For 15 years give or take, I had one jersey. You can guess who. Multiples, but always 12.

Last year, I needed a new jersey. So I bet on the kid. A week later they signed Newton and the rest was history.

Now, I need another new jersey. I am soliciting suggestions from the SoSH collective.

My requirements

1- I want a good player. Doesn't have the be a great player, but a legit player.
2- I want a player that will be around and a key factor for at least the next couple years.
3- Preferably a decent human too.

Hightower would be the guy if he was a few years younger. I'm considering one of the TEs. I can't bring myself to jump on Jones yet after what happened last year.

Not sure I understand your point re: a player who wasn’t here.

Anyways, I’d go Kyle Dugger. I think he’s gonna be a star, and he will be here at least three more years.

I’d avoid RB on principle because their shelf life is so short.

I wasted $75 on a Stidham jersey sight unseen.

I plan on waiting until the next QB starts a game or two before buying a jersey moving forward.

The hipster choice is Onwenu. I’m in your boat now. I’m partial to offensive line. Andrews is a classic. Onwenu, Andrews, and Mason are one of the best interior combos in the league.

Dugger. He’s going to be one of their best playmakers, seems like a decent kid, and with the jersey switch you’ll never forget my February 3rd birthday.

Single digit numbers on defensive players are awesome. That leaves you with Bentley and Judon (edit - forgot Mills). Maybe just go with Dugger, especially now that he’s no longer wearing the worst number in sports (unless you’re Andy Moog).

If I had to choose a jersey right now, I'd probably go the retired player route (Coates? Rodney? Tedy?). I want to see another year of guys like Dugger, Uche, etc.

I do love the Onwenu idea though.

The problem in general is that so many of these guys won't get another contract with the Pats, but it's hard to know who.

I may wait till next year for Dugger.

I'm considering getting 2 and going with Van Noy (who I've always liked as an underrated playr) and Henry (who will be around for a few years)

Picking a current player jersey has always been tough. Back in the day I had a Bruschi for a little while, and then settled on Troy Brown. My family got me gift jerseys a couple times... Butler after 49, and White after 51, and I wore them occasionally. I also really liked the "color rush" jerseys when they first came out, and got an Edelman one of those that first year. So I've got a bunch hanging in my closet now, but now I pretty much alternate between a red and a blue 80 - Brown jersey on game days. I honestly don't know who on the current roster I'd choose for a new one at this point... I feel like I'd have buyers remorse when they were inevitably released/traded away. So I'm more than fine with wearing one of my favorite all-time Pats, despite at least once a year having some drunken idiot at a game ask me who it is... or tell me to "stop living in the past, man!"

I always said that I was going to wait for Brady to retire before getting the obligatory12 jersey, and that plan is still on indefinite hold.

Edit: I think I just remembered the root cause of my souring on buying current player jerseys... It was the Curtis Martin jersey I got for the '97 playoffs. Forgot about that one, since it's no longer in my closet, having been discarded in one of the many moves between then and now.

Harry --- if enough people buy his jersey, maybe he'll play up to his potential.

Together, we can make it happen!

Not meeting the criteria of the original post, but if I were given a choice of the shirt from any player on the current roster, I think I go with James White. Much like a Troy Brown or a Bruschi jersey, a White shirt would always have value.

I’ve got some good news for you. That thing will be a collectors item since there can only be a few in circulation.

I wouldn’t wear a jersey as part of every day attire. I don’t like the feel of jersey fabric on my skin. Sportsball is also usually not appreciated by most of my friends anyway. Who made these adults don’t wear jerseys rules? If you want to wear a jersey wear a jersey. Seems kind of arbitrary. I am in the camp of you get one life so you do you boo. You want that jersey? Get it and wear it in good health. I love KFP and E5 but here gentlemen we agree to disagree.

Slater. He probably won't be around for three more years, but he'll likely retire as a Patriot and I see nothing wrong with wearing a jersey of a retired (should be) HOFer.

I said Onwenu was the hipsters choice for new guys (or maybe Bailey) but Slater is your all-time hipster jersey.
Damn right he should be. 5 first-team all pros. 9 pro bowls. The HOF needs a special teams wing. HOF needs a lot of reforms but that is one of them.

I dont wear jerseys in my day to day life.

If I am having buddies over to the mancave for a football Sunday, I may wear the jersey. If I am going to a Patriots game in Foxboro, I'll wear the jersey. I am not wearing it to a dentist appointment or to dinner ...

I’ve only owned two jerseys: Harrison and Gronk. If the Pats get another wrecking ball type player, I’d buy that one. But I’m not sure that guy is on the current roster.

As for the idea that adults shouldn’t wear jerseys, are we now instituting unwritten rules for fandom? Fuck all that. Wear what you want.

One of my favorite things to do at Pats games is looking for the fans wearing the most obscure jerseys. Katzenmoyer gets a lot of run, there are many others as well, but a Stidham would be up there, not sure I've ever seen one. I've only bought a couple of jerseys over the years but I always err on the side of established guys, or even retired guys. In addition to the obligatory Brady I have Bruschi, Rodney and Gronk. If I were buying one today I'd probably go with Hightower.

Agreed get one with your name on the back, as you will never be traded, and you can control if the name gets disgraced.

I saw a Marion Butts jersey in 2019, which was impressive, but the all time obscurest I've ever come across was Dietrich Jells in 2001. I would have through it was actually Dietrich Jells wearing his uniform, but the guy was white.

For reference, Dietrich Jells had 2 catches for 14 yards across the 96-97 seasons.

I saw a Miles Killebrew Lions jersey one time ... about 15 minutes from Gillette.

I ended up going Van Noy. I wish he was younger, but I've long been a fan. Hopefully get 2 seasons. Kid 1 went White, Kid 2 went Jonnu

I was at a restaurant in middle Georgia back in early February 2020. There was a guy there sporting a Pats Stidham jersey. I assume he bought it not because he was a Pats fan (there are very few down there) but because of Stiddy’s college roots.

One question would be who is the all time worst Pats jersey. I'll remove Hernandez contention because of the serial killing, but off the top of my head I'm thinking about Heart Lee Dykes, Canty, Dowling, "Generic 2nd Round DB", C. Jackson, C. Jackson, C. "can you believe his career was the same as his twin brothers'" Singleton, Adrian "actually a good coach" klemm, Ray "actually a good front office guy" agnew, Pat Harlow's back, Ken "Number one draft pick in a draft with Marcus Allen Jim MacMahon, Mike Munchak, Chip Banks, and Art Schlicter?" Sims and a couple of others.

On second thought Hernandez's jersey doesn't like all _that_ bad. And those cuts to the middle of the field for an extra 8 yards after he caught a little gainer and you thought he was going out of bounds....

This is the correct answer. The correct answer to any jersey question is always a special teamer, and when you have Matthew Fucking Slater, he's the answer to every question.

I still have a Larry Whigham jersey laying around. Because everyone should have a Larry Whigham jersey laying around.

I have 2 Pats jerseys---and old Bledsoe and a Brady. I also have a Larry Fitzgerald jersey that I won in a fantasy league (winner would pick league MVP and get a jersey of that player).

I haven't worn them except maybe a Buffalo Wild Wings once or twice when we'd camp out for 7 hours and watch the games.
