It should almost be game time but that's the way things have to be. I only made it to 1 Patriot's Day game. In 1983, The Sox lost to the Brewers 14-0.

FWIW, MLB Network is running Red Sox related content today. Game 4 of the 2004 WS is on right now. Later (11am), they'll be showing the first game back at home after the bombing in 2013 (seven years ago today) followed by the 2013 WS film followed by Fenway's 100th anniversary game from 2012 (eight years ago today).

That was my first game at Fenway, actually. Didn't even get to see a Milwaukee home run, let alone anything at all from the hometown team. I think Sutton threw for the Brew Crew. I can say I say Yaz in person, though, so there's that.

Who(m?)ever says Fenway is a tiny park never sat halfway up the RF stands. And yes it was a miserable game.

Would have been arriving around 10:30 to my namesake for the annual eggs and IPA breakfast, before heading into the game. One of my favorite days of the year. Ah well, the heart will grow that much fonder for next year.

We will recreate the magic at home. Sausage grinders for breakfast, day drinking, a Sox replay, then an Osso Buco dinner just like a trip to the north end. The tradition lives.

Been watching the MLB network film on the 2004 Series. Man game 1 was a shitshow.
It was. I think it was the equivalent of a hangover game for both teams. The Sox had two off days before the series began, the Cards had one. They were both coming off of highly emotional LCS. The Cards seemed to be in better shape despite less off-days because their rotation was still lined up and rested (Woody Williams was their Game 1 starter each round), while the Sox were putting Wakefield out there because who else did they have? The series was essentially over once the Sox won that game. Having Schilling, Pedro and Lowe fully rested for Games 2 through 4 put pressure on the Cards to strike first and they couldn't do it. As good a team as they had, they couldn't stop the freight train once it got rolling.

This would have been my 21st in a row. Weird to think that a toddler at the first one could be legally going to a bar at 9am this year. If such a thing were possible.

I've been going since '87 missing two games for work, one rainout and one strike, one of the most consistent things in my life. And why so late to the bar?

As a kid raised in metro NY, we would often go to Boston to celebrate Easter with my Dad's side of the family, and in 1976, we convinced him to stay in MA extra two days so we could go to the game. We got SRO tix and I remember clearly that at one point, Fergie Jenkins threw over to first like 5 times in a row, trying to catch the immortal speedster Butch Wynegar leaning. The crowd got really impatient, but eventually, the game finished and me and my cousins got out to the Marathon route to watch the runners. That year was brutally hot, but looking at the BR boxscore, game-time temperature was listed at 65 degrees so I had to do a little research to square with my memory:

https://www.boston.com/weather/boston-marathon/2016/04/14/40-years-ago-marathon-monday-temps-were-remarkable
"Patriots’ Day that year was hot and humid, with a Bermuda-type high pressure system off the coast, which pumped summer heat northward for several days. The day before was Easter Sunday, and Logan Airport reached a record 94 degrees."
I got to go a few other times, and it was always a treat to leave the game and see the runners - in one case, a friend of my Dad's who we managed to pick out of the stream going past.

I was at that game and left early(I hardly ever leave a baseball game) but they were getting destroyed so my friend and I went to watch the end of the Marathon. I believe Greg Myer won it. At Charlesgate street and Comm. Ave. is where I usually watch it. My friend had never been to Fenway before so we planned that weekend. Saturday to Monday. He lived in the Philly area with me. He was from North Jersey originally. My family and I moved to Philly in 71 from Mass. We also went in 84(game rained out, so we watched the Marathon) and we went to 85 to game. Tom Seaver Pitched for White Sox. We also made it to the game the Saturday afternoon before. Oil Can won. I didn't go again until 88 with a friend from RI that had just moved from Pa. I went to games in 89, 92, 93, 96 and 98. Went to Marathon in 02, then Sox game in 2011 and 2012. Then in 2016 my two friends nephew ran in the Marathon( it started earlier then) and we watched him at my usual Charlesgate spot and saw his nephew running and we cheered him on and filmed it and watched part of sox game in that bar in Fenway. They don't close the door in center field on Marathon day, lol. Great memories. My first marathon I watched was in the rain outside the Community Theatre in Wellesley(Where I lived at the time) and then in 71 on Kingsbury street and Route 16(I think) with some friends from junior high. My older sister (I was 13) told me that Erich Segal who wrote Love Story ran in the Marathon. She told me if I saw him to yell "Do it for Jenny, lol" I did see him and I shouted that and he gave me a funny/dirty look. Oh well. Always a great day. Thanks for bringing that great day up. We usually but not always left the game to watch the end of the Marathon back when the race started at 12 Noon. In 93 while trying to listen to Sox game on radio, my friends wife instead heard about the Waco disaster and informed us she was listening on WBZ about that news. Sad memory as well as 2013 of course. I didn't go that year, but people were texting me while I was at work if I went to the game or had watched the Marathon and I didn't know what they were talking about at first. Oh forgot to mention in 83 my friend and I went to the Celtics-Sixers game on the day before the Marathon. Celtics won yay!

Yeah, me and a couple of friends left early as well. How bad the game going was one reason but being able to check out the marathon was another.

The last Patriots' Day game I attended was Rosie Ruiz's moment of infamy forty years ago today, a warm sunny day. There was also an eighth inning comeback to beat the White Sox 9-8 in that forgetful season.

I remember these 2 guys talked to these 2 police officers in their car and one said to the cops........"Officers we'd like to report a crime.......the Red Sox are getting murdered". They laughed. I found the Boston Police to be very helpful particularly with directions wether we should take the subway or walk. We stayed for 3 years(83-85 at the Copley Square Hotel, not to be confused with the Copley Plaza.)Too expensive. It wasn't the cheapest in the area but it was reasonable for then and not sold out. On Sunday we got tickets through my Dad's co worker who went to college with Marc Iavaroni of the Sixers to Celtics-Sixers game. We still rooted for my Celtics and they won. In 1988 my friend from RI and I left the Blue Jays -Red Sox game which went to extra innings to watch the end of the Marathon. After the finish the game was still going on@the ticket people let us back in to watch the end of the game. Red Sox won! I don't they would let you back in today once you left.

And then there was 1982.

Forecasters recall historic blizzard that blasted New England on April 6, 1982

I was kind of new in town, and having grown up in Florida, I didn’t realize how crazy it was to get hit so hard so late. IIRC, I walked from my apartment near the Pru to MIT (for some reason the bus didn’t come) and was surprised that my class that morning was canceled. Dad had lived in Ohio for a few years before I was born and said that “up north,” you weren’t out of the woods for snow until Memorial Day.

Oh yes I remember that storm. Baseball in the east was postponed a few days. In Philly area we only? got 4 inches or so but it wasn't like a spring storm it felt like February, so cold. I think by the time the Marathon came around it was in the low 70's by then. Too warm for runners and I think Alberto Salazar won by like 2 or 3 seconds when Dick Beardsley came on at the end. I don't think he had water since like Framingham, and he had to go the hospital for dehydration. They repeated it I think on Nightline or another show.
