In the NFL, on a punt, if you get even a single thread of the ball's laces, you can smash into the punter and it's no penalty. Is it the same rule in soccer if you're the keeper? Clearly he got the ball, but he really smashed full on into the Portugese player's face.

In the NBA, they would have awarded that 10 free throws

How can Danilo just pop back up and go back in the game after that? Isn't there supposed to be a concussion protocol?

supposed to be. Im not sure the actual policy, but ive heard the announcers across severa games mock it and say fifa really needs to review this

I don't know. For me its a definite pen. I'd like to see that called more often. It was pretty reckless by Lloris.

Does it matter that he got a touch of the ball? Does it matter if a player lunges in two footed and gets the ball?

Its a grey area. I'm okay with it.

I hate how soccer has alternate players take the pen

(even taking out the fantasy element)

Speaking of concussion stuff:
Ger - Hun 2 players go up for a head ball, they knock heads. Cynical me says the Ger was hoping for a PK and the Hun was hoping to prevent a PK call by saying I got hurt too. Physios from both teams run out. Tend to each player for 2-3 minutes. Then they both pop up at the exact same moment and just go back to their positions on the pitch.
They didn't even have to go to the side to be waved on.

Ohhh, and German guy getting beat around the corner outside the 18, dives and handles the ball. Yellow. about 2 inches from the box
edit- Hun PK hits near post basically at the crossbar, but short and goes out. Not sure Neuer gets it if that curls inside the post

You have to call that penalty because that hand is in such a crazy position. A kick from the spot is a completely unfair result but I don’t know how you make a rule that accounts for the nothingness of the situation and doesn’t encourage defenders to handle things when they sense danger

Hun with a big mistake. Ball lofted in from 40 yards, 2-3 Ger in the box, keeper comes off the line and completely whiffs on the ball, Ger heads it in.
Review they are onside

It was the shot block followed by an immediate second shot that explained where his arms were. But yeah, you can't really write a rule exception for that.

Hands up and away from the body..you have to call that.
It's such a mess. The rule as rewritten in March reads:

Handling the ball
For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence.

It is an offence if a player:

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
  • scores in the opponents’ goal:
    • directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper
    • immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental
I look at what happened and see that it clearly wasn't intentional. Kounde is jumping and turning in the air with this arm bent near shoulder height. Is that unnatural for the specific situation? It's such a bizzare judgment call to have to make.
