Error 522

Lately, I've been getting this message.

"Website is offline 522: connection timed out." I also get this.
What happened?
The initial connection between CloudFlare's network and the origin web server timed out. As a result, the web page can not be displayed.
What can I do?
If you're a visitor of this website:
Please try again in a few minutes.
If you're the owner of this website:
Contact your hosting provider letting them know your web server is not completing requests. An Error 522 means that the request was able to connect to your web server, but that the request didn't finish. The most likely cause is that something on your server is hogging resources. Additional troubleshooting information here
I get the message on my iPad and also a PC running Chrome.

Does it ever not go away after a minute or two?

Pro tip - don't use your browser refresh, use the Reload button inside the 522 page.

It happens all the time. SoSH is the least reliable site I visit on the internet. But it usually does fix itself in a few minutes.

Constant problem, doesn't always refresh from within the page. Worst in Chrome, less so in IE or iOs. Oddly, I seldom have a problem in the Support forum.

I'm seeing this problem very frequently over the past week or so as well.  Seeing it with both Chrome on a Windows PC and Mobile Safari on multiple iOS devices. Also seeing it both at home and at work.

I am having a really hard time getting on the forums in the browser. 90% of the time I get a 502 from cloud flare telling me the host is off-line. At the same time I can access the forums just fine from the iOS app.

I am in Austria for what it's worth, the cloud flare servers are in Amsterdam

This has been happening to me a lot recently, too.

i'll be moving us and upgrading us asap afterwards.  If the site disappears for a few hours... that'd be good ol' Nip.

I did a mock move yesterday and it took 3 hours.

I will not be upgrading and moving at the same time, but depending on performance when we move I may decide to.

This install is completely fricking corrupt.  The moral of the story is that I can do some really dumb things sometimes.  (which we all know)

Site is hard to use. Random error messages in both IE and Chrome. Haven't tried FF yet but will.

Edit: spelling. Not sure what an ite is.

Is there a particularly worse issue with Safari? Because I can barely get on except for on mobile. Did we move yet?

Move didn't go through.  We'll probably try to get it done Saturday.

It's worse than ever. (Stop bitching.)

Any migration to the new server in sight?

Just as an update -- I'm getting this error again, either when I try to access the site from my home internet connection or via 4g. From my work internet connection, there is no problem (obviously, as I'm able to type this). I literally just tried to access the site with my mobile phone and once again I get the 522 error. For what it's worth, I live in Madrid, I've been accessing this site for the 10 years I've lived here with no problems except for the last few weeks.

Another strange occurrence is that two times now during the course of typing this post I get a popup with a "file not found" error.

I'm using Firefox.

Anyway, not a bit deal if no one else has the error, and I suppose I should be thankful I can still waste a bit of time at work with SOSH.

I'm having this same problem. Can't connect to the site at work, only at home. And weirder, can't connect on the mobile app anywhere, but the phone's browser works.

I've been having this problem for the past few days and, like trs, I also live in Spain. I can't access using a web browser in my PC or using the app on my phone, using my home connection or a 4G network. Today, I tried using a german proxy and it works! I've tried a couple more things, and I'd say CloudFlare is either blocking Spain (or at least part of it) from accesing SOSH (on purpose) or there's some problem at CloudFlare's local node in Madrid.
So, if they could check what's wrong there, it would be nice. In the meantime I'll try to find a way to send the SOSH app through a proxy. Shouldn't be that hard :)
