I'd be surprised if the Lakers werwnt on the phone as we speak
I was just about to post the same thing. With the picks and young players they have, this is probably already in the works.

Russell, Randle, Lou Williams and a future 1st for Westbrook.

I hope they beat everyone by 50 and no one outside of the Bay Area watches. I'm biased but Durant on the C's would've been great for the NBA with 4 great teams. Now the season is over on July 4.

From Trump to Durant, 2016 is shaping up as the year when everyone is making decisions I don't like!

Basketball-wise, what's the plan against GSW now? It has to be bullyball doesn't it? Physical on the perimeter and pound the ball down low on offense.

Gasol to Spurs positions them reasonably well to play this way, though they need to add another perimiter defender

It wouldn't have been the same decision. With GS, he's joining the best team in the NBA, with the 2-time reigning MVP, that should have come off its second straight NBA championship. He is not the guy to put them over the top. He'll obviously make them great, but if Draymond doesn't get suspended, they are gunning for their third straight title this coming year anyway.

Coming to Boston would have been completely different. Putting a middle-of-the-pack Eastern Conference team in the mix as title contender, restoring glory to one of the iconic franchises. Totally different, and it's not simply because we're fans of the Celtics.
Its not just about the Cs.

Clips are perennial losers.

OKC raised Durant.

Miami/Boston present a chance to be top dog on a championship team.

Spurs offered a chance to extend a dynasty as the best player.

GSW offered the path of least resistance as a second fiddle. And it makes him a hypocrite to boot.

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he comes off more like Bosh then Lebron. I wanted to see him step into the light, not cower from it.

Kick them in the balls?

Honestly it's the same as now. Beat the crap out of them off the ball. Get in their space, make it difficult for them wait for Curry to fold.

Bummer indeed. I was starting to get my hopes up, but I never really believed he was a Boston-type franchise player (not enough a-hole in him).

Congrats KD35. By all accounts, you are a great guy and you earned the right to play wherever you want. Enjoy the bay.

The Celtics got some good buzz from their pursuit of Durant, whose feet will probably now crumble like Walton, Cowens and McHale.

Yup. OKC's franchise just got gutted. Too bad although I bet people in Seattle are happy.
I dunno about Seattle, but I just got a delightful shudder of Schadenfreude.

Let's go get Westbrook now.
the NEts pick plus AB for Westbrook? OKC clearly has to trade him now
No reason the C's can't get in on that. They should be in on that.
Yes -- as consolation prizes go, Westbrook ranks way up there, and the Celtics have the assets to make a strong bid.

He can't make the $60Million/year he probably deserves in FA so he went where he'll have the most fun playing basketball. Can't blame him for that.

Why would Presti deal Westbrook now, rather than at trade deadline after seeing how the team competes? It's going to be a tough sell to the fans if they punt the season in July.

So Revis comes to the Patriots and everyone respects his need to win a ring. Durant ring-chases as well but everyone is now hating on his character now? Weak.

Can't wait to see that team in action. They're going to hopefully go down as the best team in history.

Just want to add that even with one of Butler, Cousins, or Westbrook we aren't beating the Cavs let alone the Warriors. I can't imagine trading the Nets picks at this point.

Speechless. How could he do that? Legacy forever ruined. All time great player but should be an asterisk if they win a few titles
Should Bill Russell also have an asterisk next to his name since he played on stacked teams?

I think this is bad for the league, and bad for the Celtics, and bad for every other team than the Warriors. But it's a bit silly to knock Durant himself for doing the same thing Lebron did in Miami.

If we are going to criticize anyone, it should be the NBA for its stupid fracking max contracts. They inevitably lead to super teams.

What a gut punch for OKC fans... This would be like if Pedro decided after 2003 season to sign with MFY's... His first trip back to OKC next year should be interesting.

Barnes just became a Maverick.

How do the C's assets stack up against LAL in a potential Westbrook deal? And could Westbrook and Thomas play together?

If Revis came to the Pats after their 16-0 season, I'm sure, nationally, people would have complained.

Super disappointed but not surprised. I really thought Durant was the type of guy that wanted to win titles with his own team.

Now he has a chance to win at least two titles (2 year deal) as part of a super team. It really seems like the cowardly choice (can't beat them join them).

I actually live in San Francisco now (still a Celts fan - will never covert) so it is good for the city, but I am going to really enjoy rooting against the Dubs in quiet. GSW became the Yankees, Broncos, Lakers, and every other team that just gets whatever it wants.

Durant's stats will all go down, thought the analytics may go up. There just aren't enough basketballs on that team. I am glad he chose winning over $, but he really should have picked any team other than GSW. If (when) he gets his title, it won't mean as much as if he did it with his team.

I am happy when Men's basketball wins gold in the Olympics, but I am not surprised. The Warriors are now an NBA dream team.

Revis didn't leave the primary on-court, conference-rival for WC title aspirations to come here. That's a huge difference.

I don't want Westbrook. He is a great player, but he dominates offenses to an unhealthy degree and I don't think he fits our players or our system.

That's what she said.
Those Nets picks are more valuable than any in prime player now.

KD in GS changes the landscape of the NBA.

Those two picks can be Franchise players under control for 9 years. You don't trade those for anything now.

Because one (non-QB) player is as important in the NFL as in the NBA?

Revis went from a franchise that had 1% chance of winning to one that had anywhere from 10-25%. Durant is going from a franchise that had like I dunno 5%-10% to one where he ll have 80%+ of winning.

Sorry, but is the argument here that GS is so good now that teams shouldn't aim to be contenders?

KD's a 7 footer who has had foot surgery. Curry has a long history of ankle issues. The landscape of this league shifts quickly and often, as dictated by this morning.

Lakers have more desirable young players but if it matters, the C's have much more draft capital. LA can't trade a 1st rounder until 2021.

Of course I do worry about trading a fortune for Westbrook only to have him bolt next year anyway.

Celtics can beat anyone in a deal if they want.

Give them Smart and the Brroklyn picks. Maybe another player or 2

Why are the Lakers trading young talent to win 30 games and risk losing Westbrook to free agency next season?
Unless you think C's w Westbrook are legit contenders next year (they aren't), you could say same thing about using Nets picks to get him...

The Bill Russell example doesn't hold water at all. The league had way less teams and those teams were built by Red through the draft and trades, not some FA picking the Celts to win.

If Wilt would have left the Sixers for the Celts to team up with Russell, your example would work.

Really disappointed, and not just because he didn't come here. GS was his best choice to win a title, but when you join a 70+ win team, you're not going to be seen as anything but a mercenary. He's going to get skewered and rightfully so.

Interesting juxtaposition.
