If Hamilton was adamant on making 8 million per year on a long term deal maybe the Bruins just didn't want to pay that for a player that young and not fully proven. Now i fucking hate the deal but we have no idea what Hamilton and his agent wanted in terms of a deal or if he was willing to sign a bridge deal until a bigger contract.
This doesn't matter.  They should have told him to get an offer sheet, not to mention the fact that there is seemingly no way they couldn't have done better. I think they ruled out any EC teams and wanted him out of conference, thereby sacrificing a potentially much better return.  They fucked up.  There is no way any information can come out that can redeem this clusterfuck.

Then let him go sign an offer sheet for $8 million and take the mountain of picks that come with it. The Bruins had all the leverage here.

We've secretly replaced the water at the Bruins draft table with vodka. Let's see if anyone notices!

Agreed they get 2 1sts alone if he just signs that offer sheet. Much better than a first and 2 seconds. Just awful

To be fair, this isn't the NBA draft that has a total of 2-3 difference makers. Talent can come in the later picks/rounds of the NHL draft. The problem is the timeline it takes to get to the NHL.

If the Bruins move Lucic for picks and then somehow get into the top 2 of this draft, my opinion MIGHT change, but that's about the only thing they could do right now that would make any of this feel better. if they trade Lucic for more picks and get the #3 pick, it's going to be painful.

You're right, of course, but if you were Edmonton or Buffalo, would you make that trade?

I don't understand how you get to the point of having talked yourself into the fact that you have to trade Hamilton. I understand that once you've gotten to that point it's hard to back down because of some psychological bullshit, but what kind of room is this that it was ever allowed to get to that point? How is the first reaction not "wait, this is fucking stupid"?

So in less than a year, Neely and the boys managed to turn two top-pair worthy d-men, one of whom has barely even hit physical maturity, into 4 2nd rders and midrange 1st. Aren't those the type of player they're hoping to get with those picks?

I can't see how they make this deal then say they're still all in. The d-corp was on its last legs BEFORE they traded its last great hope. Even if they swing this into Hannafin, they're not winning shit.

I feel like Neely and Sweeney are like old men sitting on the porch "you think that kid is worth anything?" "NO WAY" "fucking kids these days, they ain't worth shit, let's get some vets in here."

Because it's (mostly) the same guys that somehow landed on trading Johnny Boychuk over cutting any of the numerous piles of shit that had accumulated at the bottom of the roster to squeeze out of their cap situation.

Sounds a lot like the reaction to Seguin moving to Dallas.  This is pathetic.
At least in that case, the Bruins could claim they targeted Eriksson as a player they wanted and only Dallas had him.

Only getting picks back, they can't make that kind of claim here.

And they'll bring back McQuaid because GRIT! HARD TO PLAY AGAINST!
And teams will continue to skate circles around them while they go d to d to d to turnover.

Everyone that tried and almost successfully talked me into Sweeney as GM, I hate you. I hate all of your stupid faces. I'm glad I'm not going to the RMPS golf bash, I would shit in all of your golf bags.

Larry Bird was smart to find another team to run. Allow the legend to live on forever. A couple more years of this and Cam will have turned his playing career into a tiny footnote.

This was all set up by Chiarelli's failures though. Signing Chris Kelly's of the world and overpaying his own players.

Well, how the fuck could we blame that on Chiarelli?
