Well, first, you should immediately change your password, enable 2FA, and revoke access to all other devices.

IS it possible I got some kind of virus? I'm now seeing a bunch of "message send failure" emails to people I didn't send emails to
Echoing above, change pw, revoke access to all devices. I’m a paranoid type so I’d wipe my phone and start fresh, download Google Authenticator and enable 2FA.

You can check your logins, too. Agree with the above regardless, but you should be able to tell if someone accessed the account.

I did all that. Can someone give me a quick response as to why I found them in IMAP ive never had that turned on before?

EDIT: I'm a dummy, I don't know the difference between POP and IMAP, but they were in IMAP trash can

POP downloads the emails to your device. They are then removed from the server. IMAP leaves them on the server so you can read them from any device or computer wherever you are. To me the whole point of web based email like Google is to use IMAP.

Not to be a wise guy, but I have lost thousands of emails before and found that I didn't need them. Unless they contain the nuclear codes, once I read and reply they serve no purpose. YMMV and good luck.

No I’m pretty much same boat I don’t keep more than like 25-50 in inbox and half of those are basically there as reminders. There’s was just two I specifically wanted I recovered the important one, the other was more for posterity but it’s not a huge deal. I got the file I needed.

I hope you've already changed your password and enabled 2-factor authentication. Have you? That's kinda the first-thing, do-it-yesterday task. Then once you know that only you can access your account, you'll know that it's just down to you and whatever you're doing.

I doubt you did anything wrong. Are you viewing your gmail at gmail or thru a client like Outlook?
At Gmail they don't appear either; I was looking at them through Mail on Apple, but went straight to the site and gone.
