If the offside rule looked at whether the player’s entire body was behind the last defender and not where his the foot or pubes are, a la hockey, this would be a hell of a lot more interesting

The whole thing with a player going down injured and the team asking the opposition to knock it out is annoying . Countless times you will have a team that has a player down continue to play on if they have an attacking advantage . As soon as they lose that advantage suddenly they want the ball out .

Totally agree. Kills the game IMO

Exactly. If the guy is entirely behind the defender call it. If he breaks 1/8 of a second early that isnt an advantage.

The overcorrection of replay / video

Now robo umps on the other hand...

Ya the gamesmanship goes both ways.Striker goes down with the turnover late in the game? Call me cynical but that seems designed to slow the counter.

That is a great finish

edit - i have to add on the replay the touches are even more impressive on replay. That is an exceptional goal

Wales, Scotland, and NI should merge so they don't embarrass the soccer homeland any more.

courageous effort from the Austrians...I figured them to make a game of it but that was impressive. Too bad the little breaks didn’t go their way.

Throw me a bone here .. has Italy played poorly or has Austria played far better than anticipated?
Italy had the better of the game for much of it, but then in the second half Austria started dominating, really. Had a goal disallowed by *thismuch* on a super close (but correct) offsides call. In extra time, Italy scored twice brilliantly, and it seemed over, but then Austria did well to keep the pressure on and get a goal.

I thought Austria played very well and Italy played below their normal standard. Hence the razor-thin margin.
