EPL Week 2 Game Thread: Tim Sherwood as Riggins in Friday Night Lights

Everton have had some really, really bad away kits in their history.

None of those are even third/alternate strips, either. (Bonus points if you recognized them as 1988-90, 1992-94, 1994-95, 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2013-14, respectively.) But yeah, this year's third strip takes some beating in the pantheon of ugliness:

And they're playing Southampton today - why not just use the blue-and-white home kit? </stupid rhetorical question>

The only thing they've done wrong today is put on those kits.
I kind of like them, especially if they play like this. Everton have been ruthless today.

Maybe because the Southampton keepers kit is blue?

Holy shit some TERRIBLE refereeing today.
Sakho breaks through clean into the box on a long ball, gets a touch past the keeper, who reaches out his arm to stop him.
No red card, no penalty,
Nothing.

One of the worst calls I've seen.

It's a foul to me but I've definitely seen a lot worse. The contact was minimal and Sakho had over hit the ball. I think it should have been a pen but not a denial of a goal scoring opportunity.

Wow,
another player dragged down in the box and no call. Defender had his back to the cross and a big handful of Jersey.

Live Extra just shit the bed for me. Can't get more than a few seconds of any game before the feed dies.

Very glad I decided to watch Spurs v Stoke. Some of these chances and saves have been unbelievable. Especially strange in an otherwise boring match

Edit: I'm very eager to see Stoke with Shaqiri. Right now Spurs are pretty content to leave the Stoke CMs with some space Shaqiri may really be dynamic in this setup

I'm learning to hate Leicester. They have been ridiculously time wasting since the 50th minute.
It just took them over 2 minutes to take a corner and only because the ref threatened to book the captain.

And of course it pays off. 3 minutes of stoppage time. This ref is a disgrace to his profession.

Edit- and a red on Adrian on a ridiculous call.

They just said on MOTD that Sunderland are having crisis talks tomorrow, after two fuckin games. Sunderland would be a good fit for Big Sam if Dick Advocaat decides he's not up for it. I know it's early days but this is Sunderland. As Garth Crooks says repeatedly, something's not right up there. No kidding. Norwich had acres of space to pass the ball about and get into the final third untroubled. For a first home game of the season there was not a lot of fucks given by the Sunderland players.

James MacArthur has done that at least 3 times I can remember since he's been at Palace. He must be emergency goalkeeper.

Pardew deserves the blame for that Arsenal near-goal on the counter. You don't put in a set play that brings up one of your two cover men on a corner without telling someone else to cheat back.

Agreed, I couldn't believe there was no one back.

A pretty good half from Arsenal overall against a good team in a tough park.  But we lacked a little sharpness in the final third (particularly Alexis) and that has come back to haunt us.  The goal was just one of those things in football - perfectly struck and you tip your hat.  Koscielny could probably have closed down a little faster (same was true on the second goal last week) but I don't blame Cech as it was a great strike.  Unfortunately, if you don't bury opponents when you can, then you're always just one moment away from trouble.

Palace can really hurt you on the wings with Zaha and Bolasie.  I like the way Pardew has them playing, pushing forward and trying to play an open attacking game.

I'm worried about this second half.

Yeah, right about the time I said Palace looked like crap, they made some adjustments and looked much better. Arsenal keeps getting so many opportunities in the box, it's scaring me. I'm a bit pissed they won't be playing the second half without Coquelin.

It was a really exciting first half though. I wonder if both teams can keep up the pace.

Fuck, no Bolasie for the 2nd half.

I understand Le Coq is in danger of getting sent off but taking off your DM when protecting a one goal lead is...questionable.

Also, the fact that Wenger preferred to put on Ox rather than Arteta kind of says it all about our backup DM options.
