He also signed a 2 year, $19 million extension. He got his money after all these years and I couldn't be happier for him.
What's so cool is that it almost feels like someone put 2011 Bard into a time capsule and sent him off into some alternate timeline, only to get merged back into this one in 2020. This graph says it all, IMO:
56095
The Bard we saw in 2012 and 2013 was a shell of his former self and, as a result <poof> he was out of baseball. But then he was back and <egad!> he's rediscovered the fastball velocity he had from ages 24-26 in his age 35-37. Father time is probably his biggest enemy right now, so I don't thikn we can expect him to pitch like this for much longer, but it would be very, very cool if he could stretch this out another 2-3 seasons.

Old friends Craig Kimbrel and David Price were left off the NLDS roster by the Dodgers.

Eduardo Nunez has announced that he is retiring from baseball.
The only All-Star with a lower career WAR was Myril Hoag.

To Eduardo's credit, he was a pretty good hitter for a while (hit .296/.332/.443 from 2015-17, along with 72 steals on 93 attempts).

I wasn't sure where you were going with this, but looking him up, 0.2b career WAR. That surprised me a lot. Made around $18M overall

Loved him in the 2018 playoffs, especially the games mentioned above, like the 3 times he appeared to kill himself

This was by far my favourite game of that World Series. Nunez almost killed himself in the loss. Eovaldi pitched his heart out and saved the bullpen. It was such an amazing game

Also, fuck Ian Kinsler. That guy sucks

OMG I completely forgot most of that. He did almost kill himself – about three times. And then, he headbutted Porcello in the dugout and looked like he chipped one of the latter’s teeth.

Epic Dirt Dawg performance.

Okay cool couple days ahead for me...every year I get to work with The Shane Victorino Foundation here on Maui. Cocktails, dinner tonight and golf tournament tomorrow. There are always the group of celebrities and former MLB players every year.

Pedey is in the house!!!!!!! Dustin Pedroia is here with his wife for the weekend festivities. They have a great auction of baseball memorabilia too and I always grab a few things. It's always a lot of fun but to hang and chat with Pedroia is going to be the coolest!! What should I ask him about?

Just tell him that I love him. He was the first person younger than me that I looked up too
My biggest hope is that my youngest decides to play like Pedey in any sport he plays

I know right? I try to keep that part of where I live on the down low and rarely mention it. :D

But Pedoria in a relaxed environment. Pretty cool!
I keep meaning to ask this of you and @Sprowl , but if you ever need someone to come live on your land and take care of plants or something without being paid, don't hesitate to call.

Is Victorino shorter than Pedey?
FWIW, Baseball Reference lists both of them at 5' 9". I suspect Pedey is really the shorter of the two and the photos above are shot from slightly different perspectives and/or they're not standing on perfectly level ground.

They are both short but Pedey is definitely the shorter of the two.

Renfroe is one of those guys who looks better playing for another team than your own. The homers and arm are sexy, but the poor at bats and overall defense drag the value of the good things down a lot.

Eh, let’s see what the Sox OF ends up looking like.
It's possible to do worse than him, as the Red Sox proved, but it's not too hard to do better. He has a career .300 OBP and strikes out in almost 26% of his plate appearances. The power is nice, but it's his only offensive skill.

It was clever for the Angels to pick him up, though. He looks enough like Mike Trout that they could try to send Trout up to hit for him wearing a Renfroe uniform. It worked for the Killer Bees in the 1980s WWF, why not the Angels?

Great story.
I don't know how to find it now, but the quotes from his DUI were amazing and showed that he really and truly is an idiot.
Yeah, I pulled them this am and watched the body cam footage of his arrest. It def. looked like more than "three beers" based on his answer when the cops asked him if he'd been drinking (stumble, "... a little bit."). He also talked about "Blue Lives Matter" and said they were just arresting him because he was a Trump supporter (which to the cops' credit, they flatly denied).

But I kind of appreciate that Grossfeld didn't delve into all that. The guy is an ex-athlete not a prophet and it's fine to judge people on those terms from time to time.

Damon's a moron with a good heart. I'm glad Grossfeld didn't write a "portrait of a moron." Besides, any sentient reader knows that a .30 BAC is more than "three beers." Grossfeld practiced "showing, not telling," which is what a good writer does.
