This is the kind of game the dutch lose a lot. Organised opponent, strong and tough. This one has me worried. First to score advances. Tjechs because they shut the door, dutch because open space will mean more goals.

I hope Belgium but they look lacklusteR. Think the portugese will steal it and ill be watching the wailing on the Belgium TV.
Dutch look really lackadaisical so far. Lots of standing around and not trying to get open or compete for 50-50 balls or chase balls down. I guess they are better even at 75 percent speed but they have looked stuck in mud everywhere but when the attack is on in the last third and they turn it on.
I think the reason the camera keeps showing the same women is that there are only like ten women in that stadium.
Interesting game. Pretty balanced overall, but I agree that the Dutch don't look incisive, whereas the Czechs do.
It’s probably ok in this case, but the seemingly casual protocols around evaluating people who get hit in the head are disturbing.

Now the Netherlands' best hope, I would think, is to somehow hang on through regulation and OT and get it to PKs. I don't see them scoring shorthanded unless the Czechs make a catastrophic mistake.
I really hate the new hand ball rules that require defenders to play with their arms (quite literally) behind their back, but I think this is a red even under the old system. The only thing between the attacker and the goalie was the defender's hand playing the ball.
I saw a deliberate attempt to break up a scoring chance by playing the ball away from the attacker with his hand. If you thought he simply fell naturally and happened to bump the ball in that direction, I can see why you’d hate the call.
Basketball is 7 trillion times worse. The thing I have always loved about football was that there’s was a certain amount of room for the refs to maintain the spirit of some of these rules. It has descended into a lawyerly mess which is ruining matches
edit: I’ll need to watch it again as I’ve only been paying half attention. I have no horse in this race but my first viewing it looked clumsy but not something worth sending some off over. If he did deliberately handle it and I didn’t see it then he deserves it for his own stupidity
I thought it was deliberate to the point where I half-thought he was doing a sloppy version of that “hey I got fouled and am grabbing the ball to force the issue” thing that offensive players more often do.
The swat of the ball with his hand absolutely looked deliberate to me. Not a natural way of falling at all.
As to the red discussion, the defender is beat, no one behind him, and makes a clear scooping motion to corral the ball. That is a red in any interpretation of the hand ball rules.
