For some unknown reason River and Boca thought it would be a good idea to play a "friendly" over the weekend.

The match finished 9 on 8. 9 yellows and 5 reds were handed out. Tevez got headbutted, and one of the keepers got hit with something thrown from the crowd.

The best part? They are scheduled to play again on Saturday..

PSG has already clinched Ligue 1. They are 25 points up with 8 games left. They wrapped up the title yesterday by beating bottom club Troyes 0-9.

ZLATAN has said he will be leaving the club, but would stay if the Eiffel Tower is replaced with a statue of him.

Sleaford Town's twitter feed came to an unfortunate end when the guy running it was subbed into the match:

How much is Leicester City going to make, by being top four, and going to champions league next year?

This table has predicted payouts. So if Leicester win the league they get £54.1m as an equal share of the TV money; £24.7m for winning the league; and £12.1m for facility fee. So an estimated £90.9m if they win the league, but it might be more now that all their remaining games are going to be live on Sky. And that's not accounting for how much they would get for their European matches, but that's next season. Either way, they're doing okay.

In 2005, Red Bull bought Austria Salzburg and changed its name, crest, and colors to create the club we know as Red Bull Salzburg.
For a while in the 1970s-1990s, the same club was known as Casino Salzburg. In 1995 ajax won the champions league. During the tournament, they played a home-and-away against Casino Salzburg and if it had been a knock-out round Salzburg would have progressed, if I recall correctly.

Funny to see the Heracles fans in a skybox. We were upgraded once to the dugout during a friendly tournament a thousand miles from home.

North Korea appoints former Bundesliga striker Jorn Andersen as manager

SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- North Korea have reportedly appointed former Bundesliga top scorer Jorn Andersen to lead their national football team, Norwegian media reported on Wednesday (local time).

According to Norway's state broadcaster NRK, Andersen signed a one-year contract with North Korea. His family told NRK that the 53-year-old coach had been in the communist state for two weeks. They said that North Korea had been looking for a German coach. Andersen, who was born in Fredrikstad, southern Norway, became a German citizen in 1993.

If the move is confirmed, Andersen will replace North Korean-born Kim Chang-bok. North Korea, currently 112th in FIFA rankings, are already out for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

It'd make for an interesting poll, "how much would North Korea have to pay you to coach their national football team", what with the eternal threat of being disappeared for a bad loss.

The 2017 US Open Cup's First Qualifying Round will begin on September 10, 2016. The 2016 US Open Cup Final will be held on September 21.

Because some teams from leagues outside the US pyramid are still alive in the 2016 US Open Cup (including the Bay State Soccer League Div 2's Southie FC, home field: Joe Moakley Park), there is technically a chance that a team is eliminated from the 2017 US Open Cup before it completes its run in the 2016 US Open Cup.

Southie FC plays the Rochester Rhinos next Wednesday, so this may not be the case for long.

I worked next to one of the guys on Southie FC for the past year, kind of nuts that they're still in it.

Now excuse me while I send him a hand-written letter

I did some design work for the BSSL, one of the leagues that Southie FC is in. From what I understand they are kind of a powerhouse at that level.

So Bob Bradley and Le Havre needed to make up 3 points and a 6 goal differential to go up. Currently picked up 4, might actually have a shot.

Correction because of the tiebreaker they might need to make up 7.
46th minute up 3-0 on ten man BP. Metz trails 0-1 against Lens.

Le Havre up 5-0 with 10 mins to go. Need 1 more. Some people jumped from the stands onto the pitch, there might be a riot. What the hell is going on?

edit: this is the first Ligue 2 game I've ever watched, and it looks like an MLS game. no passing vision, a bunch of route-1 balls, and inconsistent officiating.

Oof. Missed on the goals scored tiebreaker. Wonder if Bradley stays or if he finally gets an offer in a top league?

Yeah, more of a slight as opposed to marked bump. Scoring was up though, from 16 in 14 (1.14 gpg) to 36 goals in 24 (1.5 gpg) while goals allowed went from 12/14 to 25/24 (.86 to 1.04). I'm not sure if the early season results were sustainable given the closer GD, but difficult to compare in-season changes because of differing opposition.

Kosovo and Gibraltar were voted full membership in FIFA on Friday. They are eligible for 2018 World cup, so looks like UEFA qualifying will have 9 groups of 6

A lot of players on other NTs are eligible to switch to Kosovo, like Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, Valon Behrami. I think Adnan Januzaj is also eligible since his father is from Kosovo. A bunch of Kosovars play for Albania as well.

Is FIFA exempting Kosovo from normal cap-tying rules since they didn't exist as a recognized entity until just now?

BBC says it will be on a case-by-case basis http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36290169

A player with dual nationality who has played for one national team is unable to switch to his second country, but in Kosovo's case Fifa is expected to look at individuals on a case-by-case basis.
Not exactly sure of the timeline, but I've seen reports of players saying they'll choose after the Euros.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36227640
BBC Sport understands there is a very good chance Fifa will give Kosovan footballers who play for other national teams the unprecedented choice of switching.

Speaking to BBC World Service's World Football show, Kuqi - who played for 11 British clubs - added: "Those players playing for Switzerland have been in World Cups and European Championships. "It's not easy to turn your back. It's a personal view. Some might like to play for Kosovo and some would probably like to carry on as they are."
Here's one about Januzaj

Sadly, they are not a powerhouse at USL level; they lost 7-0 to Rochester last night.

Nevertheless, the dream of having a club eliminated from the 2017 Open Cup before they play the 2016 Open Cup final lives on! Four Open Division qualifiers remain:

Lansdowne Bhoys FC (Yonkers, NY) beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL, 2-0.
La Maquina FC (Orange County, CA) beat the Sacramento Gold of the NPSL, 2-0.
L.A. Wolves (presumably not Jack Kent Cooke's transplanted Wolverhampton) beat Orange County FC of the USL on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
The New York Pancyprian-Freedoms play the Jersey Express tonight in the last match of the second round.

And while Lansdowne Bhoys get Rochester in the third round, La Maquina plays L.A. Wolves next, so the Open Division will survive until at least the fourth round. (The Pancyprian-Freedoms, incidentally, would get the Cosmos next.)

The New York Pancyprian-Freedoms are three-time USOC champs, all in the early 1980s.

One year they made the CONCACAF club semi-finals, where they and their opponents were disqualified because they couldn't figure out dates to play. That handed the title to a club from Haiti in a walkover.

Talk about a different time.

Holy crap. That equal-share (22M) and overseas TV (29.4M) numbers, plus the central-commercial bit (4.5M) swamp the popularity-dependent piece (facility fees) to a degree I had not fully appreciated.

Could probably go in "the premier league's new financial landscape" thread. But to what degree do those numbers dwarf that of the Championship?

Serbia FA appealed Kosovo's UEFA membership.

Also, I didn't know this but non-window emergency loans are banned starting this summer. These occur more with lower level clubs but a lot of them will have issues. I wonder if that's one reason the Football League wants divisions to go from 24 teams to 20 teams

The average PL salary in 14-15 was 1.7m, while the Championship was 324K. That's not the income (and its before the new deal sets in), but it gives you an idea about the gap.

Sky Sports has a TV deal with the whole Football League, I think money is distributed down the league, with the Championship receiving a significant amount (70%?) and the other leagues getting the rest. I don't know what the deal is, but it pales in comparison to the PL for sure, and I think the salaries show some of that.

To get into the Top 30 of the Deloitte 2015 Football Rich List, a global club ranking by revenue, a club needed to bring in 117.6M euros. Six EPL clubs--Arsenal, Man U, Man City, Spurs, Leicester, and Liverpool--earned enough TV money this year to clear that bar. Villa, which got the lowest payments, got two-thirds of the way to the Top 30 just on TV money. And this is before a single sponsorship, match ticket, or pie is sold, and before European club competition payments are factored in.

Everyone in the EPL is playing at a different financial level from anyone except the Firma Vieja and Bayern.
