People may have started to notice an influx of posts with links that lead directly to central.sonsofsamhorn.net. Thus far, there have been four threads started.

Confidence: The Monday Night Preview

The Importance of Week One

Understanding Offensive Personnel Packages

Thoughts on the ACL – Rob Gronkowski, Jake Ballard, and Adrian Peterson’s “Baby Knee”

Each one of these articles provide deep dives into focused areas of the football medium. In these particular cases, the focus is gambling, advanced statistics, offensive schemes, and football injuries. This is the start of "Football Central", a project taken on by a handful of SoSHer's dedicated to discussing football on a deeper and more meaningful level.

The members who frequent this forum have done a great job of creating content that is engaging and captivating, more so than nearly any other NFL site on the web today. They've also done yeoman's work while scouring the internet for knowledgeable articles worth discussing and analyzing. The site has continued to push the envelope of advanced discussion by bringing in journalists, statisticians, and media pundits to discuss the Patriots and the NFL. These things have pushed "Blinded by the Lombardi's" to be a thought leader on football knowledge. It has driven fans, media, and industry contributors to our door.

Enter Football Central.

The internet, as we all know, has radically increased the speed at which we share information. Weekend wrap-ups of all the weekend games appearing on Mondays, generally by a single writer, has become a staple of football reporting in the internet age. The effect this has had on our understanding of events, though, is at best dubious. Opinions can be shared in an instant. Insight and understanding, however, proceed at their own pace. When nationally known sports commentators tell you that they love the Red Zone channel, they are telling you something loud and clear: they are not watching the games.

One thing can be known for certain about these weekend summaries: the author did not watch all of these games. Yet said author still feels like he has something to say about these games. A football game is a progression, a narrative, one which follows a path characterized by evolving strategy and tactics that cannot be encapsulated by a box score and a hand-full of highlights. We believe that our readers will understand our eschewal of such “instant reaction” pieces as not a failure to deliver information, but a refusal to deliver mere content at the expense of substance in our effort to honor our commitment to offer superior discussion of NFL football.

We have a stable of writers who's sole purpose is to create thought-provoking content. We have a dedicated staff of editors who spend hours cutting up pieces, driving deadlines, and pushing more out of their writers. We have daily content being cultivated to continually ensure the people visiting the site have something interesting and unique to read every day. We are looking to advance the conversation that takes place around the television on Sunday's.

And we're always looking for more help.

The foundation of this project was to drive thoughtful and engaging content that is scarce and hidden on the internet. While cultivating contributors from this website, there were many, many brilliant writers that we couldn't reach out to. There are posts in this forum from as recently as the last few days that could be brilliant long form articles. We have the staff to help you grow these pieces into something unique and awesome.

So, if you have ideas and posts that you are looking to make that you think would be good features on Football Central, reach out to us! We'd love to add to our staff and bring in some more talented writers!

You can reach out to us by sending us an email: SoSHFootball@gmail.com

or you can message any of editors for more details: soxfan121, mabrowndog, Reverend

We really hope you enjoy the site. We're going to continue pouring our efforts and passion into each article. If you have any comments or questions, please direct them to myself or one of our editors, or towards the email address listed above.

The only thing I could contribute is an opinion piece and everyone knows my opinion sucks. So unless you want a Stephen A. Smith level of talent on your team, I can't contribute.

All kidding aside, I have appreciated reading the material posted so far. I may not always agree with some of the things posted or said in BBtL or the individual contributors, but this is a great project and I look forward to seeing it grow.

Ahem. The proper formatting is soxfan121 and mabrowndog. One out of three only gets you to the Hall of Fame in baseball.

Nothing to add other than we are excited to see what people can do. If you have an idea or find yourself on paragraph three, think "do I want to publish this?" and send me an email. Always happy to help.

If you ever post an article breaking down run/pass percentages in particular games... please take the extra step of actually analyzing the specific game situations (down, distance, score) and highlight particular drives.

One of my big pet peeves with football reporting and discussion is when people start ripping an offensive coordinator for poor play calling (ie.  the run was working in the 1st half, but then he only called 10 run in the 2nd) - while completely ignoring specific things going on in the game.

While I have very little interest in football these days, I love seeing sosh grow and hope that if this is successful we might see similar expansions in other areas. Seeing Blacken and Syd writing about video games, for example, is always must read for me and I imagine sosh could build an audience in that corner of the internet with them (and a number of other posters) sharing their insights.

Sosh has a lot of insightful, articulate people and is one of the best catch-all sites on the net because of that. If the day comes where we can find a topic we don't have at least one poster capable of speaking about with some actual authority, I will be very surprised.

Best of luck with this.

The webpage at http://central.sonsofsamhorn.net/ADMIN_VALIDATION has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.

Works just fine in latest firefox and IE11 for me.  Saw a number of people reporting errors in the individual threads, thought this might help.

PS... awesome stuff, thanks for doing it!

Please note that if you comment in one of the threads that introduce the article on "Football Central" (current name for the new site), it immediately gets posted on both FC and BbtL.

So your participation would be greatly appreciated!

I read the personel packages and the importance of week 1 and both articles were fantastic. You guys do some good work here, but over there really was exceptional. Especially as someone who reads more than posts due to time constraints (except for gamethreads) I appreciate this type of deep analysis even more. Does this site increase the 18% ?

Weird request, I also read your bios, but since I dont know any of you personally, can you associate handles with the bios? Just curiosity to see how peoples comments / insights here match with the website stuff.

I've got nothing to add except awesome stuff.

I go back a long way at BBTL and have always felt that this forum got a bad rap.  It is great to see the level of analysis and football knowledge that some of our regular posters bring to the table.

I'd love to contribute but sadly am way out of my depth with you guys when it comes to football knowledge.  Great, great work.

Yeah - just want to add to the chorus of praise.  Fantastic work so far guys.  I've been swamped at work and haven't had the chance to read each article in as much depth as they deserve, but I'm planning on going back and rereading a few of them for just that reason.

Keep it up!

I just sent mascho a message that his article on the aminnesota defense prepped me for watching the game more than any other Pats-related article in recent memory.

I'm honestly not even being a provincial homer, it is awesome by as fair standards as I can apply to something generated by one of us

Yeah, I feel the same way. I used to think I "knew" the game. Uh, no. NOW, I feel like I know the game. Reading Schofield or Archibald or Safko and getting such a clear, knowledgeable view of the game has been eye-opening.

I watched the video clip for the Offensive Play of the Week piece probably twenty-five times (tech issue, I'm not that insane) and then there was a question in the thread here after publication about the safety's decision to not double Gronk, and Schofield pointed out that pre-snap the safety is looking at Edelman TWICE and that accounts for why he went there instead of following Gronk. Archibald broke down coverages better than anyone short of Matt Bowen - and he was an actual NFL safety. And the OL piece makes talk radio and casual, uninformed opinions infuriating; Ross threw away all the ink and air spilled elsewhere on the OL this week and replaced it with credible, truly-expert analysis.

And that' just a few of the nearly twenty pieces published this week. It is truly remarkable work and everyone writing for FC is bringing their A+ game.

Compare what the VOLUNTEER staff at FC pulled together about Minnesota's backup RBs...then go find something better from a site with "professional" writers. Seriously. If you find something, put it side-by-side with what FC did.

Where are you getting your Patriots/football analysis? Why are you going anywhere else?

The breakdowns are extremely well done. The layout is great and the content and information are top shelf. Thank you for putting this together. You've got another avid reader here.

This is awesome stuff. My one minor gripe is that the comments/to posts loop thing is pretty confusing for me.

Cool--can you tell us more about this.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "loop" thing, but I know people have expressed confusion about commenting. Basically, people should go at it as they did before, just now some of the threads in BbtLs have much more extensive or deeper opening posts.

The FootballCentral component is an attempt to extend the existing football conversation occurring here, not to displace it. Now, though, it seems a bit like FootballCentral has gussied the place up and a lot of posters are acting a bit like it's Prom and everyone's all dressed up and don't know how to act with everyone looking so good and nobody's spiked the punch yet. Or something.*

It's good to look good, but I think I would not be alone in being very disappointed if this somehow displaced the passing of notes, pulling of pigtails and crabapple fights of the years preceding the big dance.

So hopefully people will get used to it and go at it as always. There's not much new here except better use of video and .gifs, there's just more of it and it's better. So at ease, people: Let's dance--shit's supposed to be fun, yo.

*Or so I imagine. I didn't go to my prom, but instead went to a Pawtucket Red Sox game and had pizza and wings at the Red Wing afterwards.

If I understand correctly, posts starting with links to football central should go to both places right?  So that part is easy.

My confusion stemmed from
--Duplicate topics, particularly the gamethread.  Is there a need for two separate gamethreads or should they just be merged into one that links to the new site?  Its easy enough to just choose one and abandon the other one during the game, but not sure that's ideal for anyone if they're just both gamethreads.  If there are different content parameters for each one, that's cool too, would just like to know what goes where, but its not totally apparent to me why the SOSH gamethread can't just be linked like the threads that begin with a link to an article.
--Soxfan's post that we should be discussing the 2014 Pats pass defense in the pass defense primer.  Should we just be discussing all things related to pass defense on the football central site?  In that case, what content is actually still appropriate for the standard forum since there is a wide range of content discussed on the new site?  Or should we view these as simply separate discussions like they would be if there was a topic discussed here and discussed on footballoutsiders?

In some ways good content is good content, but as a user who is interested in the commentary of authors on the new site that post both here and on the new site, Id be much happier to not have to read and respond to two separate threads on the same topic.

Thanks for the questions. We're itching to talk about this stuff.

Personally - and most of your questions are for Nip/Ross/James/Mark/Mark/Dave/John/Kostya/Chris/Chuck/Jeff to weigh in on - I am desperate to have people read and talk about the site content. I am biased, but it exceeds most everything else on the net; the fact that ESPNBoston's Patriots Blog published ONE SENTENCE about Matt Asiata in their "Peterson Out" press release, while we had THREE VIDEOS and a full breakdown posted is remarkable

I've been a SoSH'er for more than a decade; the same things come up over and over again. Like "what if SoSH had a radio program / had a press credential / had a professional blog / had a wiki / had all the brilliant writers doing something focused / were the media"? Several attempts have been made, some more successful than others. Nip and Dog have been at the heart of all or almost all of them. The idea being that SoSH has some incredible talent posting and thinking in these forums, everyday. Let's do it right.

So, I saw "pass defense", never thought "this is a thread about Pats pass defense" and posted a link and my frustration leaked out. Because I think that article is brilliant. You can use it to introduce your girlfriend to football; you can use it to ID coverages from All-22 film. It is a true masterpiece in reference writing. It teaches without preaching, it explains complex concepts in easy-to-understand, concise language.

We (the collective group) thought about how this was going to "go over" in BBtL. Nip, steady hand that he is, is convinced that we'll figure it out as a community. That we (Football Central) just need to produce great content and that "the power of SoSH" will take over and help figure out what it will become.

So...to those sending in "site's broken!" messages - thank you.
To those reading - thank you.
To those sending a link to an FC article by twitter or facebook - thank you.
To those discussing the articles or discussing HOW to discuss the articles - thank you.

Personally, I got involved here because SoSH has, for a good long time now, been my neighborhood bar. Where everybody knows my name. And while not everyone is always glad I came, SoSH is important to my life. Giving back - we're all volunteers and/or indebted to Nip - by helping build "the future" is an honor.

So - the other guys will have better, more specific answer to your questions Stitch. Personally, I just want to say thank you for caring enough to ask questions. This is your project too. FC does not exist without you and all the participants in the forum. So tell us what we can do to make it work for you.

I'll comment about the comments because that's what I do :)

Comments from here sync there and vice versa.  You can comment on articles here like you always have and never leave this ecosystem.  If you happen to go directly to central.sonsofsamhorn.net and comment there, well, the end results will be exactly the same - both comments will be in both places.

The 2nd game thread this weekend was my mistake.  We should have just had one, but I wasn't around and I voiced up that I'd like to sync a game thread to see what happened under relatively severe load.  In reality it could have been the regular weekly game thread, without reference to either site, and it would have synced without people here even knowing that it was occurring.

So to elaborate more on this. I think it's a UX type thing for me. So for example, earlier today, I read DRS' great post about Achilles injuries. However, the thread here was basically just a link, so I navigated to the site. Read the article. Had a question for him about it, so then switched back to this thread and posted it here. However, the comment I made in the thread here is now also visible on the site. So as a member of this forum it feels somewhat clunky to be navigating between the two. I understand about wanting to drive traffic to the site, makes perfect sense, but I don't know if it would be more prudent after some time to actually have the full article also posted in the opening post rather than just a link.

Brings to mind, what happens for those people who aren't members here? What happens to their comments? Are they still replicated into the thread here?

Anyway, this really is a pretty small comment, can't even call it a complaint, and the articles thus far are really great and fascinating to read so I fully support the site.

You don't have to navigate between the two. If you want to comment on the thread you van do it on the central side - you automatically logged in over there.

Or if you like to use sosh's interface , mobile interface or whatever then do it here.

Expect LOTS of improvements to the FC side as that platform is much more extensible (and green field) than this one is

One suggestion, can we make the comments over there go top down in reverse chronological order (oldest at top) so that they match the thread experience here? So for DRS's achilles article, it's weird to see DOTB's first comment at the top of the SoSH thread but the bottom of the FC article comments, if that makes sense.

I was actually just coming into the thread to post this. Reverse chron comments make sense on a site that expects comments to all relate to and respond to the article. Most recent = most relevant given other news or happenings. Comments on this site are actually discussions being engaged in, where people are quoting and responding to one another - best read in chronological order I think.

I agree completely.  Reverse chron discourages discussions much beyond direct comments on the article.

I'm getting this error in Chrome as well, though clearing cookies didn't help.  Is it just me/my work computer?

I've enjoyed what has been posted so far and have been sharing with friends who aren't on SoSH.  Keep it up!

Edit: I just tried opening an incognito window and that worked just fine.  I'm guessing this is a work computer issue.

No, YOU keep it up! Thanks for sending it far and wide, the single best thing anyone can do to support the project.

Just vanilla WordPress with some back end and UI customization. Fortunately we've been able to keep it relatively simple thus far.

UI fine point - text wrapping (responsiveness) isn't working on the author bios so on a small screen they run off the right side and can't be read. Taking a gander at the page source I suspect this stems from the fact that not just the author's name but all the text is bounded by H1 tags, though there also are so many DIV wrappers I can't be sure if something might have been left unclosed.

Author Bios on the bottom of articles?
