It's not on NBA TV but a different channel. On Verizon which I have it's called either called NBA Basketball 2 or NBA Channel-2. It comes up as NBAMLS2. It's on channel hd 1451 for those of you who have Verizon. I'm sure those of you with Comcast or Cox or Direct TV can search it. The black and white feed is very good surprisingly. I think it was ABC who did it then. I'm loving it. See if we can guess how many HOFamers played in this game and NBA all stars. And future coaches and GM's? The announcers name is Bob Wolf. I think he did a lot of New York sports teams and others. Check it out. It's Cousy's last game also.

The 1963 Celtics had 8 Hall of Fame players (Russell, Havlicek, Cousy, Sanders, Heinsohn, KC Jones, Sam Jones, Frank Ramsey and Clyde Lovellette.) Lovellette had a reputation in St. Louis for being a racist and not meshing well with black players, so it is kind of surprising he played his last few season with Boston.

Wolf is in the Guiness book of world records for longest career as a broadcaster. 78 years. He did Larsen's perfect game, the 1958 Colts-Giants title game and was the voice of MSG for 26 years. He was also a reporter for ch.12 in New York. And can you guess what young guard in this game went on to help another team win an NBA title in the early 70's? Don't cheat, LOL.

K.C's in the Hall of Fame? Did not know that.Or Ramsay. What about the Laker players in Hofame?

Ok the channel is NBA League Pass. They're giving it free for the Corona Virus I guess. They took it off after that game. Now it's only advertisement for the schedule and music in the backround.

Things I observed:

Russell on free throws launches the ball with one hand -- reminds me of Anthony Mason.

Heinsohn lines up off center when he shoots his free throws.

Frank Selvy just chucks up a shot whenever the ball gets near him. Just a conscienceless gunner—on a team with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor.

West is one of the players whose moves look modern to me -- he did a nice crossover followed by a finger roll that you could see in today’s NBA. Meanwhile Cousy, for all my love for him as a broadcaster, looks primitive -- he dribbles very high and right in front of his body (how did he not have more turnovers?), he shoots flat-footed and off balance, and even though he had some nifty passes, he has some had some out-of-control moments. And yet he was effective.

I am surprised at the lack of patience for setting up the low post. Almost every play is a high-post pick that ends with a midrange "jumper" (to the extent they jump at all). Only a few times does Russell get deep with his back to the basket and try to post up, and that was for a big, sweeping hook.

Sam Jones looks very quick, but West put him in the torture chamber a few times, killing him with a turnaround.

Auerbach from the bench at one point calls out for the defense to sag (the play-by-play guy mentions it) and all of a sudden Cousy and Sam Jones blitz the ball handler and cause a turnover --- Red being crafty!

It is surprising how quick each possession is -- no need for a shot clock-- a ten second possession was the norm. Halftime score 66-52!

Heinsohn got lots of his points on 15 footers. Twice when he drove he was called for offensive fouls that would be defensive fouls in 2020.

Havlicek gets a cut and is bleeding they don’t stop play.

Russell has no respect for the shooting of the Laker big men. He leaves Wiley and Krebs wide open for short jumpers and hangs by the basket, ready to cut off any drives. No way you'd get away with that defense today. Of course, Wiley and Krebs both throw up bricks when left unguarded, so Russell knew his business. In one possession Russell obliterates a West layup attempt by lying in wait under the basket. West beats his man but Russ is right there.

I never heard of Rudy LaRusso, but he was killing the Celtics from the wing.

Balding, pot-bellied Clyde Lovellette doesn’t play in the game, but I spotted him in the huddle during a timeout. He looks like he's there for an over-50 YMCA league.

Class move by the Laker fans to give Cousy an ovation – his last game in the NBA.

Elgin Baylor with a huge dunk in the middle of the 4th – the man was fast and strong. I think it is the only dunk of the game.

Dick Bennett (whom I associate with the Knicks) really hurts the Lakers in the end. They were coming back had closed within one point, and Bennett travels, giving up the ball, then commits a needless foul as the Celts come up the court. A potential four-point swing and the Lakers were never were able to close.

With about three minutes left, Baylor misses a jumper, and the rebound pops up, dropping through the basket. The officials don’t award the basket to anyone, and the commentator notes it will be recorded in the box score as a “no-player basket.” Yet the official stats show all 109 Laker points are credited to the various players. So after the game did someone look at the film and award that stray basket?

Heinsohn gets a huge offensive rebound to seal the game.

The play-by-play man calls a free throw a “penalty shot” a couple of times.

Red in the postgame – “God almighty, wonderful!” “I’m gonna tell you something – I hope everybody that’s been writing about those Lakers, and the fact that we were dead, I hope they know who won the world championship…”

That looked like the basketball equivalent of an "own goal" to me, I think Heinsohn or whoever it was who contested the rebound ended up tipping it back towards his side of the play and in fact tipped it all the way to and into the basket.

And yeah, out of everyone out there, only West and Russell (and maybe Baylor) looked like they'd belong on an NBA court today.

Sorry to correct you, It's Dick Barnett. He formed a great backcourt with Walt Frazier to help the Knicks win in 1970. I don't know if he was gone when they won in 73 when Earl Monroe was added the year before or was just a bench player. He was the answer to my other trivia question. I always associate Earl the Pearl with the Bullets more then the Knicks. They had some damn good team in 69 and 70. Just couldn't beat the Knicks. In 69 Gus Johnson one of their best players went down in February or March and missed the rest of the year. They still finished with the best record anyway at 57-25. Got swept by the Knicks, all pretty close games I believe. Then the Celtics barely got by the Knicks in 6 and of course beat the Lakers in 7 as an unusual underdog to them for the first time. Who knows what could have changed if Johnson didn't get hurt. It had to hurt the Bullets. They took that great Knicks team in 70 to 7 games in the first round. And I think the Knicks beat Kareem and Lucius Allen etc...in only 5 games in the next round?? ECF. Maybe 6. Then the Bucks were moved to the west in the 70-71 season after Portland and Cleveland were added in expansion. And won the title of course.

Cracking a beer to celebrate Ring #6! I remember listening to this game on my transistor late at night.

Numerous blocks by Russell.
An unusual off game for Sam, but he hit a huge bucket from the key in the last minute.
4 clutch FTs by Tommy all with under a minute. He doesn't wait around at the line. Just flicks it in one handed with that snarl of his.
Satch also with some good minutes down the stretch, and 'holding' Baylor to 28 pts, only 9 in the first half.
As for Cooz, I could not believe that left handed hook off the glass from 20 feet out!
