Wonder if the Padres try and void his contract depending on when he actually was using. That's 2 strikes now, they could have tried to void it after the motorcycle injury.

What a collosally terrible idea. 13 yrs left on his contract and he's caught using a steroid. He's already overrated considering his deal, this is just a liability at this point the Pads are thinking.

Is it time for a zero tolerance policy? That would really raise the stakes for these guys.
It’s kind of insane that there isn’t one already. When contracts became these massive albatrosses, and you’re completely beholden to them regardless of what the player does - it’s insane there’s no safe guards.

The Padres organzation and players are not holding back in their anger. It's a different response than I am used to.
Good. These shithead hundred millionaires don’t deserve respect when they fuck up like this. They have every avenue in the world to not be a dumbass and so often fail.

Agreed.

Interesting quotes, I think it shows what they have been thinking about him before this news honestly.

A popular clubhouse guy with this news likely gets a different reaction.

Their success is tied to him as well. He is their "marquee" guy and supposedly the face of the future of baseball. Sucks not having the best guy on your team there to fight with you because of immaturity and stupidity.

The MLBPA isn't going to give back guaranteed contracts with how the owners are winning elsewhere in the CBA.

There should be something where any money the team saves from guys on guaranteed deals being suspended is redistributed to the pre-arb players on the team.

Why should a team, already penalized by having a suspended player taken off the roster, be required to artificially raise the baseline for pre-arb players? Why restrict a team’s ability to use the ”savings” from a suspended player to obtain a replacement?

“He hasn’t been part of our team all year, and we’ve gotten this far without him,” Machado said. “We were waiting to get him back and hopefully be a spark plug for the team. But we’ve been doing it all year.

Jake Cronenworth: “It stinks, but he hasn’t been with us all year.

Speaking to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Preller called “trust” between Tatis and the front office “something we haven’t really been able to have.”

“I think what we need to get to is a point in time where we trust,” Preller told reporters. “Over the course of the last six or seven months, I think that’s been something that we haven’t really been able to have there.”

He said he took Clostebol to treat ringworm. Unfortunately, that is a steroid. On the other hand, Clobetasol is used to treat skin issues. Seems like his camp tried to offer an innocent explanation and got the drugs wrong. Another blow to his reputation.

Clevenger— “This is the second time we’ve been disappointed with him. You hope he grows up and learns from this and learns that it’s about more than just him right now.”

I saw the interview. He went on to say that they don’t need him. He seemed done with Tatis’ BS. Which I imagine is not unique in the SD clubhouse.

Well I would love to see the Padres have a strong finish and win it all, even if it means that dickhead Machado gets one. The rest of the franchise i quite like.

Yeah, it’s complicated and probably impossible, I am just in favor of anything that better links performance and pay.

If they cant do anything about guaranteed contracts, then the teams should start putting limiters into contracts just like they do for incentives. I know we've seen things like option years vesting on games played, IP, etc. Why not something similar for options not vesting or salary decreases based on games missed due to suspension, or injuries that occur outside of baseball, etc.

If teams are worried about being on a hook for over a decade to a player who uses PEDs, then they shouldn't be handing out 13-year contracts to 22-year-olds. The punishment for a positive test has already been collectively bargained and everyone knew that going into the deal.

You have to get extraordinarily lucky to have a positive outcome on a contract that long. A player could get busted for PEDs, suffer an injury, or just stop performing at the expected level. On the management side, finances can change, CBAs will change, and players in the pipeline change.

Wait a second. I was prescribed Clobetasol to treat psoriasis. It didn’t do shit to make me a better softball player. I demand a refund!

It's certainly a gamble. It's annoying seeing fans and media chirp when teams are reluctant to give fan favorite players these contracts because it's not just about being cheap.
