Style points. Short week, coming off divisional road game. Facing a team coming off its bye that needs a win. Without three (!!) starting linemen. Awful weather. Take a 3 score lead after a quarter, and have same 3 score lead in the 4th quarter (even though they gave it back a bit in the middle). I mean, come on. They beat the spread. Fairly easily.

Plus, what I’d call balanced listeners aren’t by and large the ones calling in after losses, anyways. No need to stoke the flames when you’ve got a slew of fire breathing dragons in the call queue. If anything, it perhaps can be counterproductive to push a particular narrative when you can just let the vitriol flow from whatever angle it happens to be spewed from.

The righteous indignation and faux outrage over Bill's trolling the Eagles about guys having fun is hilarious for its stupidity.

Turned it on for maybe a minute yesterday at 5pm thinking just maybe Felger at least might have a good conversation going after the tape was released.

nope. It was him screeching into the microphone about how people were stupid to think football operations didn’t know.

On to podcasts instead. Even Fred admitted he didn’t see anything on the leaked tape to make him think it was that bad.

I say this time and time again, I don’t get how this continues to sell and consistently gets good ratings. It’s is brutal radio. I get people will just hate listen but at some point that has to become tired and you have to figure out they are just trolls. I still occasionally turn it on but those times are getting few and far between now. Too many better options out there with podcasts. That said, this could just be a me problem. After not being able to get enough sports radio in the 2000s, I may have just grown tired of it and moved on to other options. But I don’t remember Ordway in his heyday constantly trolling the hometown fans on the evening drive.

I really am not privy to their ratings, has it dropped off at all?. I know they are #1 but is the audience shrinking? With so many options available now, if it isn’t, that is amazing to me.

Here's the thing, no longer living in New England I'm the furthest thing from a homer or Patriot's apologist and sometimes can appreciate where he's coming from. I've defended the show at points in the past because I didn't think they were playing contrarian so much as offering a differing point of view. So when I can't make it past a minute of his almost hysterical vitriol of the team, then IMO there is a problem, because if he was calmly discussing the facts even if it were an Anti-Patriot stance I could listen for at least a little bit to see if there was something I was missing or hadn't considered.

I agree with you that a rational opposing viewpoint has a place in local sports radio and can be beneficial. It’s just that they were often so over the top that they ended up losing me a long time ago. It got to the point where I couldn’t take their rational opposing viewpoints seriously because of previous transgressions.

One thing I will be interested in is what tactic they take when the patriots inevitability go through a rough patch. My guess is they will take the opposite approach and be supportive.

This pretty much describes our local guys (Portland) to a T (the opposing viewpoint). Used to be level headed and good discussion but now it's nothing but incoherent yelling and screaming. Pats are cheaters and the whole dynasty is fraudulent He's a friend of mine, but I've told him that I can't listen any longer. it's not good radio. He says he understands why Pats fans wouldn't listen. But you can tell he loves the attention, the back and forth on social media, and overall being the guy that isn't going to suck up to the local team like the rest of the "media". It's brutal.

The weird thing who in the local New England media are the true homers that all theses guys always seem to be railing against?

all of these guys act like we are a swim of a media landscape where the Pats are revered by the media. They can do no wrong. The media never dares criticize them.

Except for these lone brave souls, these voices in the wilderness.

Right? At this point, I would love somebody to be pro-Patriots just for a little while. If anybody took that angle, that would be refreshing.

Felger: Blllleeeeeeaaaahhhhhh I'm a Patriots fan and I need to be coddled. What a honk.

They like to compare themselves to EEI ("if you want sunshine and roses, go listen to them") so anybody at that station. And they'll rail on anybody who has a reasonable take/thought on twitter. The Kyed's, Giardi's, Hurley's, Curran's, ect

This is a typical "us versus them" mentality. WE give it to you straight. THEY give you propaganda. WE aren't afraid to criticize Belichick, Brady and Kraft. THEY are afraid of losing access. On and on and on it goes.

And it's not just the Pats, it's the Celts with their "Green Teamers" and the Sox with the "BBWA". The only team that they don't do this for is the Bruins. But I'm pretty sure that's because Felger is a legit fan of the B's and he's also afraid of Cam Neely.

Felger and Mazz are a microcosm of what's happening in this country. If you aren't on our side, you're a dirty enemy. And not only that, but you're dumb and a liar too.

Paraphrase of Murray today: 2018 has an asterisk, that team came out of no where.

The Felger and Mazz show has become a caricature of itself.

Trash murray all you want, but around 5:30 today he went after Felger and Mazz HARD

Both of the previous opining that a great choice to replace Brady would be Eli Manning (in dead seriousness). Murray came out with how insane that is because Manning absolutely sucks now and has for several years, also pointing out that at least Philip Rivers is a season or two from MVP consideration. He continued with that the only way they could put that out there is how they knew that the idea would churn up the Pats fan base because of the 2 SBs and that it was just obvious blatant trolling.
It was a nice welcome to have someone stand up to them so strongly.

Felger said something to the effect of 'that's not how we think' in regards to the intentionally trolling comment, which is just indefensible.

Yes, the B’s and C’s should get more airtime. I totally agree.

There are a few problems with this vis-à-vis F&M:
  • They know absolutely nothing/zero/zilch/nada about professional basketball; their Celtics/NBA talk is embarrassing
  • Felger knows hockey (the others don’t), but the combination of hockey not being a high caller-volume sport and their relentlessly negative approach to the show make it hard to sustain segments on the sport
  • Ergo they default to the Patriots as topic #1 from August-March (and topic #2 from April-July) irrespective of whether there is anything substantive going on with the team. They merely antagonize about the team to generate callers, and unfortunately they are rewarded for this approach.

Your points make sense, but their job is to generate calls/ listeners. Not have an even well rounded discussion for all the teams. They're not going to force Cs talk if it means taking a hit.

+ 100 its like if I had a sports talk show in Jonesboro Arkansas I wouild be forced to talk about the Cardinals grizz red wolfs cowboys tenn tight and there are very few hockey fans in Arkansas when I dislike the Cardinals Red wolfs very much

but if I ran a sports talk show I would try and have guests know about the local teams so I understand about trolling and stuff and ad reave so on and so on

So, I am home recovering from a minor surgery. I am about to tune into the show because it donned on me just now that I have expectations of Tony Mazz in this spot. He's supposedly a baseball guy. I want to hear him talk about Graterol. The one part about this trade for a Sox fan to be excited about is Graterol.

E: They were mostly fair. Except they categorized Graterol as an oft-injured reliever. I don't think that's even remotely fair.
