#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

I think going out alone for the coin-toss makes sense.  If he's not otherwise planning to play why risk anything?

Shotgun snap to RB draw, don't see much risk in that.  About as much risk in walking out to the coin toss by himself.
Extra tasty that they are playing the Mara's tonight.  Wonder if we will get any shots of the visiting owners booth.

Kessler:  Felt as if Kraft was really put into a corner and afraid of turning it into an "Al Davis" situation - and had no real options to fall back on with regards to the picks and the fine.

The folks who were advising Brady to accept some form of punishment and 'get it over with' are like the schlubs on 'Deal or No Deal' who would panic after having a few cases going against them and accept a $30,000 offer, only to watch the hot babe open up their case and see '$500,000' or '$750,000'.
 I resemble that remark.

Some gold on Reddit:

Goodell: You're suspended. I'm in charge here.
Brady, placing an open hand on Goodell's shoulder: Do you feel in charge?
Goodell, sweating: I've paid you a small fortune.
Brady: And this gives you... power over me?

Com. Goodell: Who paid you to deflate the ball?
[No answer, the comissioner fires his gun away from the Jastremski’s head]
Com. Goodell: He didn’t fly so good!
[pulls the ball boy back into the plane]
Com. Goodell: Who wants to try next?
[grabs Julian Edelman]
Com. Goodell: Tell me about Brady! Why does he wear the mask? A lot of loyalty, for a free agent!
Helmeted figure: Or perhaps he’s wondering why someone would suspend a man for four games before throwing him out of a plane?
Com. Goodell: At least you can talk. Who are you?
Helmeted figure: It doesn’t matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
[the Comissioner removes the helmet, revealing Tom Brady]
Tom Brady: No one cared who I was until I put on the rings.
Com. Goodell: If I pull those off, would you die?
Tom Brady: It would be extremely painful.
Com. Goodell: You’re a big guy!
Tom Brady: For you.
Com. Goodell: Was getting caught part of your plan?
Tom Brady: Of course… D'Qwell Jackson refused our offer in favor of yours, we had to find out what he told you.
D'Qwell: Nothing! I said nothing!
Com. Goodell: Well, congratulations! You got yourself caught! Now what’s the next step in your master plan?
Tom Brady: Winning the superbowl… with no shurvivorsh!

Would be a lot funnier if the Pats box said "Those who are right"
Can someone fix that so I can send it to about 100 ppl?

I get guys like Doyel, Cowherd, Brunell, and the rest whose ONLY role is to give opinions and hottakes.  But Munson is supposed to be a Legal ANALYST.  He's more useless than a law clerk on day 1.

Kudos to the SOSH lawyers who got this right--that despite all the deference to arbitrators, Roger had crossed over into tyranny.

Considering that Doty cited the same language of "own brand of industrial justice" from another case, I would think this really empowers the NFLPA going forward. Kessler has Roger's number, played things beautifully, and I would think at least some owners might recognize Roger is over his head, as someone mentioned.

He isn't and their best pass rusher is out, not that he would lay a hand on Brady either way.
I know it was just a joke about Bradford getting smashed with a draw out of a shotgun snap.

NFL appeal filed.  Can't find the doc yet.
At this stage it would only be a notice of appeal, not the actual appellate briefs, unless they are seeking a stay.

All true except, to quote Shefter, his job is not in jeopardy. The owners see #DFG as just an annoyance, not a tipping point like Ray Rice could have been.

Fuck you, Robert. Notice he blames it all on the lawyers?

Hopefully he's biding his time until Mama Corleone dies. Goodall is almost certain to screw something up again soon; who knows what will happen if Hardy appeals. A Kraft will own the team long enough to be needed by Goodell. The knife will always be there for twisting at the opportune time. The only downside right now is Kraft won't be licking his wounds during the next CBA, so he'll be less inclined to side with the PA on somethings (not that he would be too inclined to do so anyways).

Once again, the comments section of Lester's POS opinions are pure comedy gold.

Munson actually writes this line:.

Goodell, in contrast to his bungling of the Rice, Peterson and Bountygate investigations, led a process that produced a solid investigation.

The report doesn't criticize the Brady side at all.  Can we make anything of that?   Or is a one-sided lambasting typical in something like this?

So serious question-

What am I supposed to do now? I mean, I haven't worked in months because I've done nothing but read and reload the two threads.

I'm thoroughly confused...

You can do what I'm doing, start on my legal brief suing the NFL for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

I'm sure this was already the case, but after this result I can't imagine the lengths the NFL will go to keep the results of this season's ball-testing under wraps.
geoduck no quahog said:
Don't know about that, but it's curious that the NFL will pick "random" games to test the footballs at halftime and end of game.
I'm guessing many local reporters will do this on their own -- certainly it'll happen in Boston and when the Pats are on the road. I'm not sure how they'll get the locker room temps right (maybe just do it in the press box) but isn't this sort of tailor-made for local news teams that need something to talk about?
nighthob said:
The rational response to this new knowledge would be to say "You know what, this has obviously been going from the start, and it doesn't seem to have made a difference, so screw it" Alas the NFL is presently run by fucking idiots so they're doubling down on the stupidty.
This would be rational. But, and I think it's been lost in all this, I believe Walt Anderson reads the rule book and did HIS job before the AFCCG. I believe he measured the PSI in the footballs (as required). I'll bet, even, that every ref did this before games. Whether it matters, the rules call for it, so they did it. I think that's noteworthy.

Nope. We're on to normalcy.
Of course we are. The fans will have a ball, but the coach -- and therefore the team -- are going to do what he thinks is necessary to win another Super Bowl.

Here is my concern.
Tom plays this season.
The league appeals and eventually wins.
Maybe even after we win another Superbowl.

The league makes the Patriots forfeit the games Tom has played in.

If there is a chance this could happen I wouldn't set foot on the field unless the league agrees to not make them forfeit any games.

Which games do they decide to forfeit? 4 random games? All 16 plus playoffs and Super Bowl? The answer is no.

And that decision would be struck down by the courts because the NFL has no authority to do such a thing.

You can't punish someone for pursuing valid legal remedies.  Even if it were in the CBA/league charter/whatever, illegal clauses in contracts are invalid, plus it would be contrary to public policy.

It's nice that the NFL went after Brady for not being forthcoming with requested documentation  and the Patriots for withholding witnesses and they were beaten in court (in part) because they were not forthcoming with requested documentation and withheld a witness.  Anything Brady/Pats supposedly did the NFL actually did, even worse.

A big win for the NFLPA to be sure. But maybe the guy who gave away player rights regarding discipline in the last negotiations, should just shut the fuck up and take a measured approach to his end zone dance. What's the benefit of antagonizing now, if the goal is eventually to collectively arrive a more fair and reasonable process.(Apologies for not be able to imbed quotes from the article. Having Mobil device issues).

Something like that happened to Pete Carroll, but that was the NCAA

This is an irony worth repeating.
