Salty' s on one of his increasingly infrequent tears. He had a decent second half last year actually. Still not that old. Wonder if the team that fixed JD Martinez fixed him.

There's a nice piece in the NYT today on Rich Hill, who will pitch for Oakland tonight at Yankee Stadium:http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/21/sports/baseball/rich-hill-seeking-a-higher-ground.html?&moduleDetail=section-news-3&action=click&contentCollection=Baseball&region=Footer&module=MoreInSection&version=WhatsNext&contentID=WhatsNext&pgtype=article
Hill got back partly with help from Brian Bannister, a former major leaguer who works closely with Red Sox pitchers. Bannister helped Hill understand that some of baseball’s most dominant pitchers, like Felix Hernandez and Clayton Kershaw, throw a high percentage of off-speed pitches. Hill would have the freedom to emphasize his strengths.

Early season report on our friend Jose Iglesias. 46 AB and a .326 average, ,404 OBP, and a .752 OPS. He has one RBI and one stolen base so far. After all the speculation, he may turn out to be a decent hitter after all.

Josh Beckett is caddying on the PGA tour. I find this comical. But, I'm someone who hates work.

Well, sort of. He was on the bag for a friend of his - Brett Wetterich - at the Valero Open (which is near Beckett's ranch) when Wetterich qualified at the last moment. He caddied for him once earlier this year at a web.com event, but Wetterich has only played in those two events all year and is currently 159th on the web.com money list at $1,147, so he's probably got a different caddie every week. I think it's more likely just Josh having fun with a buddy than any kind of work.

Ah that makes more sense.

He has an ISO of .022. At this point though, he looks like a .300 hitter who can draw some walks and that's all he has to be to be above average for the position. Interesting slash lines.

Manuel Margot is pretty much repeating last year at this point, .269/.333/404 in AAA. Guerra is at .218/267/.418 in High A, but does have 3 HR and 2 2b in 55 at bats... so maybe the power is real.

It's getting hard for me to comprehend that Adrian Beltre debuted for the Dodgers in 1998, at the age of 19. It's even harder for me to comprehend that after getting scant love in between his 2004 MVP runner-up season and his 2010 year in Boston, that since coming to the Sox he has finished in the top 15 in the MVP vote each of the last 6 years. 2010 for Boston, and 2011-present for Texas of course, but he's been on a tear from his age 31 season till now at age 37. Averaging 6.5 bWAR, and never less than 5.6. Building quite a HOF case.

Time to update the poll?

I had always been under the impresion that 'FedEx' referred to the catching combo of Tim Federowicz and Luis Exposito when they were progressing through the minors, and not Federowicz singularly.

10 hits for Josh Reddick in the last two days. 7 came yesterday in a double header.

2.5 weeks later, with 92 AB (double the previous) his BA is .250, OBP .310, OPS .582. 2 RBI and 3 SB.

He is what we thought he was.

This is forgettable former Sox pitcher John Lackey in a completely unLackeyian camo suit. He's holding a beer.

Nothing is forgettable about that picture.

Gammons: Pirates released Daniel Bard today. Even if this is it for pitching, he will be a success in whatever else he does.

@pgammo and, by the way,he's already succeeded as being a decent, authentic person

I doubt very many of the fans around here will be forgetting him any time soon. Calling Lackey "forgettable" is a bit like booing Keith Foulke in 2005.
There is a subset of our fanbase that sadly listens to the CHB's of the world. Thus, they'd rather remember "chicken and beer" than someone who pitched tremendous and won the clinching game of the World Series. These people are morons.
