Detroit has the matching salary in Harris, Hayes and Wiseman. Amen Thompson and picks has a lot of upside for Portland. Would you rather bet against Miami or Detroit long term? Given my own feelings about Weaver's approach to team building, I know which bet I would make.
IMO, the recent memory of Detroit trading for Blake Griffin will give them pause. Another aging all star on a massive contract who won’t improve them that much… they’re going to trade multiple first round picks for that?

Like, yeah, I’d bet against Detroit more than Miami. Anyone would. But also, Detroit in this situation is not giving up three firsts and three swaps. If they’re giving up Thompson, they’re maybe adding a pick or two? I was responding to a poster saying that Portland should get a KD/AD return for Lillard, and it would be malpractice for weaver to give up that many picks (I think Tellem would stop him from bankrupting the franchise).

Also, from Portlands pov, it’d be Ausar Thompson (not Amen), who’s by all accounts a tick below his twin as an athlete and playmaker. Minor thing, but important. Like it’s possible Ausar is never as good as Tyler Herro is now - hence the question of where this significantly better package for Lillard is.

Any news on RFA PJ Washington? Surprised some team hasn't thrown a full MLE offer his way. I guess I wonder whether he would even accept that, for his QO is like 8 million I think. Makes for a fascinating game of cat and mouse

With regard to Most, I am reading Shsughnessy’s new book about the 1980’s Celtics, and he very openly states that Most was having prostitutes visit him in every city on the road.

That doesn’t seem at all surprising. Johnny wasn’t exactly what our society would call physically attractive.

I don't think he will accept the full MLE. I suspect he takes the QO and leaves as a UFA next summer.

I guess their is still a chance they take some other team's trash in a sign and trade. the front office is that bad

In fairness, though, Amen is an even worse shooter than his brother. They both have a long way to go.

Not picking on you at all, and maybe it’s just my dislike of Shank, but it’s odd to me to include this bit of prurient detail about a dead man in a book I assume was written this side of the 1960s.

Agreed. Nobody needs to know that. It'd be dubious if Red were the subject of this story, nevermind the radio guy. Shank just trying to make everyone as miserable as he is.

Did he like two at a time and call the ladies "McFilthy" and "McNasty"?

If he has any foot pain/injury whatsoever, I cannot imagine the Celtics would be OK with him playing.

That's some big disrespect for the Celtics. Not in primetime?
Not convinced that's the order. I remember being convinced last year Cs would go early and they were third at 5pm.

Also, does prime time even matter on Christmas? Does viewership drop as people go home/crash after their kids have been up since 4:30?

At the end of the video, he dunked two different times, and both times he landed on his left foot only.

That’s pretty close to the 10 best teams right now I think, maybe drop DAL and add SAC or MEM or CLE but even DAL has Luka and Krazy Kyrie and is a bigger market too.

James Harden: “Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of. Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”
Unfortunately I doubt the Sixers were dumb enough to put their "wink wink" deal in writing because otherwise it would be beautiful to see Harden blow up that franchise.

Even Harden cooperating with a league investigation might be enough to do the job. There would be a lot of he-said-she-said, but that would probably lead to a number of parties who were aware of the deal and who might corroborate.

Joe Smith didn't get punished by Stern when that incident happened, right?

If there was any wink-wink deal, Harden doesn't have much to lose by telling everything he knows to the league. His contract might be voided, but that lets him pick his destination without having to sit out in Philly.

If he wants to keep his money this year, the threat of such an investigation probably gets him traded to LAC for pennies on the dollar.

The 76ers are about to implode. Embiid has already not-so-subtly put them on notice and this won't help at all.

Yeah, at least Morey faces a monumental near-term (next 6-8 week) challenge in getting these guys back on-sides or else it is all going to fall apart.

I'll lay out three scenarios.....

1) Harden to magically say "all is forgiven" which seems unlikely, but he's capable of a fast reversal---this may all be posturing (though my best guess is not)
2) Harden trade to happen which somehow brings back credible "second star" level talent. Only scenario on my radar for this is if Paul George asks for an extension and is turned down, then asks for a trade. Otherwise...i just can't see it right now around leagu
3) Maybe just a different version of "fall apart" but Morey could have a series of moves to execute involving Embiid and Harden and Harris out and younger players/picks inbound to reset around Maxey. Not inconceivable to me; I am lower on Embiid than many of you and so I naturally suspect Morey may also be suspicious of the future

The fourth is "Harden digs in his feet" which I expect will lead to some combination of a 45-ish win roster and Embiid getting very frustrated very quickly

The problem with scenario 3 is that it wouldn't be a Morey decision: ownership would have to be 100% on-board. Embiid is the most popular Sixer in a long time, and I'm guessing ownership would do anything possible to keep him, regardless of Morey's talent evaluation.

This feels like James has the goods on Morey. Ownership might force him to trade him now

So, you are saying that they need some sort of process to rebuild the team?
