the stinkin desert
Wasn’t there a block Gronkowski made early in his career where he pushed someone jawing at him like 10-15 yards past the line and continued all the way through the end zone? Not the sergio brown mugging. My memory might be failing me but I think it was a game against the Falcons when Gonzalez was still the TE. Anyway can’t find a highlight to match my faint memory.

So a thought occurred to me while listening to the Patriots Football Weekly guys say how much they thing Gronk doesn't come back:

A lot of us have thought throughout this that one of the many reasons he retired was a sticking point over salary between he and Bill. Is it that poorly conceived that one of these parties (probably the Pats) determine that there's simply too many reasons to compromise on it, if that is the case?

I guess what I'm saying is, if my choices are parting with an asset for Kyle Rudolph and/or going with some combo of what they have now and that, or just sucking it up and paying Gronk the $12m or whatever he's due for the year, it seems too likely from both parties that they'd prefer just go with the known quantity for one more year. Especially given how much the position has been addressed since his retirement.

Wait, really? I never thought that for a second, and I bet Belichick feels that Gronk is worth being the highest paid TE in the game. There are a lot of possible reasons for his retirement, but a salary dispute seems very unlikely to me. Obviously paying Gronk $12 mil would be preferable to any other option, but Gronk wants to take a break. I don't blame him.

edit: just did a quick re-read of the thread and didn't see any thoughts like that.

It's probable that the dipshits on 98.5 are fabricating a salary dispute between Gronk and BFB, but nobody has reported that in good faith afaik.

As my esteemed colleague says a few posts up, I've never thought this was over money.

If this was chiefly about money, he would have shot his way out of town, loyalty to Brady be damned.
