Nava heading to Pittsburgh on a minors deal/ST invite. Hope he continues to produce; I'll root for him as long as he's playing.

Pedro Martinez has been inducted into the Canadian Baseball HoF. Yes, there is one.

Jonny Gomes has been hired by the Diamondbacks as an AZL rookie-level hitting coach.

They also hired Daniel Bard in a newly created player mentor position.

What was the reasoning for Martinez to the Canadian HoF? A former colleague was quite offended that I was familiar with that HoF. ( his grandfather was a member though).
I think its: Play for a baseball team in Canada

"Each of this year's inductees has had a tremendous influence on baseball in this country," Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame director of operations Scott Crawford said. "Pedro Martinez and Lloyd Moseby are two of the most successful and beloved stars to have played for Major League teams in Canada, and Bill Humber's commitment to promoting the history of the game in this country has been unparalleled."

As a Canadian that followed the Expos closely growing up, it was Pedro that I fell in love with. A lot of Red Sox fans may claim Pedro is their guy, but he was the reason I became a Red Sox fan after he was traded. Well deserved induction into our HoF.

I met Peavy at a party at his place in San Fran while he was with the Giants. He was very friendly and courteous. If anyone deserves a break it is he.

I see it everyday on a much smaller financial scale. Bad finances ending in divorce.

I hope he ends up in a good place but that story was short on details. The guys got ripped off but also has a duck boat in the shed.

Tuukka's refugee camp
He says he has plenty of money (per Peavy...just bought a block of building in Alabama), just a lot less than he earned and deserves because of a scam artist.

Lots of interesting updates in this MassLive piece:

Dice K is still pitching in Japan.
Buchholz is still unsigned. I'd like the Red Sox to offer him a minor league deal, in case we have a starter get hurt.
Koji is unsigned but wants to pitch. He struggled last season but still had a 105 ERA+ in 43 innings. I love Koji.
Napoli is still unsigned.
Salty is trying to play again and is in the free agent training camp.
Big Lack is still unsigned.
Felix Doubront signed in Korea.
Lars Anderson signed in Australia.

I wonder if the 2013 team still good enough in 2018 to win the 2018 WS?

Indicative of Japan's lack of angst regarding pace of play?

Buchholz is still unsigned.
Indicative of every GM's concern regarding quality of play?

Koji is unsigned but wants to pitch. I love Koji.
Indicative of our shared fondness for the brilliance of his of 2013 work!

Napoli is still unsigned.
Indicative of the too many parties at Napoli's?

Salty is trying to play again and is in the free agent training camp.
Sadly, "trying" may be the operative word here.

Big Lack is still unsigned.
Personality and charm will only take you so far.

#Phillies 3B Will Middlebrooks injured colliding with another player on fly ball in LF. Looks like he hurt left leg. Looks serious. Paramedic tripped and fell over him while Middlesbrooks was getting an aircast placed around his leg

Mike Napoli is back with the Indians… sorta.

It's a minor league deal, and they made it clear before he signed that barring an Encarnacion/Alonso injury, he won't make the team. This is Tito extending a mutual benefit agreement. Napoli will serve as mentor/coach in March while showcasing what he can still do at the plate for other teams that might be interested.

Worst case scenario for the Indians means I at least get some use out of my "Party at Napoli's" T-shirt again.

This is how Jon Lester plans to throw to first base from now on (seriously):

This is still so odd to me. Did it start when he went to the Cubs, or did it somehow stay a secret the whole time he was on the Red Sox?

I meant the whole throwing problem itself. I totally don't remember it being a thing when he was in Boston.

It wasn't a problem earlier in his career, but we were aware it had become one at least by his last season here.
