Game 2: Celtics vs. Raptors: "They don't look very scary. More like a six foot turkey!"

Let’s go grab a commanding 2-0 lead and head back to Bost...the same arena

The bigger issue is not whether this or that official is put on certain games. It's that there are too many who fall in the category of godawful and are always around in the playoffs nonetheless. Brothers, Foster, and Davis being the ringleaders.

I think the bigger issue is that fans can name referees who's presence/participation are part of an identifiable pattern. YMMV

So what adjustments do you think we'll see in game 2? Will T give Smart the open shots again, and hope he regresses? I'd look for Toronto to come out with max pressure and try to up the turnover count even higher so they can get out and run.

Precisely. Since it’s inevitable some of those guys are going to ref every series I’d actually prefer to get them out of the way early and not have them be reffing a pivotal Game 5, 6, or 7. Although I guess there’s nothing preventing a ref from officiating more than one game in a given series? The whole assignment process is hopelessly opaque.

FWIW, "Home" teams were 23-17 in the first round of games in the NBA.

NHL "home" teams have a significant losing record
I bet some of the NHL issue is that they kind of jumbled up the seeding with the way teams came back---so you could have better teams listed as road teams in game 1 and 2.

Yeah I think Brothers is just kind of aloof compared to those two.
Last time the playoffs rolled around, I remember hearing the stat that the Celtics were 0-9 in the playoffs when Brothers refereed. When a team has a winning record in the playoffs, but is 0-9 with a particular referee... at what point does it go beyond coincidence?

IIRC we heard this earlier this year before a game he was doing, and then the C's went out and won anyway. It's a whole new Tony.

Raptors are 14-1 in recent playoff games refereed by Tony Brothers. Regardless, please win.

First lead of the series for Toronto doesn't last long. Smart!

Did the announcers just say that one of the reasons the Raptors were so bad on Sunday that they were so depressed?

Apparently, the Raptors have "heavier hearts" than the Celtics, that's why they played so poorly in Game 1. That's the kind of insight that only ESPN can provide.

Let's see a replay of this Smart foul. It looked like he stepped forward faking a drive and pulled back and the Tor guy just fell down

If I could have a drink for every time Doris Burke says the Raptors have “championship pedigree” this series I’ll be in the gutter by 7.
