Carolina broadcast showed it, he jabs at him with his stick... a probing jab that happens all the time... and it was called a double minor spear...

For someone who is not watching every minute of this series, what is going on with how pitiful they look in Carolina versus Boston?

My belief is that a big part of it is that CAR has one of the few guys that can nullify 37 in the faceoff circle in Staal, and at home they can make sure he's taking the drop every time.

Last change is a factor. Brind'Amour is playing Staal against Bergeron whenever he has the chance, and that's affected Bergeron's faceoff ability pretty significantly and thus the Bruins' overall possession. I think he's also able to target some of the softer underbelly of the Bruins (e.g. 4th line in the d-zone).

Otherwise I think it's a coincidence. The Canes got the first goal in every game in this series until tonight. In the Boston games the Bruins were able to respond pretty quickly and get it back even. In Carolina the Canes were able to build their lead and play their game.

The last change and Staal is obviously an issue, but it is hard to imagine it is this much of a swing. I kept thinking tonight that there were relatively few stoppages to see the impact of this issue.

FWIW the Bruins also came out tonight ready to make some hits. Maybe continuing on that path would help.

Would be nice to see the Bruins score first in Raleigh... as the Canes are a different team when down... still dangerous, but not as dangerous as they are with a lead...

The refs were fine tonight, until this. I can understand the usual "knock it off" Unsportsmanlike to just curb any late game chippiness, but this is an egregious call.
Yeah I’m with you there. When I heard spearing I shit myself but feel much better now.

It was funny to hear everyone lose their shit on every penalty. Then it’s on the Jumbotron and there’s the “OOOOOHHHHHHH!” when it’s clear Haula stuck the guy in the neck. Only egregious miss I recall was the holding on Marchand in the first bit they let a few other things go.

That and the lady behind me yelling “Shoot” when Marchand’s on his backhand under the dots then when I say “Now” when he gets it to Pasta shoots it and it gets to Coyle. Luck on my end but found it funny.

I thought Swayman wasn’t very good IMO. Didn’t have to do much but got saved by three posts, twice on the same PP where the puck defied physics in the second then when he didn’t hug the post a few seconds later. There was another one in the third too. Not that he was bad, per se, but he wasn’t gonna steal a game tonight.

Liked Reilly’s game, especially when he got low in the O zone. Was cool to see how pumped everyone was when Forbort scored. They eeem to like him. 3rd line was invisible outside of being hemmed in their own zone and Frederic looking lost when he was on the 5-on-4. My favorite was the Foligno experience in 10 seconds - got the puck, tripped over the blue line, dumped it in, hit the Dman, and lost his stick when hitting him. Felt like as good a summation as any.

Skej seemed to be laboring a few times. Slavin and Staal are large, thiccc boys.

This series does parallel the 2011 SCF: Bs open on the road and both teams win their home games . . . until game 7.

Three Game 7s tomorrow.

Bs/Fake Whalers @ 4:30 pm ET.
Toronto/TB @ 7:00 pm ET.
Oilers/ LA @ 10:00 pm ET.

That's a helluva stretch of hockey.

The only difference was the Bruins were highly competitive in the first 3 games in Vancouver. But, fuck it, all they gotta do is score first. Same as 2011. Carolina is a much different team playing behind. The ice opens up, and that favors Boston.

Also, looking back, the Bruins outscored the Canucks 23-8 that series lol. Gotta be the most lopsided 7-game series.

Pondering a 3 hour drive down to Raleigh. Tickets around $140.

Folks beating me to the punch on the 2011 SCF references. Here's a fun fact: do you remember the final score of Game 6? :)

I've been thinking about 2011 a lot since the B's won G3/4. However, the Bs played very well in Vancouver and just destroyed the Canucks at home. Seems like the reverse here. I'm pleasantly surprised we got a G7 after the first 2 games in Raleigh. I have no idea what to expect but I agree: The first goal tomorrow is huge. 4:30 start? I feel like that may help but wonder w/r/t to the legs of Bergy/Marshy. McAvoy still not 100% to my eye either- although he played a gutsy game last night.

Also had to remind myself that the 2011 squad lost the first 2 AT HOME to the Habs before winning in 7.

I'm all for a 2011 redux so long as the result is the same.
Also contemplating a trip to Raleigh. Are tix really $140? - that seems really low.

Between here and everywhere.
I went to Game 4 in Raleigh when the Bruins swept in '18. The drive from NoVa ain't bad, and area around the rink is pretty awesome. They tailgate outside before/after games, and the fans are pretty accomodating.

I would definitely have gone down for this one, if I didn't have obligaitons already this weekend.

Was reading the thread and was inspired, Pierce and I will be in the building tomorrow in full gear and loud as hell. We won the Cup the year he was born (2011) and the last game he went to, we beat Columbus in 2019 in thrilling fashion at the Garden. Would be happy to meet up with any Sosh’ers heading down, it’s all love. LFG!!!!
