Well, it does tell you what to do right there in the article you linked to

Those who are concerned can check their device is running the updated version of Google Chrome by opening a window and clicking on the three vertical dots in the right-hand corner.

Clicking “help”, followed by “about Google Chrome” in the drop down menu will lead to a page that will assist with updating.

I checked mine earlier and I was already updated. Probably likely you are auto-updating too.

To update Google Chrome:
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More
    .
  3. Click Update Google Chrome. If you don't see this button, you're on the latest version.
  4. Click Relaunch.
If you go to More- Help- About, you can see the version number, current is Version 72.0.3626.121

You actually won't see the "⋮ " icon, if you need to update. It'll instead be a white arrow in a red circle in the top right corner. See screenshot below.

Thanks for the heads up everyone.

Our automatically updates at work, but nice to know.

I love that the article itself doesn't say what the current secure version is. Thanks Yahoo!

Thanks. I saw JGray had posted as well, but nice to get it straight from the source.

What's happening on your end? Are you able to update manually?
Have you brought down your entire company yet?
Yes, I heard about this security issue and it is a serious one. The reason we are running on an older version of Chrome is that some of our applications do not support the newer versions. From strictly a security perspective I would like us to be on the latest version but with our applications this is not practical. Therefore, we have other security controls in place that help protect us in these situations. We have multiple security products on our workstations/laptops that help protect us. Also, we have additional network products in place to protect devices while on the <redacted> network.

I do recommend updating your personal home machines as soon as you can.

Thanks so much for reaching out. Let me know if you have any questions.

Be aware that this update fucks up the new tab/home page; instead of page thumbnails, you just get favicons with no URLs attached that can be pretty inscrutable on a lot of pages. Still worth it for the security reasons, but it's impressive how broken that is UI-wise.

After updating and relaunching 5-6 times, it still keeps suggesting a relaunch is needed:

Nearly up to date! Relaunch Google Chrome to finish updating.
Version 72.0.3626.119 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Addendum: Re-booting the PC 3 times finally got it to the 121 build. Go figure.

The new dark theme is pretty horrendous on my Mac. Went back to minimal white.

The dark screen was also causing my screen to continually blink. It was driving me nuts.

Went to check if I had latest Chrome update and it automatically downloaded a new version which is basuicallu=y unusable on my Win 8.1 system. I keeps blinking and the method I found on the web to supposedly cure it was already set.

I use both FF and Chrome and I would like to keep all the bookmarks I have in Chrome as I think my only option is to switch to uninstall Chrome and find another browser to use in its place. Suggestions on how to handle the problem?

TIA

Vivaldi, you can import everything, run all the same extensions, have more control of the look and feel and you won't be tracked by Google, and I run it under 8.1.

Not that fond of Vivaldi; however, I have some more information about the Chrome problem, which is completely mind-boggling to me.

I noticed that there appeared to be text momentarily flashing on an embedded video (news source), so I recorded it with my cellphone and found it to be from Outlook.com (which I only access with Firefox). Not only that but FF was closed. I'm also getting flickerings from my desktop background slideshow.
