday.
We’ll also be talking to two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner during the show and Floriowill also be visiting with PFT Commenter, so we’ll get several opinions about the long-awaited decision.
As always, we also want to hear what PFT Planet thinks. Email questions at any time or get in touch on Twitter at @ProFootballTalk to let us know what’s on your mind.
It all gets started at noon ET and you can listen to all three hours live via the various NBC Sports Radio affiliates, through the links at PFT, or with the NBC Sports Radio app. You can also watch a simulcast of the first hour by clicking right here.

Merge all the DeflateGate threads up and move it to the archive? Got to witness another clutch goal line stand.

Berman just completely rejects the idea that Goodell's later "Brady ordered it all" even matters.  It's all about "generally aware."

As he should, and as others here predicted.  You can't just introduce new arguments and facts in an appeal and expect it to fly.
