Wait Wait Wait, there is another Brandon Marshall who plays for the Broncos who is accused of domestic abuse?

Quick someone tell me last week's lottery numbers.

She will only strengthen owners' support for Goodell.

It will be like Martha Burk vs Hootie Johnson x 1,000,000

In a community of 2,500 young men who share a culture where athletes receive hero worship from an early age, you'll find quite a few overly aggressive people. Interesting that we've somehow managed to shame the biggest sports league in the world into something entirely different.

At some point, people are going to notice that, so far, it's African-American players losing their jobs. Maybe Allred can dredge up something different, but if it is Brandon Marshall (who has done a lot of maturing in recent years) and a seven-year-old incident, we may already be near a tipping point for this approach.

This is not going well. Would've been better if a reporter had happened to track them down and reported their story. The press conference looks too staged like they're trying too hard.

Wow, he's been arrested at least five times. How is he still in the NFL?

Because Brandon Marshall is so good at catching footballs and there has never been on video of him beating a woman

where the darn libs live
I mean... isn't this old news?

On top of this, isn't it well-documented that Marshall has a ton of mental issues that were undiagmosed at the time and could very well be where all of this stemmed from?

That's not a defense or an excuse, but Marshall's got a major mental disorder.

Edit: ahh.  So this is about Goodell, not Marshall.

Ya, the dad's statement is much better.

It's Gloria Allred. She's pretty well known for staging conferences that look like they are trying too hard. She's not an agent for good or for change, she's an agent for herself. Like Rusty Hardin.

This was my thought when this thread was started.

Her decision to pile on at the precise moment when Goodell was most vulnerable will only strengthen him.  Even worse, it will deflect attention from the actual problem of DV and make it all about Gloria Allred.

The relevant revelation revealed is the unanswered letter. Point being, when victims and their families have reached out to the NFL it has been ignored.

"She's just not here," Gloria Allred on why the primary victim is not there

Edit - It is my opinion that Gloria Allred is hurting, and not helping, the national discussion on domestic violence which is the only good that has come from this entire disgusting mess. She just mentioned her Title IV experience and requested that the reporters 'google her.' The decision of Gloria Allred to turn this into content marketing is filthy

Clearly they're jumping on Goodell here and I'm not disputing anything said by those speaking, but back then they contacted Marshall's employers over his actions? They wrote letters to the NFL commissioners? What if anything were the legal ramifications from these incidents? My beef back then would be FIRST AND FOREMOST with the police.

Right. And this is important news. It would've been better not to come out in a press conference.

RE: Brandon Marshall news RT @RyFo18: they are alleging that goodell was contacted about the abuse and never did anything

HE SUSPENDED HIM

Edit - Sure it was only for one game, and made him play a game for free.  The point remains Goodell did something.  It was enough to make Marshall stay away from Watley

Edit #2 - Instead he married an even more volatile woman who stabbed him.  He also accidentally punched a woman in the face at Marquee.  He has been good after getting on his BPD meds.

Yes. It sounded bad when the dad said he holds the Broncos and Goodell responsible for Marshall's continued abuse of his daughter.

So you're saying it will all go according to her plan then.

This dog and pony show is silly.  Old school thinking from Allred with this press conference.  Just feed this story to a reporter and let it run wild on Twitter.  It wouldn't seem so contrived.

Allred is a self-promoting jackass, but I think the press conference also has to do with putting faces to the claims.  Ray Rice got two games until the video showed up, so by having a father and a best friend choking up while recounting their experiences is pretty clearly intended to provide faces to the issue.

edit: it is failing in the attempt, as noted.

I read the first line in Carly Simon's voice.  The second line had Mick Jagger providing background vocals.

If anything this helps Goodell.  Look at the new clown.  Far louder and shinier than the old clown.

I'm confused by this statement. Are you saying that these men who beat and abused their significant others shouldn't be in trouble because they are black? Because, ummm....

Allred is horrible, I think we all understand that, but if these abused women now start to feel empowered or goaded by high-power egomaniacs to come out and talk about their stories...

Not good for the NFL.

I have noticed this. Goodell's desire to police the criminality of the players - a centerpiece of his tenure - has more than a whiff of wanting to keep "those people" in line.

I don't see how Roethlisberger's suspension in the face of zero charges jives with this interpretation.

Again, I think this is interesting that you are hinting at racism here. What evidence do you have? Goodell has shown a desire to police everything during his tenure, just not black players. Spygate, which involved a white coach, and bountygate, which involved black and white players alike, and ended up with a white coach being suspended for an entire year. Goodell has enjoyed being judge, jury, and executioner during his entire reign as NFL commissioner, and has gone after anything or anyone he feels like. In fact, in stark contrast to your hints or racism, it appears he's tried to cover up for players(who happened to be black) domestic violence in the past.

I think your statement says alot more about you than Goodell. You've tried turned this from a domestic violence issue into a race issue. Domestic violence crosses all sexual, race, and nationality boundaries. I'm sure there are white players in the NFL who have abused partners, and that will come out in time. Maybe even a samoan! But until then, we should probably disregard any reports about black players abusing women until 4 or 5 complaints regard white players so the race scorecard is even.

Maybe I because I am ex Military, but it seems to me that the NFL at the team level should have some sort of family support system in place like an Ombudsman where wives/girlfriends/family can go for some help if one of the players is abusive at home.    The NFL, like the military is a violent career and some folks have trouble turning off the switch.
