Giancarlo Stanton Traded To Yankees

deep inside Guido territory
Castro + Headley isn't enough. The rumors of $50 going back to the Giants doesn't make sense if the Yankees are giving them $34m back + a tradable asset in Castro. That's probably why they're insisting on Ellsbury.
Stanton is $25 million. Headley/Castro cost $21.6 million this year. Headley is off the books after 18 and Castro is a cheaper vet player to add to team for 2 years. As Joel Sherman says, even if Miami has to eat $4 million a year on Stanton’s deal that may be the best they can do.

So something like:

Castro
Headley
Frazier
Adams or Montgomery

Plus let Denbo pick a couple of deep sleepers from the system he helped build, I think NY could pick up all of Stanton's contract (they have a good amount of wiggle room still even with CC not signed) and that is in the ballpark anyway.

Also if Montgomery is in this deal as rumored and it happens, I have to think that Cashman and CC have already basically agreed on a deal but are waiting for the right time to announce it, and then even still that would make German or Adams the 5th starter as of now. Maybe this will be the year Chance gets his chance...

As Sherman noted, if the Yankees land Stanton, this will have an Arod in 2003 feel to it. Bring it on I guess.

Keep in mind that even if #Marlins #Yankees are in agreement both sides will remain disciplined quiet until Stanton takes NYY physical, which is not a rubber stamp because he has had injuries dating to football and high school.

If #Yankees or any team failed Stanton on a physical, well, you think the #Marlins lack leverage now? That is why I think teams even with an agreement in place would remain silent until every detail completed

I'm up working late and haven't checked any news since about 10pm .

This certainly progressed quickly

(Though I still want Alex Cobb regardless of draft picks lost :) )

Moving Castro was one of my main hopes this offseason, that would be great. Wade and Torreyes can handle it until Torres is ready in May or June, so much of an easier transition than if Castro was still around.

So, lets get the commissioner to enact the Joe Rudi Rollie Fingers situation! Oh Well, this hurts, but at leats no Machado or Harper, and back in salary cap hell I guess.

Some fancy town in CT
Year 1 - Idiot GM/Owner signs player to ridiculous contract
Year 2 - Team finds it now can't sign other players due to payroll issues
Year 3 - Team finds out one man can't carry the team
Year 4 - Team unloads player to MFYs for 10 cents on the dollar

Lather, rinse, effing repeat.

Really depends on how much $$ MIA is sending to MFY.
Don't think Stanton is worth his contract given he isn't likely going to be healthy for more than 65% of it.

How do you sell this to the Miami fan base without top prospects coming back? That's why I thought this deal wouldn't get done.

Why would Miami send NY a dime? The players aren't anything special and Stanton is the reigning NL MVP?

What fanbase?

28th in attendance despite a new stadium and a couple exciting players.

If I’m reading Correctly Castro will make 10 million this year so that offsets some of the Stanton contract

I can honestly say that I haven’t really seen Stanton play other than whatever highlights I’ve caught on any given day. Part of me looks forward to seeing him more and the other part of me hopes he is saddled with nagging injuries that prevent him from gaining any consistency in 2018.

Ok, but now there's literally no reason to go to the ballpark. The Marlins just traded their greatest asset for salary relief. Was this even a move that needed to be made right now?

Living in NY, all I've heard on sports radio the past few weeks is "The Yankees don't need Stanton, and why would you them to pay him" etc etc

Listening to the complete 180 on those positions is literally going to be the only highlight when this becomes official.

There were reports yesterday that teams were calling on Machado. No reason Cashman shouldn’t offer the O’s Frazier/Andujar/Adams and try to lock him up before he hits FA.

Well, there is no reason why Machado is going to give them a discount one year from being a FA. So trade some talent and then pony up $3-400 million? Sure.
