How's Kemp's arm? Or put Puig in Right, he has a cannon. Because a Kemp/Ethier platoon makes the most sense

OPS vs L/R
Ethier  .572/782
Kemp .773/615
Carl  .891/808

Kemp and Ethier both have OBP under .300 on their bad side

Crawford looks like the one who should stay in, as long as he's injury free.

Kemp has traditionally hit righties worse than against lefties, and this year the numbers against RHP are particularly down, but he's still a pretty good to great hitter against them when healthy. Even though Ethier has traditionally crushed RHP, I can't see a healthy Kemp getting the smaller portion of a platoon.

Matt Kemp's OPS against RHP:
2013: .615
2012: .818
2011: .939
2010: .743
2009: .782
2008: .725
2007: .835
2006: .808

I appologise if you weren't quoting olney, who tweeted almost the exact same (nearly word for word) post shortly before your post. I assumed
We know what assumption is.

Puig looks like he's trying to hit the ball to Oakland with the swings he's taking tonight
He seems to start his swing relatively normally, then just crazy accelerates the bat the rest of the way, pulling his whole body with it. Long term, I don't know, I'll take a swing like Posey's.

California. Duh.
Arizona fans were mad at him from the last series, when he escalated the brawl that happened when Kennedy threw at Greinke.  To be fair to Puig, this was after Kennedy had already hit him in the face earlier.  There was also a story that Luis Gonzalez felt disrespected by Puig for not showing him proper respect when they met before one of the games.  Apparently Puig had no idea who he was until McGwire told him, which isn't that surprising considering he's from Cuba.

He needs to dial it back a bit, which he will learn in time.  I'm sure the veterans on other teams are sick of hearing about him and not cutting him much slack, though.

Sounds like a bunch of whining to me. You always hear this doesn't respect the game, doesn't know his place non-sense when someone upsets the order a bit and makes people uncomfortable, whether it's being too aggressive on the bases, or throwing inside too much or whatever it is that makes veterans have to perform.
And the Gonzalez thing is utter nonsense. It's such hyphenated American hubris to think that people in the old country are paying attention to your every move and consider you one of their own. Gonzalez is not a freaking Cuban. He's a Tampan. He went to Jefferson High and was chasing pretty southern belles around at the same age that Puig was getting disciplined by Communist authorities for multiple defection attempts. Screw him for giving Puig a hard time.

Luis Gonzalez goes on the radio to rip a kid who's fresh off the boat from Cuba because he got ignored?  Holy fuck, it gets tougher and tougher to follow pro sports by the day.  Cry babies like Gonzalez and Miguel Montero can get bent.  Go Puig!

He also got into a heated argument with Juan Uribe for not addressing the media, and his interpreter was reprimanded by the team for attempting to get a woman's phone number for Puig.

People that unconditionally love this guy, have you seen him in any games? He makes their other hot dog, Hanley Ramirez, look like Adrian Gonzalez.

I have watched and adore watching him play. His "fuck it" way of playing the game is actually quite refreshing.

Regarding your second point, so what? They make the Dodgers pretty damn fun to watch.

I've seen the guy do a bat flip on a single, and stand at the plate admiring a drive off the wall and barely make it to second when he should have had a triple. That's 10 year Manny Ramirez type stuff. A rookie should be running everything out and I've never seen a bat flip on a single. He makes every fly ball catch an event by catching the ball near his left ear and sort of behind his head. WTF is that? He's running through stop signs from his 3B coach. Now he's got an injured hip, maybe caused by killing himself on the bases trying to make up for his styling. He obviously has a ton of talent but I've ever seen a rookie behave like this. Just play the game the way it should be played.

Does he need to get off your lawn, too?

So what if he makes an ass of himself? It's not really your problem. And don't give me that Crash Davis "you're not respecting the game" crap, either. He's as entitled to play the game in any way he sees fit as anyone else. If his manager didn't want him doing what he's doing, he'd staple his ass to the bench. But you know what? He's a stud and he knows it, as does Don Mattingly. So he gets to play and strut/style all he wants as long as he's producing. And while the "play the game the right way" crowd is pissing and moaning about him, the rest of us will enjoy the pleasure of watching the kid hammer the baseball around the yard, run the bases like a bull on crack and uncork ungodly throws from right field.

Bravo.

If he were on the Sox, 90% of the posters here would be trying to get him their phone number.

Does Luis Gonzalez realize that when he had his moment of glory, Puig was 10 years old and living in Cuba and probably wasn't watching the World Series?

Yes, he does need to dial it back a bit, but not because he's "hot dogging".  He gets thrown out on the bases a lot because he thinks he can outrun every throw, he will learn that he can't at this level.  Even on the play that ESPN showed 5,000 times last week where he scored from 2nd on a groundout, he would have been out by 10 feet if the catcher caught the ball.

Did I see that he jogged twice as slow as Cano on a ground out yesterday?

Great talent but there has to be some effort at the basics. I am no stickler on this but if I saw what I thought I saw, it was pathetic

I saw that clip on ESPN. He apparently injured, or re-injured his hip. Rockies at Dodgers today on Fox, might watch some of that.

I agree with all of that, but hope that you guys are just as tolerant of pitchers and catchers showing emotion, like Joba (when he was able to get people out, long ago) or Valverde (heh, same).

For me it's all a breath of fresh air, no matter who is doing it. I hate guys not running out every ball in play as hard as they can, but that seems to be the rule rather than the exception these days.

He aggravated his hip on that grounder and was pulled from the game due to the injury immediately. Sheesh. In related news, what about all these lazy pitchers who've been making people carry them off the field after they get hit in the head with line drives lately?

So Freeman got voted as the final vote AS and is now out because of a Thumb issue, however; Puig isn't taking his spot, Brian McCann is. That's strikes me as strange

Was at that game last night. That throw wasn't the only ridiculous play Puig made. He almost nailed another guy at third with a similar type of throw. The thing that blows my mind with his arm is that he releases the ball like a short stop. He doesn't bring it all the way behind him and then forward like most outfielders. He gets his arm up and gets rid of it quickly and it is still a cannon. He also made a ridiculous play while going full speed into the wall along the right field foul line. Caught the ball as he was slamming into the wall. Turned over in mid-air from the force of it. Got up like it was nothing. The man, alone, is worth the price of admission. Can't wait to go see him again tomorrow (also doesn't hurt that Kershaw is throwing against Zimmerman).

All these players bitching about him need to shut the hell up. I think he's the Cuban version of Harper. He plays the game hard all the time and is having success. Older players are jealous of the success, notoriety and his contract. I do think it's to his benefit that he doesn't speak English particularly well so we only judge him by his performance on the field. Harper doesn't have that and thus opens his mouth and says some stupid shit.

Puig said he had a teammate in Cuba who hurt himself jumping into a pile after a walk-off, so he decided to go with the slide.

If there had been a big superman S on his shiny blue undershirt when they ripped his jersey off in the celebration, then the picture would have been complete

Knowing him, I'm surprised he didn't. But I'll be even more surprised if he doesn't start wearing one in the very near future, which we'll get to see the next time he walks the Dodgers off.

Holy shit, is he fun to watch.
