just got home from work, post-work cocktails, and pass out on co-workers couch. what an amazing night. the energy was unbelievable from jump. my bartender spilled half a bottle of red wine down his leg before the puck dropped. we had the whole bar believing his red sock would propel us to victory. i wish i didn't have to work last night, but that said, i don't think i've ever had that much fun at work in my life (and i worked game 7 of the 2004 alcs, police run-in ruined that one for me). anyhow, i have thoroughly enjoyed the game threads throughout the playoffs and wanted to thank everyone here for a great ride. cheers.

The Tim Thomas haterz are still unrelenting.
Their battle cry has become: yeah, well, he'd get SO exposed in 'another system'. It amazes me that people still bust this guy's balls. He's won two fuckin' Vezinas, a Conn Smythe and a Cup. No shit their great D helps him...but he also bails them out just as much.
EDIT - It's almost like it's incomprehensible to people that a guy with his pedigree could become the best goalie in the league. It's really the same bullshit we've heard for years about Tom Brady.

I've enjoyed lurking (but not posting) on SOSH for a number of years now, ever since another MA Ex-pat let me know about this site. I, like many of you, grew up watching Redsox, Celtics and Bruins games in Fenway and the Gahden, watching WSBK and listening to games on AM radio. My deep-seated love for all Boston teams has survived moves to Texas and (for longer now than I lived in MA) North Carolina. I didn't post after the Sox won it all, or the Celtics, or the 2[sup]nd[/sup] Patriots championship. But this time it's different. While the Sox are my all-time favorite, I too remember pond hockey, local rinks, college hockey and the decibel level in the Garden. Riding the T to the Garden and Fenway always felt different than other trips – you could tell that people were ready for greatness and willing to wait for as long as it took. I was alive, but do not remember the '72 Cup. 2004 vindicated and liberated thousands of us who root for Boston teams from out of state and provided a stronger link back home. 2011 is different because the pink hats haven't figured out the way to the rink – Bruins hockey, like pre-'04 Redsox baseball, is for true believers.
I'm posting in this thread because SOSH makes me feel like I'm home, and watching the Bruins playoff run has, even more than the other local championships, allowed me to stay connected to a place where now I only visit. My son is nine and he has not grown up with the angst, the passion and the highs and lows of my generation of sports fans. His version of the teams that I love is one where all of them make it to the top, and believing is rewarded (in an almost instant gratification kind of way). Someone upthread stated that this playoff run has allowed us all to see the sport through the eyes of a 10 year old, and that is absolutely correct. But it has also given our sons & daughters the chance to see the team and the city through the eyes of us when we were kids. My son can look on the walls of his bedroom and see my old Sox, Celts and Bruins pennants. And now, like the Sox and Celtics ones, the Bruins one means just a little bit more, and the connection between his 9 year old eyes and my childhood team is a little bit clearer.
I carried my son up to bed after watching the glorious sight of the Bruins skating around with the Cup last night, he had fallen asleep on the couch next to me as I had jumped and shouted and fought those invisible ninjas that seemed to bother so many RMPSers (note just any ninjas, these ninjas were Stanley Cup level ninjas). He was there with me when the Bruins won, just as he had been for the series before. The first thing he did this morning was turn on sportscenter, and then he ran in and woke us up to tell me that the Bruins had won the Cup. If he'd stopped to think he'd know I already witnessed the event but he's a Boston fan and he wanted to share it with the person who understood it best. And you know what, I was as excited as he was, even though I knew already – my son saying it out loud made it real all over again. And my wife, a Texan (with a long history of Astros, Rockets and Oilers lows and lows), just smiled, she knew what it meant, and how much it meant.
My wife and son and I will be in town visiting my folks this weekend, and unlike '04, I'll be in Boston to be a part of the Celebration. Brines Sporting Goods isn't around any longer so I guess City Sports will have to do, but I can't wait to get us World Champion hats to wear in Boston, and to wear at home in NC, where, like my Sox hat, it'll cause people to come up and share stories and talk about the good old days, the good new days and everything in between. And I'll wear it with pride, just like the Bruins cap I bought over Christmas last year. And my son will walk up to my dad and say "Grandpa, did you ever think this would happen? Did you watch the game? Wasn't it awesome?" And my dad will nod and smile and all will be right with the world. We are all protecting the Civic and will for years to come.

(Oh, and Recchi's connection to the Canes makes it even sweeter for me. I'm not a Whalers fan but the Canes fans actually know their hockey (contrary to some assertions on RMPS) and I've gotten a bunch of emails/texts today from friends here in the Triangle – they understand what this means, and they're happy that Recchi was a piece of the puzzle. My wife was there when the Canes brought the Cup to Duke Hospital, and while it didn't seem fair that the WhalerCanes got the cup so early on, if it helped send Recchi back to Boston I guess I'll let the Whalers ride off into the sunset and let my Canes friends be happy.)

I rarely ever post in RMPS/Bruins threads but it is always the first thing I read on SoSH. Like everyone else I am ecstatic over the Bruins winning the cup and especially for the die hards that have made this place such a fun place. Hurting and so hung over at work right now but I couldn't feel any better.
I am a total fucking zombie today. A happy zombie with a brand new Stanley Cup Champions t-shirt and hat, but a zombie nonetheless.
The only thing more impressive than Tim Thomas in the SCF is my own performance of logging exactly zero minutes of productivity today while managing to fly under the radar of management. Christ, I'm making it look easy.
I convinced myself that I wasn't feeling overly drunk when I got home last night around 1AM after spending about 4 hours at a bar, presumably because of the adrenaline. Then I woke up in the morning and questioned whether or not I should be driving to work.
Looking forward to going home and crashing but I don't even know if I could sleep right now. Keep watching highlights/replays/interviews. Productive day at work. Glad I had that bottle of champagne and some cigars to top off the evening.

Stayed away from the threads during the post season, but still lurked and read everything. This was an awesome thread, well worthy of a championship game, loved talking about the game today, and loved reading the stories about how the hardcore fans found this team years ago and can enjoy this title.
I saw the earlier note, thought about posting and didn't dare since I've been lurking in these game threads all through the playoffs and didn't want to change things up with one game to go, no matter how tempting.
I have become a bandwagon fan when it comes to hockey. I rarely watch regular season games anymore, although in the early ninties I was glued to channel 38 whenever they were on. My parents never got cable so I never got to see them in the home black uniforms unless I was over at a friend's house. I had gotten hooked during the 1990 run and I was sure that the Bruins would beat Edmonton. Mostly because I was 15 and didn't really know the first thing about hockey.
I went to my first game that fall - a 3-2 OT win over the St Louis Blues. Moog was in net, Neely had the game winner. I couldn't get enough. And then the B's lost to the Penguins two years running. And soon enough I was off to NU and my hockey attention shifted to the Huskies, sadly with about the same amount of success. But at least the tickets were only $5 and it was easy enough to sneak in a flask.
The last couple of years I've been very much a 'playoffs fan'. When the 2nd season rolls around I'm there. Last season my wife watched the games with me and shared in the anguish of that series against the Flyers. This year she's pregnant with our 2nd child and just doesn't have the energy to stay up beyond the first period. These game threads have been my company on the couch and it's been great.
Now the Huskies just need to figure out how to win the Beanpot.
I enjoyed going back to the very beginning of RMPS and reading some of the old threads and reactions to trades, hirings, signings, etc. It's been quite a journey.

I just spent the better half of my day reading every post in this thread. I've always lurked around this forum because some of the most knowledgeable hockey fans I've ever come across are here. Thanks for the ride. This has been the best 24 hours of my life.
I've been fighting mono for going on 3 weeks now. I've been an absolute zombie, yet I've been fighting through between the B's, work, and life. It's been the most exhausting 3 weeks of my life, bar none. I've kept going to work mainly so I could call out for a parade if one was to ever happen. I'd be falling asleep at my desk, but I still kept coming in.
Well today, around 1:30, everything hit me. I was just completely and utterly exhausted and had to go home. Driving home, listening to Felger and Mazz, it FINALLY sank in that they had won the Cup. I could barely keep my eyes open but I had a smile a mile wide.
I just woke up from a nap and am slowly starting to feel human again. Monday I go back to the rest of my life.
I'll never forget the last 2 months. But for the first time, I'm glad it's over.
