Panda's back in the majors, a serious asset to the Giants in their pursuit of yet another world championship next year's highest draft pick.

Looks like Julian Tavarez is making the anniversary rounds. He was at the 2007 Sox celebration, and tonight he was at the Giants' celebration for their 1997 team.

Edit: Panda went 1-3 tonight with a double and a run scored. He got pulled when he was about to bat with men on 1st and 3rd and no outs with a lefty on the mound in favor of Buster Posey (who hit into a run-scoring DP).

Margot now has 7 HRs in his last 16 games. In that time, he is slashing .328/.333/.716 in 69 PA. He now has 12 HRs and an ISO of .171 to go along with 11sb, albeit with 5 cs. Not that I regret the deal, but Margot is going to be really, really good. Up to .272/.309/.443 for the year as a 22 year old in SD. Granted he is hitting .336/.380/.559 at home in 166 PA, .217/.246/.343 on the road in 186.

Sam Horn finished second to Brady Anderson in a "home run" derby celebrating 25 years of Camden Yards

Brady wins 25th anniv HR DERBY! Beat Sam Horn 5-4. Four balls actually found seats-Manny came in 3rd. Btw-Sam Horn did NOT Swing and miss!

Poor bastard. His teammates cost him a perfect game with the error and they couldn't score a single run for him. Toughest loss I've ever seen. At least when Pedro took the perfecto into the 10th they wound up winning.

Panda after 19 games with the SFG: 19 hits in 69 AB. 4 BB, 12 K. 4 2B, 1 HR. BA of .275. OBP of .324. SLG of .377. OPS of .701. OPS+ 86.
in the field, 22 assists, 1 DP, 2 Errors.
.... and last night he started at first base! I haven't been paying much attention to the suck-fest that is the 2017 Giants, but this has to be because of injuries to all the other better options... right?

I can't be the only person who winced when seeing this information thinking about the last time that Panda started at 1st.

I haven't yet been able to find any info as to why he ended up there...Giants official site didn't mention it. Gonna check the local "papers" and see if I can find anything.

Travis Shaw just made an amazing play at third to prevent at least two runs scoring. The bases were loaded, and the Brewers catcher made an awful throw that was very wide outside of third. Shaw had to fly through the air to catch it. It was beautiful, and will undoubtedly be up somewhere in video form eventually.

Speaking of Shaw, over his last 29 games and 117 PA, .202/.276/.327. Doesn't include today's 0/2. His fly ball luck ran out.

Yeah, that's it. Not just a regular old routine slump that every major leaguer has had since forever. It's the beginning of the end of Travis Shaw's career. By this time next year, he'll have joined Taylor Thornburg on the ash heap of Dombrowski trades.

Manny Machado, May 2017

.191 / .238 / .391 in 122 plate appearance.

Look at Travis Shaw's slash line on flyballs. It is literally the only difference between 2016 and 2017. I know you love yourself some Travis Shaw though. Hold on to him like you hold on to Jacoby. Plus, we kinda have his whole career to go off and 2017 is the outlier so keep making stupid arguments bro. But clearly a 40% fb/hr ratio or whatever the hell he was sporting is sustainable and predictive of future success.

You keep pretending that the bad streaks of Shaw are the predictive one and the good streaks are flukes. Yet, we now have 3 extended periods in which Shaw has been way above average, and 2 long but still shorter periods in which he has been below average.

So, my point is exactly that we have Shaw's entire career to go off of, which now encompasses 1300 plate appearances of above average production. Why are you arguing that any assessment of Shaw's future should include focus disproportionately on the last 117 of them and declare that to be the true talent level?

And regarding my "Shaw love," that "love" is for the Red Sox to win. Those 1300 plate appearances say trading Shaw and 3 prospects for a 28 year old middle reliever coming off his first good season and with a prior PRP injection was really, really stupid.

I'm not pretending the .202/.276/.327 is predictive, I was just posting his recent performance. He was bound to cool off because he is not a .950+ OPS bat. There is a lot of room between the two. Most of his early season luck was due to fly balls. There is still enough time for his slash line to go either way though. You don't even have to name Machado since our very own Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, and JBJ have endured such slumps as well. I think Travis Shaw is pretty close to a league average 3b, I still don't think it was a bad trade. Just bad luck.

Travis Shaw has always been a streaky hitter, from his minor league days until today. When he has a slump, he is terrible, and when he's hot he's really hot.

His career OPS+ is 108, and that is who we should expect him to be overall. For a 3B who doesn't make any money, that is pretty good.

If he was still in Boston, he'd be leading the team in OPS, OPS+, HRs and RBIs.

And the Panda continues to eat shoots and leaves and shit the bed. The last sentence in the article is the cruel reminder that the Sox are paying this disaster a ton of money for awhile.
Panda struck out looking in a pinch-hitting appearance this evening. He has established a new franchise record for consecutive hitless at-bats.

Quoting Cbssports.com:

"The previous San Francisco record for futility was 37 at-bats by Johnnie LeMaster in 1984. The major-league record for consecutive hitless at-bats by a non-pitcher is 46 by Eugenio Velez."

Margot 3-for-5 with 4 RBI, a double and triple as the Padres snap the DBacks' 13-game winning streak.

Also: the ESPN announcer pronounced his last name with a hard T ("Mar-GOT"). Is that really how it's pronounced?
