Buddy of mine was talking to an older minor leaguer a few weeks ago whose been teammates with a lot of the young guys up with the team now.
He told him that the players hated girardi

Francesca claims that he’s been hearing rumblings since May between front office and Girardi and also mentioned that some players did not like him.
I’m sure Cashman knows exactly who he wants by now if that’s the case

I think there is as much chance of me being hired as there is of A-Rod being hired, no one genuinely likes that guy except maybe J-Lo.

I mentioned Pedrique here a couple of days ago, he's managed a lot of the current young Yankees as well as the upcoming ones, but I wonder if at 57 he might be a little too old.

Until they hire a new manager, the paranoid Sox fan in me will be dreading a Cora press conference to announce that he's quitting as "the M of the BRS."

Pulled from that piece, here is Sherman's speculation on who they might hire:

So current bench coach Rob Thomson could be in play, as could former hitting coach Kevin Long — though, no pun intended, I think he would be a long shot. Yankees people really like Josh Paul, whose minor league work with Gary Sanchez was praised, and Reggie Willits, a minor league hitting coach and baserunning guru particularly liked by Gary Denbo, who recently left for Derek Jeter’s Marlins front office.
I guess they don't work on blocking pitches and catching throws in the minors. :)

I know that was somewhat in jest, but Sanchez's main issue is that he bulked up in between 2016 and 2017 and he was already big for a catcher. He had no issues with pitch blocking in the two months he was up in 2016, FWIW.

I clearly know basically nothing about this, but I think I'm rooting for Raul Ibanez.

I have always respected Cashman, and making this move only increases that. He's taking a huge gamble here.

Kind of surprised Dave Martinez hasn't been mentioned yet, but I don't know if he has any relationship with Cashman.

Listening to Francesa explain "analytics" to callers is hilarious. "It's not pitching matchups...its complex....and different ways of...the lineups and looking at things like that."

Kay mentioned on ESPN that Cashman is close to Pete Mackanin from his time as a scout but he doesn't really seem to fit with the analytics crowd and he's much older (66).

Trey Hillman is interesting also, it would be pretty funny if the Yankees and Red Sox hired Houston's last two bench coaches as managers in the same offseason.

Difference is that BOS had a bunch of young guys underperform from last year, and the MFYs, well, didn't.
Betts and Bogaerts (and apparently ERod) were hurt. Devers was fine. Benintendi was fine. Vazquez was fine. JBJ seemed to be really the only inexplicable dropoff among the Yutes.

But regardless of the details, it may be that neither management saw either guy as they guy to lead them forward. (just guessing, like everyone else, in response to the observation that 3 successful managers were turfed).

So much of today’s game is analytics and tip toeing around the kids who have been coddled since their first showcase. The Perfect Game USA generation.

That may be stretching it. I mean, sure Girardi could apparently be a hard-ass, but Dusty? He's in the running for the Nicest Guy in Baseball.

Part of me wonders it's less the coddling thing than the analytics. If you are a young player and your coach is "going with his gut" instead of trusting you in a situation ... well, I could get not being excited about that.

All the speculation and suggestions seem to make it clear Cashman gets to decide and is apparently not being fettered by the need to select someone with 'necessary existing gravitas to merit pinstripes'. I sincerely hope this is true because nobody could possibly be more deserving of this freedom and control than Brian. Let him craft his masterpiece, until further notice I believe.

Yeah, Cashman doesn't actually own the team, but right now he owns this team, from top to bottom, and I'm very happy with that.

I wonder if David Cone would be a candidate, although he might be better as a pitching coach or some kind of assistant. Really big fan of his, though.

Today I learned that a dink is a partner in a well-off working couple with no children.
I learned that last week at a dinner with a bunch of very liberal people. Guy called his two gay friends dinks. Sounded homophobic, but then he spelled out the acronym.

So there are games tomorrow through Sunday, Monday is the next off day and I wouldn't be surprised if NY announced their new manager then, although I'm sure rumors will be flying fast and furious until then.

Curtis Granderson would be my choice.

Joel Sherman wrote an article 2 days ago, saying that he doesn't want to manage.but that was before the Yankees had an opening. He knows the organization and is perfect in interviews/ media relations.

Ooh, good call, I love that guy. I think he wants to keep playing if he can, though.

Raul Ibanez, Kevin Long as hitting coach (at a major raise from whatever the Mets are paying) and David Cone as pitching coach, make it happen Cash.

One of Pena/Espada/Thomson can be bench coach for at least one year for a little continuity.
