I have no respect for a team that claims to be named after an aspect of sunlight yet plays in a dome.

With Wacha feeling poorly, mlb.com is now saying Austin Davis is starting today. Against TBD for Tampa. So, double bullpen game, I guess.

We are so fucked.

The key part of the season not starting out too promising, is it? You hope that our dismal record against our fellow AL East teams would be evening back out, getting back to the mean, but I wouldn't necessarily place money on it. Not with today's game, at least. But you never know.

While I am currently on a streak of one, and if we are going by your average drinking game standards I don't get to establish rules until at least three wins, I still decree by executive order there will be no mention of the movie Independence Day in this gamethread. Riffs on Rocky IV are fine, as is Top Gun, The Right Stuff, Red Dawn, all those are acceptable. Or maybe something like Yankee Doodle Dandy if you want to do a deep cut. There's plenty of vaguely and specifically patriotic movies you can reference in here today. But leave that Michael Bay insult to intelligence and decency from your fingers. It's revolting enough that the zeitgeist feels like giving it 'classic' status.

They’re named after a fish I thought

Squish the fish
Originally, yes. But they had that whole rebranding a few years back where they (mostly) dropped the Devil Ray mascot for a sunlight, uh, mascot. Even though the changes were so slight and non-commital it hardly seemed worth the effort.

None of the 3 Rays fans told me about this

300 million people watched Steve Irwin's public memorial service on television. None were Rays fans

Oddly enough, our own "Ray of Sunshine" has yet to make an appearance

It’s an absolutely perfect 4th of July—80 and low humidity. Middle age absolutely sucks and I have some major real life to deal with soon but today I’m going to enjoy a beer and the Sox on the 4th.

These 14 games are going to determine if the Sox are buyers or sellers. Lets be buyers.

That’s only true in the extreme. Seriously. If they go 10-4 or better or 4-10 or worse, that will have a major impact on their outlook.

Anything in the middle will not mean anything so dramatic. And that’s the most likely outcome.
