They cannot possibly empathize with other people or understand their own privilege. Because of that, all they see are "thugs" complaining and they should just shut up and pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

The lack of empathy and understanding is off the charts. Some people are blind. And angry.

Yep yeah I can't even respond to my group texts with a bunch of my hockey friends from college. It's definitely enlightening to see who hasn't grown up from college.

These are people who videotaped themselves burning clothes and apparel they’d already bought to protest Kaepernick’s Nike deal. These folks watched Se7en and didn’t get the scene with the woman with the cut face and the pill bottle.

Good for them, but unfortunately delaying the playoffs by a day or two really isn't going to do anything. Maybe if they canceled all 4 major sports seasons altogether, but I just cannot imagine this having any real impact. Worth a shot I suppose.

This is all anyone is talking about, so you can take “really isn’t going to do anything” and throw that out the window.
Moving forward it puts pressure on owners, networks and other partners because the threat of an extended boycott or straight up cancellation hangs in the air. While they play, the players will continue to use their platform to call for change and in the background, I imagine there will be mounting pressure on legislators to act.
Remember: protesting works, sometimes at glacial speed, but progress can be seen throughout history with the benefit of hindsight. Sure, sometimes it’s two steps forward and one step back, but as a society we continue to inch forward.

Anyone who says they're done with the league after this is welcome to go away forever. If NASCAR could tell the "fans" who wanted to wave the Confederate Flag to go pound sand, then the NHL can do the same to those so offended that the players care and are taking action on social issues.

Dale Tallon, GM of Florida up to a couple of weeks ago, adding his insight into the Alliance.

Tallon commented that people are saying his comments were made after Matt Dumba's speech. Dumba is a a Black player who has been outspoken about racial injustice and a founder of the Hockey Diversity Alliance.

When asked if he said anything racially-charged, he said, "I don't recall it. I don't remember it. I don't ever use the word. They said I said something after Dumba's speech and I don't remember even seeing Dumba's speech."

The former Panthers' GM added, "I didn't know Dumba was Black; I have only ever seen him as a hockey player. I did not know he was of color. That's all I can say. I need to find out what is going on."

He maintained the confusion saying, "This is not me. I don't understand this, I don't ever do these kinds of things. I don't know what happened. I am kind of puzzled by all of this ... I am not sure what this is all about right now."

It's amazing how enlightening this has been for me in seeing how many of my friends are low key awful people. I know teammates on my eSports team that are thinking of not playing NHL21 because the EA NHL team delayed their media blitz and the demo date since it was scheduled for this week.

Actual quotes I've received in group chats:

"Can't believe hockey got postponed... like seriously what does not playing accomplish? Oh no an armed criminal was shot by the police... time to shut the country down"

"Guess I'll cancel my preorder today out of respect"

So frustrating these were people I've know decades who either I never noticed were so horrible (maybe I've grown?) or they're being more outward?
