Panthers - Bolts

Rangers - Canes

Bettman must be wetting himself. Guaranteed a southern market and either a 2nd southern market or NY. Funny that.

I haven't seen anything yet about Brayden Point's injury. He sat on the bench for the 2nd and 3rd periods of G7. He's one of the best Bolts' players and hugely important to their scoring.

doubtful for game 1 then day to day according to Cooper
My guess is they sit him G1 and G2 to get him some extended rest, then he can hopefully go in the B2B G3 and G4 at home. But again, these guys turn into T-1000s for the playoffs, so he'll probably get 20 minutes tonight.

Yeah, it sucks. But they've got some more games to play. I don't have high expectations for this series, but we'll see how it goes.

Apropos of nothing, I've been trying to watch extended highlights of every playoff game in every series via www.dtmts.com - spoiler free, so I can watch the game unfold without knowing the winner. (It's really the only way for me to follow everything, with the games taking place through the night here in the UK.) And...I'm sorry, but NHL.com needs to overhaul their editing team. It's extraordinary just how many highlights packages I see with major errors - e.g., in FLA-TB Game 1, they showed the referee's call overturning the potential tying goal before they showed the goal itself - or in which they show 20 dull clips from the 1st period and then only 2 or 3 clips from the 3rd period, as if they're only interested in filling the 9 minutes they have to fill rather than telling the story of everything important that happened in the game. Grrrrr.

(Rant over.)

Exciting finish, but story of the game is Lightning kicking things up into championship lockdown mode ever since game 7 against the Leafs. They were flying all over the ice throwing themselves in front of pucks. Stamkos was diving into slapshots. Guys taking pucks off the face. This is the reverse of 2019. Lightning are the hard asses now.

Yeah no question. I’ve heard the story told by Gretzky, Messier and Coffey about how they walked past the Islanders locker room after getting swept in 1983 with no bumps or bruises and there are the Islanders with ice packs, heat pads and dealing with all sorts of ailments and realizing they weren’t doing enough to win.

Maybe the Leafs really were the 2nd best team in the playoffs

Tampa might but the Panthers are both young and don't really play a game suited for the playoffs.

I think the Bruins would be losing to TBL right now if they had played Florida instead of Carolina.

I wonder if that is the end of Joe Thornton. Incidentally was on the ice for the Lightning goal so -1 after not playing at all in the playoffs. Sad.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride...

Vasi was excellent yesterday, but the 49 shots included a lot of volume and didn't feel like a lot of high danger chances, whereas the Bolts' 26 shots felt like really good ones--Bob also had a terrific game and made a couple of jaw-dropping saves. The shot chart shows shots from everywhere for the Panthers, but lots from the blueline and outside the dots. Probably still have a game's worth of stuff from the slot too though. Where can I find high danger chance data? It's not on hockey ref. The Bolts blocked 2x the shots of the Panthers. That's a lot and it was evident from watching.

Just to riff off the discussion in the offseason thread, it's pretty remarkable to me how much the Bolts lean on their best 13 skaters. All have 14+ TOI, and you know (or should know) all of their names outside of Paul, Colton, and Hagel. N.B. all 3 of those guys make $1M-$1.5M. Getting good production out of Perry is definitely an effect of playing with such a talented squad, but that's what happens when you manage the cap so well. Ditto for Maroon.

Just looking at their roster, Cernak is a great deal at $3M/year at age 24. Signed for one more year at that number before RFA. Cirelli and Killorn are also pretty good value at $4.8M and $4.4M AAV for another year.

Palat might be a good target at C. He's at $5.3M and an UFA, but at 31 probably can be had at ~$4.5M for 4 years, or at the same price for 3 years. I don't know that he's necessarily that good, but if he's the 2C or 3C for a few years that seems like a better use of funds than say...Foligno at $3.8M or Forbort at $3M.

High danger chances were 14-9 Tampa in all situations. The Lightning had more xGF, 3.98 - 3.91. So 49-26 in shots but most of it was fluff.

Florida was legitimately good but I think their point total was inflated by OT and SO wins.

He was skating towards Domi like he usually does with his elbow out the whole sequence. Domi was getting his head picked whether he fell or not.

Trouba has become the d-man Tom Wilson in the east. Capable of completely altering any series with questionable hits.

I'm shocked it wasn't Aho.

Anyway I'm sure DOPS will look the other way since you know they won't stop yapping about 1994 on NHLN.
