Man, I don’t think Embid is ever going to come close to winning a title in Philly. If I was the Sixers, I’d try to raid Orlando’s cupboard in a Danny Ainge style trade for Embid. Of course I don’t like Embid’s game or on court personality and generally despise the Sixers so I’d rather they hold on to him until the team implodes. PS - after Embid is traded, then trade Harden.

I thought that the Rockets rumors were never very serious and were more likely attempts by Harden to get more leverage in his negotiations with Philly.
I have read and heard reporting to the contrary, but even if Houston's interest was simply a rumor fed by Harden's camp, the point stands. If there was a wink wink deal that the "liar" Morey reneged on, why would Harden need Houston as stalking horse, real or otherwise.

It may have become clear to Harden last winter that the renege was going to happen, and that's when he started trying to drum up leverage.

That's some big disrespect for the Celtics. Not in primetime?
For those of us with kids that can't wake up before 10:00 a.m. in the summer, but somehow snap to attention at 6:00 a.m. on Christmas morning, I consider around 5:00 p.m. to be prime time on Christmas Day.

I'm not saying that shenanigans didn't happen, but gotta love the idea that the Knicks think that someone is onto their secret sauce. It's like Taco Bell suing someone for stealing their chalupa formula.
It's probably time to stop making fun of the Knicks (at least temporarily), they beat the Celtics the last three times they met last season and they might have gone even farther than the second round if they'd been healthier.

Knicks are good for a couple of seasons of somewhat competent play every 10 years or so. I'll buy in when it becomes more than that. Dolan still owns the team.

They also might have been swept if Jimmy had been healthy, but that's neither here nor there.

It was the Knicks' best season in a full 10 years, and their 2nd best season in 23 years. That's what 47 regular season wins, a 5 seed and 6 playoff wins meant to them, a team that should be an A list FA destination and has an advantage that any team outside of LA would be envious of. They're currently 15th in title odds for next year, and are projected to win around 46 games. They are not currently the same joke they've been almost nonstop for the last 2+ decades, but until they enjoy some (any) level of sustained playoff success, they are definitely still a joke.

My main point was "who is really trying to steal the Knicks' secret formula IP?", not a Knicks pile-on. Maybe they're on the way up. Just seemed funny that someone desperately wants to know how to duplicate a franchise that hasn't won a title since Watergate.

Kidding aside (and let's be honest---"The Knicks have upside this year" has a pretty sorry history on this board) the Knicks could absolutely have something innovative/interesting analytically that they've done. There's tons of analytical questions teams must be looking at, and the answers to any one or two of them don't make you a dynasty but all the insights do matter. So whoever that guy is he really might have unique stuff on (just making up these topics/concepts) optimal rest for various injuries; projecting really young players physically; charting defenses; using video tools to better understand decision making....who knows? Moneyball didn't start with "we're already the best" it started with "we stink and need to try some new things"

Whether this guy has done anything interesting/unique I have absolutely zero clue, but the team's limited success and questionable upside doesn't really mean he cannot ...

I have no idea how this stuff works, but this was odd to me: "the Knicks also alleged that members of the Raptors "directed Azotam to misuse his access to the Knicks' subscription to Synergy Sports to create and then transfer to the Raptors Defendants over 3,000 files consisting of film information and data." Isn't Synergy something that even media folks like KOC have access to?

Yea, but the Knicks were paying for the $4.95/monthly subscription!

stupid move by the kid, this will probably cost him the job with the Raptors

The whole suit reeks of Dolan culture sour grapes at an employee leaving. Sure, maybe the guy is a cock for the way that he went about it, but a suit really? Not at all surprising actually.

Eh. If the guy really did send the Raptors a shitload of internal data from the Knicks, and the Raptors were in on it, this sounds closer to the Cardinals hacking scandal than some kind of minor thing.

Edit: If so, Dolan being a complete and total douche, which it totally true, really isn't relevant

Frankly, the employee is an utter moron. Every investment bank I ever worked at would track employee email/files when they left for a competitor (this was over a decade ago). Every few years a trader/salesman would get caught sending models/trade data to a new email they set up. Reported to FSA, regulatory agencies & out of the industry.

If the guy knew, & understood the Knick models & was using Synergy he probably could have replicated enough of the data over a couple of months of hard work without stealing files.

Probably wears absurdly BIG Collars

Yeah, I agree, stealing/transferring data is an obvious no-no...and if Raptors knew or requested it they are going to be deservedly hammered for it. Doesn't matter if data is actually unique, or whatever Dolan did....you can't have people doing that in "real world" or in sports. Trade secrets and confidentiality are a thing.

Though, I guess not impossible Knicks didn't actually get the guy to sign anything? A bit hard to believe, but not inconceivable.

Pels are giving away $1M if they win in-season tourney: https://www.si.com/nba/pelicans/basketball/pelicans-announce-1-million-dollar-sweepstakes-for-nba-in-season-tournament.

Evidently, the main way t8 get entries is to attend home games with bonus entries for attending all three home games. 100 fans will receive $10K each.
"Those fans who legally obtain one mobile ticket and attend a game automatically receive a total of 1,000 entries per game. If New Orleans hosts a Quarterfinals game, the participants who attend all three In-Season Tournament home games will receive an additional 2,000 entries. The maximum number of entries is 5,000."

All the attention is [rightfully] on Embiid in this regard, but if the Bucks have another premature playoff exit (a constant theme since Giannis ascended to MVP, outside of their title year), these rumors are going to get pretty loud. I can't possibly see the Bucks trading the best player in franchise history, but if they lose again in the 1st or 2nd round next year, with the majority of their core past their prime and Giannis with just one year left on his deal, they'll have some tough decisions to make.

OKC waives TyTy Washington, the 29th pick of the 22 draft. As this article - https://deadspin.com/nba-draft-picks-okc-thunder-houston-rockets-ohtani-mlb-1850754628 - points out, OKC has and HOU will have a glut of draft picks to make without many roster spots. For example, OKC has 20 players under contract right now and have to get to 16 pretty soon.
It is possible OKC will end up with a glut of draft picks and will have to waive good players at some point. TyTy Washington is not that point (nor is Garuba who they also waived ). It is possible either might develop into a player, but both players were traded along with draft picks twice this offseason from teams as a salary dump.

OKC does still have to waive 3 more people, and maybe a couple will get picked up for the minimum or on a 2 way deal somewhere, but it seems unlikely that they will waive anyone that anyone would claim. Most likely it would be Jerome Robinson Earl, Jack White, and Victor Olidipo. I guess it is possible they deal someone in the 12-15 range and keep White or JRE. .

They do have a glut of picks. They will likely end up doing a lot of deals like they did with Denver this year, where they move picks down the road 6 years. The 25 second round picks may be harder to deal with, but they will also get throw around for futures, and

It is not in the Bucks’ DNA to trade the best player in franchise history, except for Kareem.

Wilt Chamberlain’s house in LA is on the market. Perfect for the very tall buyer.

We have seen this movie before. Giannis will end up as a Laker

Hah, touché. I half expect some team to throw a few million at Thanasis next summer to boost their shot.

Hopefully Rondo is getting his shit together including getting his anger management under control.

Mother of Rajon Rondo's children granted an emergency protective order

In a statement filed with the request, Bachelor said Rondo was playing video games with their son May 11 when she asked the child to finish separating his laundry. Bachelor said Rondo became "enraged" and "ripped the video game console from the wall" when their son got up from the game to complete the task.

Her statement says Rondo then smashed a tea cup plate in front of their daughter, knocked over "various items" in the home office and trash cans outside before pulling his car onto a lawn.
Bachelor said in the statement when she asked Rondo "why he was acting this way," he responded, "You're dead." Bachelor said she contacted former police chief Yvette Gentry for assistance, opting not to call police for fear "of what Rajon might do if a formal report was made."

Rondo left after that call, according to the statement, but returned 15 minutes later and began "beating on the backdoor window with his gun." Bachelor said she told Rondo he was scaring her, to which he yelled "Go get my (expletive) son."

In the report, Bachelor said she brought their son and allowed Rondo to see him through the door, and "before I knew it" their son "began opening the door." Bachelor said Rondo grabbed their son, "yanked him outside and slammed the door shut behind him."

According to the statement, Rondo, while holding a gun, "began yelling and cursing" at their son and "asking why he was afraid of him." Eventually, Rondo was "yelling and cursing at both children, demanding to know why they were scared of him and effectively holding them at gun point," Bachelor said in her statement.

NBA ref Eric Lewis retired today. In other news, the Celtics are no longer the favorites to win the 2023-24 NBA title.
