It's official. American congolmerate The Friedkin Group, film producers, luxe inkeepers, Toyota distributors, and owners of AS Roma, are now majority owners (95%+; there are a few shares in other hands) of Everton FC.
In addition to assuming complete control, The Friedkin Group restructured the crippling debt that had hung around the club's neck over the past several seasons. That debt has been either paid off or repackaged and separated so it is no longer on the club's books or associated with the club in any way.
So, Everton will have money to spend, for the first time in a long time.
Moreover, the persistent, underlying unpleasantness of the Moshiri/Kenwright regime is now gone. Like a bad smell from an unidentified source in the house, it was sometimes stronger than at other times but it never fully went away. Now Mosihiri can be properly lauded for finally delivering a new stadium after several abortive attempts, and hopefully his ruinous record of overpays for players and bad managerial hires can be nothing more than a bad memory.
Leaks have it that DoF Kevin Thelwell, an American, is favored to stay. I think Thelwell has done a decent job under very tough circumstances and while I would understand if they wanted to clean house, I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a run with a decent budget.
Dyche? No word yet. Friedkin has been ax-happy at Roma this season. The terraces at Goodison are tired of Dyche's painfully unadventurous style. It's generally acknowledged that he did great work to keep us up but he's worn out his welcome with game after game of dull, aimless attacking play.
I expect Goodison to be rocking against Chelsea on Saturday.
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.
