I’m amazed at Judon’s consistency. It seems like he’s in the backfield making it difficult for the QB on every play.

You left someone out, I think.

Mine:
1. JC Jackson
2. Barmore/Judon
3. Bolden/Rhamondre

The Pats gained 273 yards on offense today. 194 of that (71%) was from those two. Meanwhile, Harris law largely stuffed, going just 15 carried for 30 yards.

Demerits: Mac and the coaching staff for the offense's consistent inability to just execute snapping the football. Especially in thr first quarter, but really throughout the game, there were many of false starts and delay of game penalties. Offense was not in sync all game long. On the sack/fumble, Henry chipped the end and then passed him off to Wynn who ignored him. Either Henry was supposed to stay in and block, or Wynn was supposed to pick up the rusher, but instead Wynn just let him go and turned to watch him flatten Mac. Then Wynn spent a couple of beats watching Jones on the ground before it occurred to him that the ball was loose and maybe he ought to go pick it up? Just terrible.

Hands down this was Mac's worst game, and he has been trending the wrong way of late. The good part of today's game is that Carolina's offense was crap and they didn't need much of anything out of Mac.

Another demerit: Greg Gumbel, who said, as JC Jackson was running back his long (88 yards) pick-6, "This is Justin Bethel"

Defense gets the game ball.

Game goats in no particular order:
-The CBS production crew who basically refused to show any replays
-The CBS announcing team who were just plain terrible, even if you factor out all their errors.
-Whoever was calling the offense for the Pats in the 4th quarter

Barmore had a monster of a game. Saved a TD with one blocked pass and was in what's left of Darnold's mind all day.
The interior OL consistently moving people out of the running lanes
I'm still confused at whether this was a failing Panther offense or a Pats defense getting their Mojo on

Here
Team win although the pass game didn’t do them many favors…

Edit: That pass TD to Henry seemed big at the time though.
Jones was 11/12 with 120 yards in the first half and then it really wasn't prudent to be throwing the ball much after that. I thought the pass game was perfectly fine.

Bolden, played really well and got used in a new role today as a pseudo WR3/rb2 in a pony formation that I don't remember the pats breaking out before today.

Greg Gumbel is 75. He used to be good, but it might be time.

Adam Archuleta was never good. I'd rather hear Beasley Reece.

A pick, a strip sack, and another sack in 14 first-half dropbacks though ... that's pretty bad, even if the per-play efficiency you quoted looks good. And they were 1 of 5 in the second half.

Belichick praises a rookie???

@MikeReiss
Bill Belichick on Christian Barmore: “I gotta give that kid a lot of credit. He comes in early. Stays late. Works on his flexibility. His strength. His technique. He’s really applied himself. He’s done better and better every week.”

Whoa. Is that the most praise he’s ever bestowed a player on the team during the season?

Holy shit. Greg Gumbel is 75. My Dad is 75. I would never trust my Dad to talk about ANYTHING in a clear way about sports, despite his best intentions and relative health.

I’m honestly flabbergasted by this.

I am pretty sure he got kicked on the head (accidentally it appeared) *after* he was down on his last play
Absolutely did - I was furious with CBS missing yet another key replay. The kick was unintentional, just a trip, but it was why the player (whatever his name is - it doesn't matter, right broadcast team?) was down.

Outside of McCaffrey, this Panthers team is incredibly untalented on offense, so game ball to their GM, something called "Scott Fitterer". Tons of dumb penalties, stuffed runs and 2 takeaways kept this from being a massive blowout. JCJ's TD pick was on an overthrow, but his move in the end zone to kill the best Panther drive of the day was exceptional work.

I just want to say I'm completely sold on Christian Barmore. The kid is an animal and has completely transformed this defensive line. I think he impacted the game more than any other defensive player yesterday.

Agreed. Three false starts and three delays, too - some of that has to be on the QB and the staff.

Per play efficiency wasn't great as well. They basically had a 41 yard dumpoff and that was pretty much it for the passing game. I legitimately thought we'd stop talking about completion percentage as an indication of passing game success after Cam completed 68.7% of his throws last year, but I guess we're not there yet.

Guy can really play and is a force in the middle. Full credit for BB the GM for trading up to get him. Between Jones, Barmore and Stevenson the 2021 NFL Draft really shaping up to be a winner. Ronnie Perkins though is currently on a milk carton somewhere.

If Mac is good (and I'm on the minority in this board that believes that's still very much in question at this early juncture), then the rest of the draft doesn't even matter, it's a home run. To get a guy like Barmore on top just makes it special.

I don’t think too many posters are convinced Mac is destined for greatness or anything. And I think the “best of the batch” comparisons against other rookie QBs do him no favors – who is a complete package their first year out of college? But he has flashed some great decision making, he has made some great throws and he seems to be a very good fit for this offensive system.

Now, if he can get the pre-snap protection stuff squared away—I’m inclined to think a lot of their sloppiness is on Mac still learning this stuff on the job—then yes, I think he’ll be good. How good I don’t know, but good. And maybe very good.

Oh, I'm not talking about being destined for greatness, I'm saying I'm not convinced he's a solid starting QB yet. I think he has displayed enough traits to convince me he can play at the NFL level (and I have my doubts on that front with every other rookie that's not Lawrence), but I haven't seen enough to state definitively he'll be better than, say, Daniel Jones.

What are your main concerns with Jones if you are going to be this meh on him?

I am sure the points you will respond with will be strong, but saying he won't be better than Daniel Jones a QB he is currently outplaying, feels like a comment to just draw a reaction.

Defense up to 4th in overall EPA. 4th in pass defense, 7th in rush defense. Yeah, it was Sam Darnold, and he's terrible, but they basically pitched a shutout if not for turnovers setting them up in a couple bad spots.

EDIT: the drive chart for CAR is hilarious:
3 plays, 1 yard, punt
5 plays, 6 yards, punt
7 plays, 12 yards, FG
3 plays, 3 yards, punt
6 plays, 3 yards, FG
1 play, 5 yards, halftime
3 plays, 4 yards, punt
8 plays, 64 yards, interception (returned for TD)
6 plays, 22 yards, interception
8 plays, 61 yards, interception
9 plays, 14 yards, downs

The only drives they gained even 20 yards ended in turnovers.

Yup. Really is annoying they couldn’t work it out with Gilmore. This unit is really starting to gel.

If you had to win a game right now and you could choose Mac or Daniel are you saying you'd have to think about it?
