Straight red for Mitrovic. A bit harsh imho but you can't come down on someone's ankle with your studs like that.

Have to say that despite three yellows and a red to Newcastle, the official hasn't been wrong once. Newcastle has been reckless with challenges. Just hope Arsenal get through the game without any injuries.

Not wrong once? How can any sane person say Arsenal didn't deserve a penalty after Thauvin obviously caught Bellerin on the heel in the box?

Not wrong on the cards given. All of the cards given were justified, even if the red was a bit harsh as I said earlier.

Nothing in it as far as being a red, thought it could be a yellow given he made no contact with the ball and both legs made contact with Colback

Never a red. The ref just wanted to make up for the wrong penalty call. Marriner has always reffed us poorly.

The Mitrovic foul was the type of studs stomp that should be a red more often but often isn't called that way.  He stomped on the player's ankle with his studs and it wasn't a bang-bang play where he was making a tackle and the boot missed the ball by a fraction of an inch.  It was a Diego Costa patented "I'll stomp on this player right after he passes and make it look like a tackle" type action.

How can a team with this many "creative" players lack this much creativity?

Is the answer to your question "Wenger"? I know he's forgotten more about football than all of us will ever know put together, but my worry is that the little Inside Out pixies in his head have chucked out some key bits of tactical inspiration along with all of the scouting reports on 15-year-old French youngsters.

Arsenal is absolutely painful to watch offensively. So much skill with so little creativity.

With Monreal, No Ozil, and Walcott up top, this is hardly the A squad creatively. Newcastle all but parked the bus from the jump. It hasn't been good, but if they get out of here with three points and no broken ankles, it's not cause for further panic.

Liverpool having trouble because with Bilic managing West Ham their usual dominance of the ethnic cleansing game is limited.
Indeed. Bilic looks like the guy who sits behind the big, ornate desk smoking cigarettes, indicating to Skrtel when to break the fingers of the victim they have tied to a chair.

Either Can or Lucas needs to come off. Can is a DM playing in an advanced role and doesn't have the technical skills to control the ball in tight space. I'd take him off, put Moreno on, and have Lucas distribute.

Another thing about Can...where was he (and Milner, for that matter) on the second goal? Obviously, Lovren shouldn't have put the team in that position, but the West Ham midfield arrived with only Lucas and the back four anywhere near the play.

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing that Brodge thinks the way I do.

Worst case scenario for Brodge to fail so spectacularly this early and just before the international break. His selection and tactics look like he forgot to check where or who he was playing.

You know they're going to pack it in, yet you play your beloved target striker. He's on an island and totally useless. You ignore Lovren's warning signs in the earlier games. Your tactical adjustment to bring a second striker in sacrifices your last vestige of creative talent. It's utter insanity.

True. Once the mistake was made by Lovren, the defending was borderline comical.

This was a must-win, when you consider the run of matches coming up, and they've appeared hopeless from the opening kick. Not a good look.

West Ham doing a good job of CONCACAFing now. Lucas gets a yellow after some nice play-acting and Clattenburg being a defiant twat in response to Liverpool frustration with him.

From my wife (the real LFC fan in our house): "I feel like I'm watching the USWNT with Wambach in."

That's... Incredibly accurate.

What the hell is that?
Studs down, not a bad tackle at all.
Straight red for what might not even be a foul.
