I really think Clarke got this wrong from the first, needed to be more on the front foot. Not much difference between these teams other than the individual brilliance of Shick. Opportunity wasted for Scotland
Disappointing result but I think Scotland can hold their heads high. They created plenty, it just wouldn't go in the net. Schick scored two amazing goals.
I was just watching a replay of that first Schick goal and while the second goal will get all the headlines, that was a sublime piece of work by the two players. (Sorry to the Scotland supporters.)
It has been a really good tournament so far. I always forget that the first two match days of Euro and World Cup are always the best.
I wonder whether the five substitutions will make managers quicker to substitute out players who are playing on an early yellow.
I don't know Poland's squad very well, so I really don't know how much they would have given away if they had taken Krychowiak out of the game at half or something. He's a really experienced player and I guess you have to trust him to be careful but when you get a defensive midfielder on an early yellow in this tournament, with five substitutions you really have a choice to make. Since you only get three sub periods I guess you'd need to wait until you were doing it for another player anyway.
I think this may be worth following with the bigger clubs where the step down at certain positions is really not a big deal. A group stage second yellow is a big deal.
I know it's rare to get called on a set piece but I think Frankowski had a really good shout for a penalty there. Announcers didn't seem to notice or think so. But that was a more obvious pull down than usual.
I'm surprised Spain doesn't have Paco Alcacer on the squad. Morata doesn't inspire confidence, although Moreno is a nice backup to have. Also, if Inaki Williams is still not committed to a NT, I would've thought he would be on the squad.
Sweden are going to play 11 behind the ball and take their chance on a set piece. They have a good backline and won't make a lot of mistakes, but definitely not going to excite neutral fans. Isak starts which is nice.
I'm at work so I'm watching this shit multi-camera ESPN+ feed that literally doesn't show the Spanish side of the field, just Sweden's. Sweden isn't going to spend a ton of time in Spanish territory, but god damn.
Seems like it's only a matter of time for Spain to get a goal because Sweden is so preoccupied with appealing for offside calls that aren't close to offside that they stop defending. Every time Spain goes forward you have like 7 Sweden players raising their hands and looking over at the AR.
Lot of space between the two CBs for Spain right now; if Sweden is going to play this conservative they need to be better at seeing off those runs down the middle.
