at least so far the music has not been dull clichés, but everyone is clearly so far below the Russians it's absurd
Yea I’m enjoying the music a lot. Even when they’re clearly not the best these girls are still amazing, I love watching pretty much everyone.

lol, so tonight's theme of those in the thread is 'I don't really want to watch very much skating so....'
Not at all. The opposite actually Want to watch everything for the skating tonight, just want to make sure I allocated enough time and plan.

its the other pt stuff I dont care as much about - sssk and I'm guessing men's alpine

My wife and I ate dinner at a local restaurant and watched some skating on the TV. We saw a Swiss woman named "Paganini" skate in one of the early groups.

Now, an hour later, at home, we are sitting watching ... a Swiss woman named "Paganini" skating. Again.

WTF?

German lady dancing to Schindler’s List. Hmmm.

The Aussie girl was cute. Terrible music.

and she's named Paganini and skating for Switzerland, but she skated, until last year, for the US and is actually American. With no decent path to our team she did what many do: went to a nation she could qualify for the team...in this case, her dad's birthplace.

Why is the long program called free skate? What's free about it?
Back in the old days (up to 1990), there were three phases to the competition. First, the "figure" phase, in which skaters had to create figures (circles, triangles, etc.) on the ice. Judges would walk over and inspect the grooves left by their skates -- very strange to our eyes today. Next was the short program, in which skaters had to perform a set list of elements, though I believe they could choose the order. The final item was the "free skate", when skaters could choose what elements to perform.

These days, only the latter two phases survive. Probably a good thing overall. I wish they had been eliminated just a little earlier, as there's a good chance Midori Ito would have taken a gold medal without them.

Thought they were actually pretty kind to Sotskova. It wasn't a terrible routine, and she hit most of her elements. It just felt kind of slo and the jumps were somehow blah

Please please finish ahead of Sotskova so we don't have all 3 Russians beat all 3 Americans

Ok rooting for the older one.
Me to, I just want to see what she has in store for the final skating spectacular. Plus it feels like it is her time. Obviously body changes, injruries, etc, might change things, but right now it is hard to imagine Alina not dominating the competition in 4 years, just destroying records

It was a good fit of music for Tennell.

That was some of the least effective music I've ever heard for a skating program. Bleah.

[edit] I guess we have a difference of opinion :-/

I get it. My point is it fits her perfectly. Plus come on it is the year of Dilly Dilly, so why not use Lavender Blue

I can see at the same time it might not be the type of music that will ever put her on a podium internationally.

Ashley Wagner must be sitting home going. Well at least I signed my endorsement deals before they put these people on the team

That was rubbish. Why do you stick a triple axel first thing in the program if you rarely do it properly and it throws everything else off?

Because it's really, really, difficult, and you need all the energy you have to do it properly?
