Holy shit. Thtat’s gotta be ChatGPT generated, yeah? I mean, the first rule of leadership is own blame, share credit. This doesn’t get into the actual tactical decisions this series. Which have been rehashed ad nauseum. The reality is that they didn’t face adversity during the season and when Monly did during the playoffs, he panicked and diverted from what worked in the regular season. I will fully admit I am waaaayyy into the bourbon so . . .

I get the sentiment, but who’s going to want to come coach a team with an aging core and no draft picks, that just fired their record setting coach the year after firing their last coach?

And it’s quite clear that Cassidy had to go, so I’m not disputing that move. Just, they are what they are at this point.
I understand but this team has a bleak future regardless, and I absolutely do not trust the Neely/Sweeney team to navigate the next few years.

And Monty… Jesus when you make Grady Little look competent….

Total house clean. Start over and build properly.

When a team shows this much mental weakness, you look at the coach.

When the coach makes statements that betray profound mental weakness, you have the confirmation you sought.

Bye Monty.

I just don’t get how guys like McAvoy and Lindholm couldn’t even do like D to D passes without shitting themselves. Make it make sense.
Classic squeezing of the stick too tight.

I get the feeling that the team was feeling extra pressure to live up to expectations after the regular season and got spooked when the Panthers showed up to play in game 1. They played tight all series, tried to do too much, and couldn't do much of anything. The passing was... flat out a different team from the regular season.

Not defending the poor optics of saying that after a loss like that, but there was just an article in The Athletic last week by Fluto I believe talking about how Montgomery lets “Goalie Bob” make the call on whom should play — because he has complete faith in both goalies and Goalie Bob (who will now have coached a 3rd Vezina winner). Still a shitty answer, but that is why he said it.
He said equally shitty things in addition to that one. The moment devoured him.

Bill Belichick would put his balls through a meat grinder before he pulled that, and as a wildly successful coach for 40 years he’s been on the podium for some ballcrunching losses. Get fucked, Jim.

You should read some of the shit that’s being said in here. At what age do people catch on that this doesn’t really impact their lives? And I’ve been a diehard fan since 1978.

He got outcoached by Paul fucking Maurice, the losingest loser to ever stand behind the bench.
This. A hundred times this . As a kid it really hurt when Scotty Bowman outcoached the Bs. Even w his superior roster. But his greatest gift was not standing in the way of his team. And letting them be what they are.

I’ve read all of it. Posted some of it. Its sports. An outlet to get fired up and care too much about the unimportant. We’ll all go on with our lives tomorrow. Don’t think a scolding is needed tonight.

Why you are choosing tonight to be obtuse is strange.

This team caught lightning in a bottle this year, right up until the time when the pressure was turned on and they wilted. The coach proved to be no better than Grady Little and now they’re faced with an impossible feat to stay competitive. And I do not trust this management team - who, let’s not forget, decided there needed to be no accountability for the Mitch Miller debacle - to thread that needle. Nor do I trust them to manage a rebuild.

This is getting dangerously close to the always ridiculous discussion about being “clutch“. Was there a different formula or analytic Sweeney was supposed to use to make sure the team he assembled had the right amount of grittiness and non-chokiness?

I am not being obtuse. And I get people handle this differently. But, what the fuck do we need to “rebuild” exactly? You’re being a bit nuts with your reactions — I get why — but this team is in great shape going forward with this core.

They choked. It’s OK to acknowledge it. This team is vastly better than the Panthers, and they spit the bit. The weight of expectations crushed them. It happens.

Playoff hockey is about timely saves, timely goals and luck. We got more than our fair share of it in 2011 and have been paying our bill since then it seems.

Fucking Montador had 5 goals in 7 games, what the fuck is that.

This team could have done great things, fuck it hurts.

They went 7 games with 2 OT losses against a team that won the presidents trophy last year. More of the officiating breaks and bounces went Florida's way. NHL playoffs are always a toss up. I am pissed and disappointed, but an overreaction to get rid of Sweeney or Monty would be a mistake in my opinion. Edit: I am ok with Neely going though.

Nobody is going to remember that when thinking about his career 5-10 years from now.
I‘ll use this as a jumping off point. Tonight hurts. Not so much for me as a fan (though I’m drunk & pissed), but for Bergeron. A few weeks ago I was trying to explain him to a non-hockey person but someone who is very attuned to leadership. I talked some about how he played, the fact that being THE GUY was irrelevant to him. But mostly how he played and carried himself. How he deferred to others, unless they needed him to step up. And hence why he has more OT goals than any B. But ultimately what I will remember him for (among many things) is the Mitchell debacle. He spoke truth to power and pushed to the edge of his authority. I just wish he got a better send off. Fuck.
Not a Pats fan.

So if Pastrnak’s shot at the beginning of OT is 3 cm to the right, everything is ok with the organization? We gotta except that this is a random game played with a 5 oz piece of rubber that bounces is so crazy ways.

I’ll be the fly in the ointment. They have sneaky big problems, even with those guys.

Just filling in the roster next year is going to be a challenge. Between those contracts and the bonus overages for Bergeron and Krejci, they have ~$6 million to sign something like 6-7 forwards, plus resign Frederic and Swayman (or take what they’re given in arbitration). So at minimum, the pipe dream people had of resigning Bertuzzi needs to die, it almost literally can’t happen. So money has to come out somewhere. Maybe now that they’re down to the last year of it, you can get a taker for Mike Reilly, but he also spent the entire year in Providence. Forbort also has one left, but somehow this team thinks they’re better with him on the ice. Trade Carlo, and you trade a young stay-at-home defenceman that somehow was one of the team’s better skaters in this series. Grzelcyk is also on his last year, so maybe, but that’s still just $3.7m for next season. You’ll need every forward they still have signed, full stop. Ullmark’s NMC does turn into a 16-team NTC this summer, but is Swayman ready for 55+ games? Is Bussi ready to be an NHL backup with 35 games on his plate?
There’s a reason the organization looked at this season as the last shot to push all-in. With Pastrnak getting his big payday, they were going to lose that roster flexibility that made them monsters.

And yet year and year after year it does not bounce the Bruins’ way. It never does. The Bruins never get the shaft of the goalie stick on the puck. 2011 used up all of that.

When the stakes are high they consistently lose. It’s not bad luck. This series was lost mentally. It hurts to say it but the overwhelming characteristic of this organization is coming up small.

I have zero idea how the can change that but that’s priority number one.

The problem is that next year’s team looks likely different than this year’s (Bergeron/Kreiji potential retirement, Orlov/Bertuzzi/Hathaway departures, etc). And how does Monty handle A) one of the greatest post season failures and B) a team in transition. I guess my point is, really good leadership is fucking hard. And requires difficult decisions. Monty failed his first test. We’ll see what happens going forward. I kinda feel bad for him because I think he will ultimately be known as the guy that closed the window

Again, no one cares about Tampa right now, but they just dominated play in their 3 home games against the Leafs, had a 4-1 lead with 10 minutes to go in the second home game, and lost all three games in OT. You can't do that if you tried. They had zero puck luck. None. You need some bounces along the way.

I am stunned. Sick to my stomach for this otherwise historic and fantastic season for it to end like this. I'm at a total loss right now.
The mistakes, the lack of leadership, the mental breakdowns. They just kept going backwards. Against a team that's not even that great. Sports can be a tough follow at times.

No, I wouldn’t be. Because this roster has serious problems.

Monty deserves To be fired after that series almost regardless of the rest of this fictional scenario.

This. The thing that was so great about this season is that they extended the window one more year. Next year they pay for the Bergeron & Krejci bonuses. Whether they play or not. And then the $ for Forbert and Reilly. Plus the departures of Orlov, Bertuzzi, & Hathaway, plus possibly Clifton. This was the year. Now we figure out the rebuild.

A core of Pastrnak, McAvoy, Lindholm, Zacha, DeBrusk, Hall, Coyle, Ullmark, Swayman, is going to win a lot of regular season games next year. They’ll probably be in the same position that Florida was this year. Who would you rather be right now? Boston or Pittsburgh? How about Washington? Islanders?

Wanna know the sick thing? They did focus on health and rest, as much as a team against the cap can. They just never moved on from what worked for the first 82 games.
I think they were a team that played max effort every game that didn’t have another gear. Where as, Florida kind of sandbagged in the regular season because they went through this last year.

Yeah I mean the majority of the good players on the team are signed long term. Need to figure out center and that’s not easy.
