So, the Celtics and their G-league affiliate have decided not to participate in (at least the first half) of the G-league bubble. Given that 2 ways can be active for 50 (of the 72 games), and the anticipation of more load management games, Covid protocols, and the like - it isn't too surprising. It's a little unfortunate that someone like Tacko won't get an opportunity to play 20 minutes in games regularly - because he really needs more basketball experience. But, it is what it is.

Teams have to pay $500,000 entry fee to participate. That plus player salaries with no offsetting revenue for players who are unlikely ever to make a NBA roster seems like a lot.

This article - https://www.outkick.com/nba-setting-up-bubble-for-g-league-at-500k-per-team/ - says that MIA, LAL, and BOS, are among the teams not participating, which makes sense since their rosters are full. DET too. (NOTE: I don't know how accurate this website is.)

Considering how many NBA rotation players have come out of the G/D League, a $500k investment doesn’t seem too unreasonable.

But, not being able to pull players in and out on a game by game basis is a huge negative for teams like the Celtics.

Red Claw looks pissed that he’s now green and being referred to as a “Celtic.”

What does a lobster have to do with Celtics?

What was wrong with the Red Claws?

Why would you rebrand like this?
They probably would have completed this rebranding sooner if not for Covid. It only makes sense once they purchased the team a couple years ago that they would brand accordingly.

I mean if you ask me they still haven't completed rebranding since theres a green lobster on the logo for some reason

I was hoping they would relocate the Red Claws to somewhere more central in New England. Looks like that is not happening now.

Edit - my pipe dream was in Springfield MA across the way from the Hall of Fame

I guess I prefer the green (aka alive) lobster over the old Maine license plates that existed when I was a kid. Which featured a bright red, clearly cooked lobster.

And I do think rebranding to the Maine Celtics is smart from a marketing perspective. But the current logo is an odd mish-mash, something you'd expect to emerge from a "name that team!" artistic competition among 3rd graders.

Maine Green Claws seems like the proper compromise. Too late now.
