Here
I lean yes, but he’s been around a while and doesn’t have much of a history. He might get spared.

Suspended by whom? The league, or the Pats?
If you mean a league suspension, no I don't think he gets suspended. What he did was one of the dumbest things I have seen him do, but I don't think it warrants a suspension.

So yes, that all means that he will be suspended.

Very disappointed to see that from Gronk. Hope he's spared, but won't blame Goodell if he's suspended. I'll blame him for lots of other things, but not this.

Sortable list of fines / suspensions, for reference:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/fines-suspensions/suspensions/

To me personally, for a guy with no disciplinary history it's hard to see him getting suspended. There have been relatively few on-field incidents that led to suspensions this year, and generally they involve fighting. I think Trevathan's hit on Adams is the only one to happen in the flow of play. (Arguable whether this one did, but I assume Gronk will at least try to say he thought the play was live).

Suh didn’t get suspended for the Baltimore game, despite his past history and 2-3 incidents in that game. I doubt Gronk gets suspended, but its the Pats so anything is possible.

Looks worse on replay than it did live — he sees his teammate touch the ball carrier down, he begins his move after the carrier is touched down, and he makes contact with his head.

I won’t be surprised by either outcome, but I voted yes.

Practicing a post career WWE move? It was almost Burfict like, but Gronk's not a serial offender so I think he'll get a hefty fine - no suspension.

Wow, that was nasty -- just saw the replay -- but is it really worse than the Alonso hit on Flacco a few weeks ago?

With the strong game today (not including the play in question), Gronk has achieved his first incentive milestone - $1M bonus - on the basis of passing 800 total yards on the season. With 4 games left to play, any suspension would have a large financial impact on him as well as the team.

He is currently at 55 catches, 849 yards, 7 TDs.

$1M - 60 catches OR 800 yards OR 10 TDs - achieved
$3M - 70 catches OR 1000 yards OR 12 TDs
$5M - 80 catches OR 1200 yards OR 14 TDs.

It was a pretty dumb foul by Gronk, he certainly deserves a fine, but a suspension for that? Ridiculous. Amazed that it is even being seriously discussed.

I voted suspension.

He absolutely deserves a fine at the very least. He dove onto the defender while swinging his arm downward, with the play clearly over and the defender half out of bounds. My "feel" without really knowing, is that that is a play that deserves a suspension, all other things being equal. Gronk's lack of priors, and the uncalled infractions against him on the play, may mitigate that. Or it may not.

EDIT: Watching Burton and Fauria, the latter of whom thinks Gronk will get a fine and a suspension. But then he brings up the early game OPI called on Gronk, shows the end zone replay which makes it clear Gronk did absolutely nothing wrong, and my blood is boiling. Now I'm thinking he just owes Tre'davious White a six-pack, and should be allowed to grab his crotch in front of Gene Steratore. Twice.

I don't see that as a suspendable action for a player with no significant history. Give him a fine. Although a suspension, well timed, means one less game to get injured.

He was likely pissed because he thought he was interfered with on the play and earlier in the day he was called for OPI on a crappy call.

Yes penalty, yes fine, no suspension.

I voted no. Last week 2 players had a fist fight and they got 1 game. This should be nothing.

I would accept a 4 game suspension until the playoffs started too.

The cradle of the game.
At the very least, a fine/suspension gives the team a chance to formally highlight the gross OPI/DPI inequities in plays involving #87.

Talib and Crabtree each got 2 games and it was a mutual altercation.
Gronk jumps on a prone player laying out of bounds who had already been touched down. Certainly suspension worthy if you take off the Pats colored glasses.
Had a BUF player done that to Gronk or any Pats player we would be screaming suspension.

If he gets 1 game I think he accepts it unless they are guaranteed to make a ruling before the Miami game. Otherwise he could miss the Pitt game if it stands.

Certainly not helping his case, admitting you acted out of frustration is not a good idea.
Best to keep quiet at this point. Let the team deal with the bullshit calls, which were bullshit. Gronk is not doing himself any favors here.

Suspended or not, this absolutely needs to be addressed, i'ts been going on for way too long, one season after another. Bad as it was, not all that surprised Gronk finally snapped. Once agian, he was getting mugged before the interception

Yup. Kinda surprised BB didn’t coach him not to talk about the penalty.

I fully agree with the as well. He's playing with a separate set of rules. If he was 5'8" and 160lbs he'd get the call every time, but then he wouldn't be Gronk, he'd be Reggie Wayne.

I don't think he gets suspended. But given how terrified I am every time he gets hit and how important he is for the Steelers game I am going to lose zero seconds of sleep if he is suspended for Miami.

Edit: It was a dirty hit and I am not opposed to players being suspended a game for hits like that.

Another thing going against Gronk will be that he wasn't kicked out of the game.
The league in the past has been more lenient on players if they were already kicked out of the game like Green/Ramsey earlier this season.

Maybe, but the game was already late in the fourth quarter so not sure that matters here one way or another. If it happened in the First q and he was tossed (or not) I can see where that would be relevant

That's not a suspendible offense. It was a stupid and egregious play and deserved the penalty and subsequent fine that will come from the league. The faux outrage on this play is over the top.
You don't have a real problem with a guy lying on the ground out of bounds and already touched, then Gronk slams his shoulder into the back of his head? Isn't that the exact type of play the NFL is trying to take out due to concussions? Isn't that a lot worse than the fight last week or Suh stomping a guy in the chest?

Definitely an awful play by Gronk, but how aren't these refs being held accountable for the awful officiating?
I mean the fact the defender wasn't flagged (prior to the cheap shot by Gronk) is amazing. It was textbook holding (twice) and a nice full arm extension shove at the end but no flag.
Maybe if the refs weren't so bad week in and week out players wouldn't get so frustrated.
Still, with all that said, Gronk was 100% in the wrong and deserves whatever he gets.
Max one game suspension probably appealed to zero.
Big fine.

Suspended for a game. If the NFL was reasonable any suspension would come asap so Gronk could sit next week against the Dolphins.

But what will probably happen is that he will get two games and by the time they deal with the appeal, he will have it reduced to one game - against the Steelers.

What he did was clearly out of frustration. But it was an an absolute cheap and dirty play.

And the opposite -- If he wasn't held as much as he is, he'd be a 6'7" Jerry Rice who is impossible to tackle.

One game.
But it will be a BS deal if it is the Pitt. game.
Why do people think it would be for the Pittsburgh game? That is not how suspensions due to on field actions work in the NFL. If Gronk gets a game, he is going to sit the Miami game, which is barely more meaningful than a preseason game at this point when it comes to playoff seeding.

I think he will be suspended. The opposing player was hurt, and perhaps concussed. It was not a football play. It was a total cheapshot after the play ended. And seriously, Roger Goodell has a raging hard on for the Pats.

I’ll be shocked if Gronk plays on Monday night.

And it’s understandable that he’d be frustrated. That OPI call on him was pure fantasy and he was fouled twice on the Brady pick. The decision on the first was worse but both were criminal, and the sum total of the preposterous way that Gronk is officiated make my earlier crack about Goodell slightly less of a reach.

Tre'Davious White confirmed in the concussion protocol.
A week off for Gronk won't be the worst thing in the world.

One game and he deserves it. It was a cheap shot and a dirty play. He did it out of deserved frustration, yes, but that doesn't mitigate that it was a cheap shot. Gronk knows better. I just hope it's served against Miami and not Pittsburgh.

Audio of the Post-game handshake — McDermott was really upset about the hit, and Belichick agreed it was “bullshit” and apologized.

“Bill Belichick apologizes to Sean McDermott for the Gronk hit that gave Tre' White a concussion. Called it bull%^&*.“
