Forest and Luton with a great game right now…Luton passed Forest into 4th with their goal, but their captain and CB just got sent off. Game is getting testy

On the contrary, reports are that Burnley is in a ton of debt and they are going to be incredibly screwed if they go down, so this is a hail mary attempt to keep them up.
right, saw those stories....but at the time of ALK's entrance they were supposedly supposed give Dyche extra funds to spend, but it seems as though they were still operating on the same shoestring budget

If Cornet stayed healthy all season, he would have made a bigger difference...he showed glimpses of dynamism when he did play

maybe Dave Fishwick needs to buy more ad spaces and seats

This is all of ALK’s making. Burnley was the 5th most profitable club in the EPL from 2014-2020, banking roughly £129m. They even broke even during the first pandemic year. But ALK bought the club with loans taken against club and Turf Moor. It was basically the Glazer leveraged purchase model, but for a club with a much thinner margin for error.

I feel for Burnley fans. They deserve much better. But screw ALK.

I got up early just to watch Christian Romero pass the ball back to his goalkeeper, apparently.

Brighton with a false nine were even blunter than Brighton generally, while Spurs are just asleep.

Hopefully subs can do something interesting.

That was torture. Credit to Brighton, first win over Spurs since 1981.

astride the divide
First win in London? They've beaten Spurs twice at the Amex the last few years I believe. Nonetheless a nice turn of form for the guests, wins over Arsenal and now these guys after a lousy run of games.

I am low key impressed with Graham Potter for this one honestly. Spurs were awful, but he came out to just nullify them and not play too much and be chippy and waste time in a way I did not realize was part of his toolkit. I'd fully bought the "sing kumbaya and play nice triangles and win the moral XG victory" narrative about him but this was a different thing altogether.

The Brighton press was excellent. They knew exactly what their triggers were, which players they wanted to press, which angles they needed to take away, and they did it without allowing space for direct balls in behind. Spurs were completely unable to sustain possession.

Elanga with the picture perfect one man press against 2 Norwich defenders, wins the ball, and makes the easy square pass for Ronaldo tap in. That’s brilliant work from Elanga.

Jesus getting booked for that but nothing for Fernandinho on Diaz is... par for the course.

I hope Cancelo's face isn't permanently mangled from that vicious attack

Half shoe size bigger and Pukki is offside. Pogba at defensive mid is not effective.

It’s probably a yellow because there wasn’t much in the end but I wouldn’t have been here complaining if it had been given as a red it’s way too aggressive a tackle

Yeah that's fair

Wish Salah had a better right foot - try as he might, Zinchenko will never be Phil Jones

Steffan better not see a blade of grass in Qatar if Turner is healthy. Ederson isn’t a great keeper but City win this if he plays.

I would bet a lot that he's our #1 in Qatar if healthy. He's Gregg's preferred keeper, and I'm not sure there is anything between now and November that can really change that.

I'm less certain of this, it's been a while since they were both simultaneously healthy to have a truly good bead on the thinking here.

If it was a summer cup, I'd probably agree. But with this one coming a few months into next season, we have no idea where Steffen may be playing, or if he will be getting any game time.
