Did I just burn my SSD?

A Lost Time
I think I did, but I want to confirm there's nothing else I can do and I haven't done more damage.

So, I was putting together the last pieces of a computer I am building and I try connecting a dvd drive and an ssd. I turn the computer on but as I am checking the Bios, I realize i didn't connect the power cable to neither the dvd drive nor the SSD.

I then stupidly try to do so without turning the machine off.

After I did this, computer wouldn't turn on.

I unplug the machine for 5 minutes, I unplug the drives in question and machine actually does turn on again.

I change the power cables and try connecting the DVD Drive. Computer turns on.

I try connecting the SSD, computer doesn't turn on.

I then take the offending SSD and try connecting to another computer, but that computer won't turn on either.

Does this all mean that I burnt my SSD? Can you really do that? If yes, how come the computers won't turn on?

Most importantly, is there a way to make sure I didn't damage the motherboard or the Power Supply?

Thanks

Sounds like the power input to the SSD is, indeed, shorted out. Assuming the build is of new components, Newegg, for example, allows returns to them within 30 days of purchase. Simply call or find the return label that shipped with the drive and return the SSD as defective. It shouldn't have happened, you can't be certain your attempting to connect killed it, it might have been shorted already, in theory connecting shouldn't have killed it, but because all the connectors don't make connection perfectly simultaneously, it's never a great idea to do what you did.

There is very little likelihood you damaged the mb or ps, especially since they then powered on once you gave up on connecting the SSD.

Thank you. Yes, it was very dumb what i did. The ssd was one i had for a long time, no warranty on it, unless perhaps intel honors it? Good thing i didnt destroy the mb bcause that would have been a major hassle.
