I got very lucky to get a ticket for opening day at Stadion an der alten Försterei. Sorry for those of you on the WhatsApp group that have already seen this, but Union Berlin started the regular season right where they left off, winning 4-1, coming from a Kevin Behrens hat trick and *two* penalty saves from Frederik Rønnow. We’ve been talking about transfer fees and salaries, let’s just look at those two.
Keven Behrens (according to Transfermarkt.de) moved to Union Berlin for no fee, and in fact, has never cost anything on any of his moves. I wouldn’t expect a salary dump in a lower league for someone scoring hat-tricks a level above. He came from SV Sandhausen, who were a level below Union when he came to Berlin, that I remember.
Rønnow was acquired from Frankfurt for €1 million. I feel like I should be Mike Myers when I say that. How is this guy this good to be acquired for that price?
