Todays Bundesliga:

15.30:
5th Augsburg - 6th Leverkusen (fight for international spots)
16th Freiburg - 7th Hoffenheim (derby)
15th Mainz - 9th Frankfurt (derby)
4th Schalke - 8th Bremen (both with good starts after the winter break / Schalke with 7 of 12 and Bremen 12 of 12 points)
13th Paderborn - 1st Bayern (big gap on paper, could be a decent match on the pitch if Paderborn can hold on)

18.30:
12th Cologne - 11th Hannover (boring match, Cologne with 100 consecutive 0-0 draws @home)

Palace have awesome fans. Their team went down 1-0 in the first 5min and the place is still rocking. Arsenal are under pressure.

Zomp looking more prescient each week with his Herrera love. Prevented Gomis's bid off the goal line and scored one in the first half

Arsenal up 0-2 at the half despite being put under serious pressure by Palace.  Welbeck created both goals but won't receive any assist or key pass stats for his contribution.  Seriously hard worker.

Can't help but love Palace and their fans though.  Hope they stay up.

Now Matić sees red, I missed the incident with Barnes but he's been a thorn in Chelsea's side all game

Maybe I am missing something but that was a follow through on a pass. Slowed down it looks bad but that happened in what half a second?
I agree there wasn't intent by Barnes on that one. Chelsea players are just upset because he made two bad aerial challenges in the first the first half without any punishment.

So much for a boring day.  Chelsea held to a draw at home by a relegation side, United beaten, Arsenal given all they could handle and were a bunch of lucky breaks away from a draw (or worse).  Honestly, Palace deserved a draw for that one.

Edit: Palace outshot Arsenal 22-12 and won the possession battle 53%-47%.

I'm pretty certain Barnes knew what he was doing by turning his studs into Matic's shin, but forgive me if I don't cry for a Chelsea player getting worked up over a nasty little piece of business by an opponent.  You employ Diego Costa, you can't exactly complain about another team not getting penalized for sneaky shit once in a while.

Nothing too sneaky about a leg breaker in front of the referee. No problem with Matic red obviously, but it should have been one for one.

I'm loathe to be defending Chelsea, but I agree Barnes knew what he was doing. Atkinson bungled the two clear penalties by Burnley as well, and continues to be arguably the worst official in the EPL's employ (along with Dowd, who's aided by being hilarious)

Palace off the post at the death, so close to Arsenal throwing away three points.

That was such a kick in the balls. That game reminded me of the first (and only) game I went to at Selhurst. It was last season against Arsenal, and Palace played their asses off and lost then too.

Palace were pretty unlucky as well. The penalty was actually inches outside the box (though Souare fucked that up so bad) and the other goal Arsenal was just offside.

Let's not get all clutch-the-pearls.  Neither Barnes nor Matic was planted enough to break anyone's leg.  It was about as nasty as one of the Jazzhands Hero's trademark ankle stamps--enough to leave a mark for a few days, but not about to send anyone to the ER.

I really like how much DLew hates Costa. He deserves it.

I also really like the Man City that showed up today, wondering where this has been all season

I don't think there's a conspiracy against Chelsea.

I do think Martin Atkinson should be relegated to amateur leagues. He sucks for everybody, fortunately. It's not a Chelsea problem.

I utterly believe Chelsea have absolutely earned their just desserts at this point.

Human nature may be entering into things somewhat. Diego Costa puts people off. Hazard is legitimately fouled with a staggering regularity owing to his speed and quickness, but he adds to his tally with shameless simulation. Ivanovic is an insanely talented defender that gesticulates like a spoiled child. His antics after the handball today were utterly absurd and his behavior when Atkinson pulled the red was total bush league. The team as a whole is working referees as a result of their manager's scheme. It's backfiring.

The best thing they could do at this point is adopt a businesslike demeanor without the dripping sarcasm Mourinho displays. Referees, regardless of their job, are human. Don't show them up. Don't play mind games with them. Mourinho is too far on the wrong side of the ledger here and he's costing his team. He's miscalculated with his public commentary and perhaps legitimately created what he was attempting to insinuate. His players are following his lead. Too many games, too few of them are actual football.

Parma's match against Udinese tomorrow has been called off because of Parma's continued financial problems.  A sad fall for the club since the late 90s.  Their 1999 UEFA Cup winning team featured Buffon, Thuram, Cannavaro, Veron, Crespo, among others.

If this continues they'll go bust, immediately form a new club, and probably land comfortably in the third tier like Fiorentina and Napoli before them.  Calcio italiano.

West Ham is a fun team to watch.

They are.  Who would have thought that would ever be true with Sam Allardyce as manager?  Apparently he was told yesterday that West Ham won't be renewing his contract at the end of the year.

What a finish by Sakho.

Noble saved from himself by Vertonghen and Jonathan Moss, that's a second yellow every time
