@ScottMCBS Pedro Ciriaco, subbing for injured Everth Cabrera, has a triple and a HR tonight for streaking #Padres, who lead #Dodgers 6-2 in 8th.

He really does not want to return to the Red Sox.

Carp's emergence has really softened the blow of losing Sweeney needlessly, only to have him put up great numbers for Chicago. We may really have something there.

Make it 4 of 5. Padres score 3 in the 9th. 2 of the runs charged to Lee.

I noticed Ryan Sweeney is hitting .306 with 3 HR in 98 AB... .520 SLG.  I wonder if he has  figured something out, or if it's just a brief blip in his career.

Engel Beltre, the cornerstone of the Eric Gagne trade (not really), just got caught stealing in a pinch running appearance in his major league debut for Texas.

Was it? So to keep Sweeney, which of Carp or Nava were you letting go? Once Ortiz came back, someone had to go of these three.

He's probably on the "why'd we sign Gomes" bandwagon.

Gomes is awesome.  Those bandwagon guys will learn! :)

But even so, Gomes was already signed long before they had to make that decision, so it would be irrelevant, no?  Or the question changes to, which of these three are you dropping: Gomes, Carp, Nava.  But the Sox aren't going to drop anyone with a 2yr/10M commitment.

In other words, looking back, the Sox made the right decision.

I know you must have edited this after last night's game, but I can't for the life of me figure out how!

Don't see as many posts this year about Youkilis (still on DL) or Reddick (hitting .217 with 3 HR in nearly 200 AB).

Ryan Sweeney on the DL and off baseball activity for 4-6 weeks after running into a wall
Carlos Pena on the bereavement list of Houston due to the drowning death of his nephew
Nick Hagadone back up on the Tribe replacing Michael Bourn who is on the paternity list (circle of life)

Interesting thing about Reddick despite his poor batting average is that he's significantly improved his BB rate from 8.2 to 10.2, while cutting his strikeout rate from 22.4 to 17.2 and has a .252 BAbip vs. a career .272, which even that seems on the unlucky side.   And, since returning from the DL he has a .355/.391 OBP/SLG in 124 PAs, which is otherwise known as "Shane Victorino at $500k instead of 3 years and $39 million"

Yes, .355/.391, if he can keep that up for this whole season.  And, is Reddick on par with Victorino, defensively?  Watching that guy on a daily basis (Victorino), really makes you appreciate what he can do.

Wait, a .746 OPS is something awesome now?

The 124 PAs thing is just great. If you want to break it down further, he's at a 745 OPS over this last 28 days, a 648 OPS over his last 14 days, and a 552 OPS over his last 7. If the original point was that he was injured which is why his numbers were dogshit this year, it's odd to see him playing worse the further he gets away from the injury.

You've mistakenly included his time before going on the DL in early May. After it's actually .333/.402 in 106 PAs. Not bad, but not as good as you attempted to communicate.

Sandy Rosario, who was briefly a member of the Sox on two seperate instantces this past offseason due to some waiver wire roullette, is starting to put together a nice season for the Giants.

With Adam Rosales being DFA'd, Jed Lowrie is now the starting SS for the A's.  This is probably a mistake on their part.

Rosales had played 33 games at SS for the A's; Lowrie has played 66 games at SS for the A's

It's actually 60 games at SS for Lowrie, with 22 games at 2b.  But your overall point is fair -- Lowrie's been their starting SS for most of this year.  I thought he'd been playing 2b a lot more than he has been.  That's what I get for parroting an A's beat writer.

Pedro Ciriaco claimed off waivers by the Royals.  They have a bit of a logjam in the MIF, not sure where he's going to fit.  Dayton Moore does call him "organizational depth", but he'll likely have to send someone down with options.

Lowe had a very solid career. Did some great things for the Sox and was huge when it mattered the most in 2004 despite not having a good regular season that year.

My favorite Lowe moment was actually in 2003, to close out the As in the ALDS. Just a sick, sick pitch under immense pressure:

What ever happened to Kyle Weiland? I know he had the shoulder infection last season, but he hasn't pitched at all this year and there hasn't one bit of news on him, has just disappeared.

Or, less obnoxiously, since Google in fact provides very little info, you could have said that he had shoulder surgery last May, missed the rest of the 2012 season, and then was outrighted to AAA Oklahoma City this spring. Oddly enough he doesn't seem to have pitched at all for OK City this year, and there's very little news otherwise on him. He must be either still recovering from surgery or quit baseball.

Yes, true.  I thought I was trying to convey I was joking around with the smiley emoticon, but I can see how that might be viewed as obnoxious.  Just having some fun.  In actuality, I was curious, based on his post, I'd like to know too!  So I googled it.  And since I happen to be on google ... a little cut and past of my search term and whoola! ... this was the first link: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120620&content_id=33629418&notebook_id=33633308&vkey=notebook_hou&c_id=hou

Oh my god, I'm retarded.  I thought that was from June 2013.  Nevermind.  Bad joke went ... *splat*.

EDIT: Now I'm really curious.  This dude must have quit baseball.  Although, WTF is the Lollipop Guild and how does it relate to baseball?

Some of the unsuccessful MLB players that have been brought in via free agency, trade or waiver claim in the past couple years are: Ronny Cenedo, Carlos Pena, Philip Humber, Rick Ankiel, Armando Galarraga, Chris Snyder, Travis Buck, Jack Cust, Kyle Weiland, Alex White and John Ely. White and Ely have since had injury issues, Weiland has joined the Lollipop Guild

EDIT 2: No lie.  I just called the Houston Astros!  Whoever I first talked to, transferred me to someone (I forgot to ask her name), and she wasn't sure and would have to "do some digging".  It's pretty bad when the Houston Astros themselves have to do some digging. :q:
