Apparently he has a house in Scottsdale and an offspring going to college in AZ.

Can't blame him. 70 big ones. Getting away from Lumer Loni has to be worth something by itself.

I sort of agree with your take with regards to Dale, but Orway is 70. Maybe he was nudged out, but he has enough money I'm sure there wasn't much pushback.
I don't disagree. But there's no way Glenn came to this decision entirely on his own.

With Dale if you look at his Twitter bio it says something to the effect of "25 years in Boston sports radio".
No mention of Entercom or WEEI is damning.

I remember Ordway in the early 1980s, sitting alone in the Garden press room, getting ready for three hours with Johnny Most. Tough job.

Big O's last day is today for anyone interested.
Getting to the end of your working career is a strange day for all of us. You do something for 40 or 50 years …and then what? Sadly, Ordway will probably not walk away completely. But he should. Retirement is bliss. Go do what makes you happy, Glenn.

I believe he'd still be doing the Pats post game stuff w/ Fred & Steve. And also some radio stuff, although remote from his place in Arizona.

Ordway was mostly an insufferable clown, IMO. But the last time I had a traditional, daily work commute, 2005-2010-ish, I did used to enjoy getting in the car on Monday afternoons, and listening to the weekly interview with BB, with him, Fred, and Steve. Particularly late season, driving in the dark with all the xmas lights on. Oddly nostalgic for that today. Otherwise, hadn't really listened to his show in a few years.

I used to listen to him every day when I got home from high school. I would fall asleep to EEI from ages 12-18. All these years later it feels weird to me that I just don't care that it's over. I look forward to seeing what Merloni does going forward, he's probably my favorite sports radio host in Boston along with Keefe.

I recall Ordway mostly for being Johnny Most's partner and sometimes foil. And The Big Show had its moments during its heyday. Hope he enjoys retired life.

Another I remember in the late 80's or early 90's the Celts were playing a European team and Johnny admitted he had trouble pronouncing the names so he kept calling them....."gets the ball to number 20, passes it to number 40, number 13 shoots....." And you hear Ordway cracking up in the back round.

John Dennis called in?
I've been curious about him for awhile, he went completely silent on twitter quite awhile ago, seemed ominous considering how much he used to post there.

Do you remember which hour it was when he called?

edit: found it, hour 3 https://www.audacy.com/weei/authors/ordway-merloni-and-fauria
Check out minute 26. https://www.audacy.com/weei/podcasts/ordway-merloni-fauria-20493/omf-goodbye-glenn-voice-man-jim-cutler-john-dennis-gerry-callahan-and-the-ordway-daughters-686622613

I thought the Big Show was good right up until around when the Globe banned its personalities from appearing on it. That's when they started just rolling out Glenn's incompetent buddies day after day and the product went to shit. It's not that Shaughnessy was so great, but at least he was literate.

Yeah, as great as Johnny was, he treated Ordway pretty badly, often ignoring and just talking over him. I remember a Shaughnessy article about them arguing I was able to dig up:

"Johnny once got into a courtside shouting match with colleague Glenn Ordway, and the joust ended when Johnny said, "I'm the show. That you were, Johnny"

I was never a big Ordway fan until his Big O 'EEI days - and especially later as he used to talk over everyone early on. But he eventually became a great host - smart, insightful and always willing to tell it like it is. Hope they find a good replacement - any chance they'd bring Jerry Thornton back?

That is a good, rational post on Glenn, who was so influential in developing sports talk radio in Boston. I thought he was good early on but like most radio jocks he became overexposed and people turned on him.
Leigh Montville has great insights on Johnny Most in his new book, “Tall Men, Short Shorts” that deals with the 1969 Celtics-Lakers series. Wonderful book full of hoop and newspaper/media insights from that era.

I definitely enjoyed his show all those years during the afternoon drive from about 2000 to 2007 or so. And I'll admit to getting a kick out of the Whiner Line (Frank from Gloucester, the Ghost of Harry Caray and the Bill Walton impersonator in particularly). But it really started to get stale after a while. When Michael Felger is a huge breath of fresh air (whether on 1510 or later the Sports Hub), it's time to move on. Never really listened to the more recent incarnation, but I don't know if I'm feeling more nostalgic for the show itself, for that era in Boston sports or for my 30s in general.

This seems about right. I think I hung on for a while but once the internet radio and then podcasts emerged, I realized how bad WEEI was. I couldn't tell you the last time I listened to "sports radio".
