I'm 99% positive that was the order. I know Poulin had 2 including the winner, and Christian tied it on a one time slapper from the faceoff dot. I remember Millbury hugging Poulin like a maniac when coming off the ice.

They also subbed in Moog for Lemelin at the start of the 3rd as well. What a game.
I remember that Poulin game winner. He had a great net drive with a Whaler all over him and fought his way to a loose puck at the goalies' feet. I think Bourque was out with an injury that game also.

I've spent a good chunk of my day today on youtube watching Bruins videos. I started out watching stuff just from this season, but then I just started clicking on whatever they had in the related videos. Anything from Neely goals to PJ Stock fights, with some of Jack Edwards' best moments thrown in. All the memories make me want it more. We deserve this. Get it done.

Question: My girlfriend wants me to watch the game with her tonight. I watched Game 1 and Game 5 at her house. I declined to go over for Game 6 and they won. What should I do?
Don't go over there. I'm purposely avoiding a friend of mine that I watched game 2 & 5 with for the same reason.

Back in the dark ages of Dave Lewis and too many Brads on the ice and watching games basically alone a friend had a friend who she knew was watching the games as well. "You guys should get together and watch a game" she said more than once. The rest, as they say, is history. Watching a game together led to watching another game led to going to a game together led to hanging out for non-Bruin games led to splitting a 10 pack led to season tickets led to living together led to...

So yeah, I'm kind of fired up about this team.

Yeah, Bourque got hurt in Game 1 and was out until Game 7. Poulin got mugged and then knocked in the game winner from his knees in the crease. Saved their season pretty much, would have gone down 3-1 in the series to the lowly whale.

That team is why I'm a Bruins fan.

It was the '88 team for me. That 7th game against New Jersey was probably the highlight of my childhood.

Per ESPN stats: If B's win, Boston will be the quickest city to win all four major championships. It would be a span of 6 years.
What's would be more amazing is that Boston only has one of each team. You would expect a city like NY, or LA which has multiple teams per sport.

Oh I know about Dafoomie's channel. I actually started out there, watching the games 3, 4 and 6 recaps, and made my way down. I went back further and further found the '91 Adams Division Final videos, and that being the playoffs after my first full season following the Bruins, It made me want more '90s vids, and it spiraled out of control from there.

I suppose that when you're near the end, you think of the beginning. I think of where it started for me. I'm the only one in my family that plays hockey. But my father, who can barely skate, loves the sport. He came to BU in the 60's, and lawschool in the 70's. He had never really experienced hockey before, as he was from Virginia. It was a sport that was fast and violent, and he fell in love. I remember when I would watch the Bruins as a kid, my father not really sure whether I was into it. But to me, it will go back to those days where my Dad would introduce this "cool sport" to me. Eventually, I started playing floor hockey, and ultimately I got to the ice and played. Hockey has led me to a lot of places in life, and got me into college. College changed me, and got me interested in learning again. Interested in knowing. I might not have ever done that without hockey, and I never would have played hockey without the Bruins.

So here we are, four hours away from the first time the Bruins have had a chance to clinch a Cup in my lifetime. This has been the best ride, as a fan, of my life. The Bruins have always been my first love. I cried when that shot when through Moog's legs, and prayed for Bourque to win a Cup with another team just because I loved him. He was my childhood hero. In 1997 I thought I was witnessing the re-birth in the draft. The chance for my team to be good, or possibly even great. I didn't work out, but I had deluded myself. Then, Game 6 happened and I was there. I still have that ticket and remember it fondly. Marco Sturm. Nils punching ceiling tiles. The city alive with the love of hockey. So, when I went to Game 3 of the Finals this year, I took out that Game 6 ticket again. It felt like it was coming full circle. They won Game 3 handily, but now, they have but one game left in the most magical ride as a fan of my life.

I really believe they will win, and that I will cry after. I believe Seguin will score. I believe Lucic will be unstoppable, and at approximately 10:57pm EST I will witness, for the first time in my life, the Bruins raise Lord Stanley's Cup.

I will be at the pour house here in Denver with a bunch of unruly bruins fans, we will show these Nancy avalanche lovers what real hockey is about. It is about having your own team, not winning a cup after someone elses team moves to your town.

Win it for all those who thirst for dirty fucking water!

Jesus Christ. I'm far too amped to be stuck at work right now. I haven't done it since I moved out of Roslindale close to 10 years ago, but I want to go out, strap on some rollerblades, and jump down to Fallon Field and see if I can find a street hockey game. My boss has noted my productivity level as less than zero (Not only am I completely unproductive, but I'm calling coworkers into my office to look at Bruins shit), and he doesn't care in the least, because he's the same. I'm trying to cut out early and make it into Boston with good time left. Holy shit is it 8 yet?

I played a pick up game of shinny at the rink this morning.. usually 10 per side and hopefully 2 goalies post up... but usually only get one.

Today?

4 goalies, 14 a side. And I am in CT.

It was the only time in the last 48 hours I wasn't a complete mess. Calmed me down.

It's hard to get through this thread without getting a little dust in your eye.

My dad used to drive me to hockey practice every Saturday morning. 5am, 6am, maybe 7 if he was lucky, but he did it without fail until I aged out. I wasn't the fastest skater and I couldn't score a goal to save my life, but he was always there to watch and support me, along with mom, who was just getting home from work when I got on the ice. Halfway through high school I aged out and sports in my life stopped. Through SoSH and through finding my way back into Boston sports I have discovered what I loved about the games I played as a kid. I remember going to Portland Pirates games, where I routed for Dafoe and Carey, and got nostalgic when they would play for the B's years later. I remember being happy when Ray Bourque got traded to the Avalanche, because I didn't feel like the Av's could lose that year, the B's giving him a chance at something it felt like they could never attain again, but here we are, one game away from putting the period (better yet, comma) on a decade of Boston sports. A decade that has erased years of also rans, years of almosts, years of maybe next times and has helped a new generation of kids fall asleep in jerseys too big for them, watching replays before school, and wanting to be the biggest thing to ever come from New England.

Win it for 6am ice time, and everyone who makes that possible.

The cup doesn't need to go back to Canada, it needs to stay with one of the Original Six.

Long time lurker and very infrequent poster, but I read pretty much everything. I've been a Bruins fan since Bobby Orr was completely healthy. They've given me a lot of great hockey over the years and some not so great. This is as amped up as I've been for this team as I've been since the late 70's battle with the diving team. I love this team! I've put in a fairly useless day of work, but the beer is already cold, my pool table is clean, and the plasma is ready to go. Protect the Civic! Wooo

Quality over quantity.

This day is moving incredibly slowly, like Luongo's glove hand.

Just came back from running errands at Stop and Shop, I saw literally twenty people (in about 15 minutes) all wearing some type of Bruins clothing, chatting up with the cashiers about the thoughts on today's game. This shit is so awesome, no way can we possibly lose tonight. The Boston Bruins have control of this city. Bring the cup home!

Win this for American dads everywhere.
Win it for all the Moms and Dads of all the Bruin players. For the numerous sacrifices they have made to get these men to where they are today. For those parents from Canada, the United States, the Czech Republic,Slovakia, Germany and Finland. I hope your sons get to take The Cup to everyone of their home towns to show off to their family and friends.

Go Bruins!

I wish I was in Boston to share the experience with some of you.

I was three when the Bruins last won a Stanley Cup. I was 22 when they last started a series that could end with someone wearing black and gold lifting the cup. I was lucky enough (or, maybe not so lucky) to go to the Bears kill the Patriots in New Orleans as a teenager. I was in the hot, sweaty house when the Celtics crushed the Lakers in Game 1 way back when. And the Red Sox had a chance each of my first couple of decades on this planet. So tonight is something new: the Bruins, while I am actually making memories, are in a championship game. Not a championship series, a finals, but a game that, if they win, will result in covers of magazines and large-fonted headlines declaring our team the BEST in the land. And they shall not miss this opportunity. They will, tonight, they will put the Vancouver Canucks in their proper place, which is second-best. Good, but not good enough, these Canucks. Our Bruins will not fail in this, their last task of the season.

I grew up with a "Save 4 Orr" sticker on my light switch. I had a Pete Peeters poster on my closet door that I used to shoot at. I still have a Cam Neely autographed stick that I got before a dirty Swede wrecked his leg. I used to revel in the "hand man", as we called him, banging the face of the balcony in the old garden while yelling "Moncton, [insert crappy defenseman's name here]". In college I watched hours of VHS fight tapes of Bruce Shoebottom, Jay Miller, and a litany of pugilists beat up on Adams Division pests. The Bruins, for a long while, were my team. Not the Sox. Not the Celtics (even with Larry). Not the Pats. It was the Bruins. I got this from my dad, who first got his season tickets along with his high school best friend in the 1960s, fifty years ago. My dad was (and still is) the picture of the quiet fan, someone who didn't and doesn't yell during fights, who just watched the game, looking for the Bruins to win. I don't recall him ever yelling or even clapping for a goal. But he went. Over and over. And watches the games. Still. But he loves the Bruins. He gave up his seats a couple of years ago due to Jacobs fatigue (enough cynical trades did him in) but his pal still goes, and despite not attending nearly as much I know my dad loves this team like I do. In 1972 my parents went to Locke-Ober Cafe to celebrate their birthdays (they were born in early May, a couple of days apart), and - as the story has always gone - they brought a television to a private room there just so they could see the Bruins beat the Rangers. This was my example. This was the dedication.

So tonight they win. Tonight they win the Cup. Tonight they skate around the ice lifting a big shiny trophy on which all their names shall be inscribed. Tonight I get to see (and remember) something for which all of us have waited. Some of us have waited decades. Others have waited years. But we have all watched and waited. And tonight we are all rewarded.

Go Bruins.

Holy shit, I'm really starting to freak out over here.

Does anyone have that number for the Good Samaritan's that's posted next to the Bourne Bridge? It might not be bad to, you know, talk to someone.

My chills have chills, holy shit. Thanks to everyone for making sure this is the most useless day at the office ever.

Also, my one and only win it for:

Despite what's happened this year and game 6 in 08 this is my favorite moment since I became a hardcore Bruins fan. That overtime was incredible and just the jubilation after he scored was awesome.

There are so many beautiful, sincere sentiments in this thread. I'm a first generation Bostonian, and I don't yet have children, so I can't speak to the amazing family memories constructed around Bruins games. However, having spent the last four years in various cities for law school and work after, I can say that sports teams - more than anything else - are little emblems of your hometown you can carry with you anywhere. As much as I wish I were watching the game tonight at a local bar, or with friends somewhere in the shadow of the Garden, the idea that I can be in Philly, and root for BOSTON, my city, city of my birth, makes me feel an inviolable, unshakeable connection with my dearly missed hometown.

Okay, I'm a fucking mess. A nervous wreck. And having the game almost 4 hours from now, I don't know if I'm going to make it. It's taking everything I've got in me right now not to start drinking and yes, I'm still in New Orleans. Bourbon St is literally 2 blocks from my hotel. I think it's safe to say that I'm done working for the day.

But this has to be one of my favorite game threads in a while guys. These stories are great and I love seeing some of the lurkers come out of the woodwork to pitch in. You guys are here now and that's all that matters. Sure, others may have been following this team longer or post in here more often, but no one needs to apologize or feel like you have to justify posting. We're all on the same team here today, with a singular focus:

I'm 38 years old. When I was in the first grade on a school trip to the skating rink I tripped and landed on my chin. The blow travelled up into one of my top front teeth which required three root canals that year.

Needless to say, I never really learned how to skate after that. My sports loves probably go Patriots>Red Sox>Bruins>Celtics, with the Bruins and Sox being very close for second place.

In July 2009, I bought my first house and asked my then-girlfriend to move in with me. Four months later, in October 2009, my older, wilder brother ran into some legal trouble. I won't go into it much detail, other than to say that the charges stemmed involve a dishonest and vindictive ex-girlfriend. Long story short, he needed a place to stay and I had just bought a house, so he moved in with me and my girlfriend. My brother is a great guy - his heart is as big as anyone's I've ever me - but he's loud and he's stubborn and he doesn't make concessions easily.

Let me tell you, life was difficult - not only because I had my older crazy brother living with me when I was trying to build a life and family of my own, but also because of the way our judicial system works. If you haven't lived through it, I can't even begin to describe it to you. It's like if you could take every bad experience that you ever had with the RMV or some other representative of the government that didn't care about you and then switched it from them not caring about you to them actively disliking you and openly working against you, giving you false information and directions just so they can trick you into breaking parole or something. Have you ever had a police officer lie to you and tell you to do something just so they could arrest you when you did it? I have. Luckily I called the lawyer as I was driving over to do exactly what the cop said to do and the lawyer talked some sense into me.

Also, when you are dealing with the court system, everything moves at the slowest speed possible. My brother got arrested in 2009 and still hasn't received his court date as of today. We're going on over a year and a half later and there's not even a hint of when the court date will be. You just sit and wait and wait and wait.

As these things tend to do, the tension from the legal situation at times boiled over into the way my brother and I dealt with each other. At times I was resentful with him living with us(unemployed) while my girlfriend and I had to get up and go to work. At times I wanted him gone already.

In other ways, however, my brother and I grew closer. One of those ways was by watching the Bruins together. Prior to living with my brother, I would maybe have gone to one game a year, usually if someone offered free tickets or something. Since my brother moved in with me, though, I probably went to about five games a year, usually as my gift to him for his birthday or christmas or something (he was unemployed at the time). Mostly, though, we watched many many hockey games together on NESN. He's a big bruins fan and it rubbed off on me.

I married my girlfriend in May 2010. I think I always knew I would marry her, but it was by seeing her being okay with that fact that I asked my brother to move in with us that I realized she was the one. When we got married, my brother performed the ceremony. He was still living with us at the time. My brother moved out in January of this year. I had to ask him to move out. It had been over a year and it was time. My wife is now pregnant with twins. My brother is doing well. He seems happy and on the right track.

Unless, of course, the Bruins game is on and they are playing a flopping weak team like the Canucks or blowing the lead against the Flyers or what have you. Then he's a maniac, screaming at the tv and scaring the cats out of the room.

Tonight I hope for a calm gentle night of slaughter where we go up by five goals in the first period and never let off the gas.

We can all see that you want the cup more than those other guys, so just go fucking take it.
